- Northern 323 (13/05/21). I travelled from Manchester Piccadilly to Stoke-on-Trent on a Northern class 323. Let's get the Hairy Hand Jive going!

Some of the class 465s and 466s on Southeastern (the ones that still have GEC traction motors) sound similar to the 323s
I came across this series of videos by accident and found them all very entertaining and informative about the joys and perils of rail travel in the UK. Professionally presented in a lively format and all enjoyable journeys. Incidentally, this hairy train was heading to my home town and I have used it many times in the past travelling up to Manchester.
When I used to use 323s, some 20+ years ago, always at least one 3-pin power socket per carriage, typically under seats, had to know where to look. Was for the cleaners. The windows are a plus because as long as the things aren't stopped/broken down, you can always get decent ventilation even in Summer heat. Unlike the awful Cambrian coast diesels. Never noticed hairyness, just down to the most recent upholstery type or absence of de-fluffing perhaps ? And it's the noises that win most people over with these Hunslet, Yorkshire tech trains. I use these trains a lot. Wouldn't say they are my favourite but I'm glad they had that revamp where they changed the seats and livery. Great video

Did you know it is so rare to see a 323223 at the moment? I have been looking everywhere for one but I have never seen one! I met this other train fan and he told me that if you see a 323223 your meant very lucky! I have not seen a class 323223 on the tracks before! 😢

i love the 323 they are my 2nd favorite train i have been on it twice now in 2019/2018 and i love the acceleration and deceleration.

Absolutely LOVED this one!!! Wow!!! I tell you what that's strange.... I saw 323223 and 323232 just today, 232 at Cheadle Hulme and 223 past my house! All I can say is wow!! Absolutely terrific! Another tremendous journey and video!! Loved this journey so much! I was like 3232-- what!!? When it stopped haha! That was some hairy train.... jeeeeeeez........ my word! PEOPLES FUR?!!? 😂😂 People don't have fur!! I'm dying!! Boo hoo one by one chairs, bit lonely! Loved it!! Excellent in every shape or form! What more could you want!? A perfect example of why I recommend your excellent channel! Job well done and top class as well! Great work from you! The mirror in the toilets was funny... You can just admire yourself! I love the class 323s used to travel on them frequently between Wolverhampton and Birmingham before they were replaced by class 350s. Love their acceleration and deceleration noises. I noticed you had a card ticket, I get paper ones now from my ticket office. Great review of the Northern class 323s.
350s are great too! Ah yeah I print mine from the machine, easier to collect on card as well 😄
Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria are such amazing stations. Never been to Manchester but some point I will go visit there. And other places I haven’t visited in the North of England. Keep up the good work GlovesTrains.

Many thanks for another enjoyable Video Georgia, the class 323s are amongst my most favourite electric units because of their quick acceleration from rest, it will be interesting to see when the other units arrive in the North West from the West Midlands later this year and whether these units will be put into service still bearing WMT livery albeit debranded.

To be fair you get the hairy ones because when I went on a 323 on last Friday it wasn't that hairy. Mine seemed to go really fast though which was a surprise. I enjoyed my 323 Northern experience. Great video G.

@@GLovesTrains it's 1st Class, but w/out the included meals(get priority in the shop though) 1.5 class
I was there on Saturday evening recording the trains passing through and luckily got to see the Pridealino come through.
Whilst worked with DB Schenker I recall learning this route for the rail head treatment train. I recall being told that several prominent football players had homes in the Cheadle Hulme to Stoke area.

On the 323s from Lichfield I honestly can't say I spent enough time in the toilets to admire my bum 🤣🤣 people in the Midlands tend to miss there aim so it stinks in there!

I Travel on these Hairy Buggers a lot between Stoke -Manchester and to my surprise had USB Ports on then some worked some did not and got a advance for £3.50

I did sStockport to Poynton on a 323 the other week and back again and was hairy aswell as the information boards telling the wrong time and being a station out this is Poynton when it was actually Bramhall and all stations however that said it was actually early by 8 minutes

Another great video and I love it when you do familiar routes :) You need to get a Rode GO wireless mic system G ...it will work perfectly with your camera and although your sound is good the Rode system would be much more clear...and you don't need to shout over background noise :)

The 323s are still gonna be on Northern Rail; the 323s from WMR will be moved to Northern Rail.
Ah ha - it all makes sense now. You've mentioned hairy trains before and I been trying to work out what made them girly (because I keep hearing her-y not hairy) and I'd been wondering what features made them so effeminate. But no, just a weird moquette that attracts hairs.

Well this was a hair raising video. But that is the problem with peak times on Northern, in the morning train leaves Stoke-on-Trent empty but at Congleton, it fills up and on the return from Manchester Piccadilly, it empties at Congleton and it doesn't help that CrossCountry Trains have withdrawn the Congleton stop during the pandemic, I travelled on on that line myself during peak times and can get busy! Lovely video on the Class 323s they are wonderful EMUs ind... :p

i really want a ride on a 323 seriously i want a ride on a 323 the more ive seen 323s in thease vlogs and simons vlogs the more i want a ride shame they dont run in the preston area routes as there routes are 331s and 319s but maby in the future but my only ride on a 323 was way back in 2007 from Manchester picc to Stockport anyway brilliant vlog as always

The 323s may run on some Preston area routes once the 17 sets from WMT arrive, since the 17 WMT 323s are to replace the 319s.
There was some driver route learning to Preston using 323s a few months ago, so yeah there is a good chance 323s will be seen on some Preston routes in the future.
@@lordparma7556 cheers for that when i do my trip up north in 2 months time ive got a plan to ride a 323 im thinking when i knock out Warrington Crewe and Runcorn instead of getting the avanti service back to warrington from crewe my plan is to try and ride a 323 from crewe to Manchester than i can have a proper experience on one than pick up any train from Manchester to Warrington than back to preston on avanti

Toilets much better than LNER azumas whereby it seems some toilets don't dispense water and I commit the ultimate sin of using soap first! So it comes out in a sort of sticky residue and yeah.... Not nice
