Priyanka is on a mission to find out why the British loved Darjeeling so much. After its discovery, the British quickly established Darjeeling as a hill station and sanatorium for British soldiers. They also developed it into a centre for tea cultivation, realizing that the region's climate was ideal for growing tea. The colonial infrastructure left behind is still adored for the architectural marvel that they are.
In this episode of "The Modern Traveller," discover why more than 8 lakh people from around the world visit this picturesque town every year. During Priyanka’s visit, she went to stay at one of the oldest homestays in Darjeeling.

History of Darjiling is Tibet 😂. Actually is Tibetans used “རྡོ་རྗེ་གླིང་།-Dorje Ling-दोर्जे लिंग” Not Darjiling. Dorje Ling is the Named of Very Old Tibetans Monastery. Invaded by British 🇬🇧 India. So English use डर्जि लिंग Darjiling. NJP Siliguri is the Historic Indo-Tibetans Border. Jai ✊ Hind, Jai Bharat ✊. Sonam Gauri Gudalur
You're right. Dorje Ling, as it was called has a rich history predating the British, including Sikkimese, Tibetan and Nepali occupation.
