4:15 I love Van Buren in this scene. Her reaction to what the mother said before opening the blinds is perfect. She is just SO done with this woman and her Innocent Act.
Also I grew up with Aspergers and ADHD I was lucky to have been diagnosed when I was 3 years old. You take a kid with issues like that to Occupational Therapy (O.T.) which is usually only 100+ dollars for visits, not to a religious nut who tried to recondition her through viscous beatings. Losing 100s of dollars is much better than losing a child, especially this way.

So they performed an exorcism on Kira because she had ADHD? 🤬that makes me so angry that a parent in her right mind would do that to her own child

    • @hydrangeas_lover

The key words are, in her right mind. These people were not in their right or any minds. Their was a solution, though it would have taken some time, effort, and support from the "family" and professionals. Instead, they turned to religion as a "last resort." The prior decision was to chain her up like a dog as if that would help her in any way. I think bringing the daughter to a place of worship is altruistic and maybe a part of the overall treatment but instead, they turned their child over to a very sick, warped and delusional woman of the cloth who thought the answer to her severe behavioral problems was an exorcism bc the devil was making her act this way. Instead, they tied her up with a 4 point restraint and beat the living daylights out of her bc they had to "beat the devil out of her." What's horrifying is this incident has occurred in real, which makes it even more depraved. I can't even fathom this type of other worldly abuse. 😢😢🤬🤬

The episode opens in a hospital emergency room where a teenage girl, Keira Grayson, is found beaten to death. From security footage, Green and Briscoe identify Bill Crawford, who brought Keira to hospital. They also find that the day before Keira's death, her mother had been in contact with Crawford. Mrs. Grayson has an alibi, since she was at a Catholic church at the time Keira died. The detectives discover that through the church, Mrs. Grayson and Crawford both know a former nun named Sister Rosa Halasy. The detectives find evidence of Keira having been restrained and beaten in Sister Rosa's apartment, so Sister Rosa is arrested.
Crawford confesses that Keira died during an exorcism intended to cure her severe behavioral problems. Because of Mrs. Grayson's obviously fragile mental state, which would earn a jury's sympathy, McCoy allows her a plea deal. Crawford also gets lesser charges, and Sister Rosa is the sole defendant to murder. But in court, Sister Rosa testifies that she hears messages from St Michael, who directs her to do God's will. She says that during the exorcism, St Michael told her to send Mrs. Grayson away and then crush Keira's chest with a crucifix to drive the devil out. McCoy fears losing the case if he tries to challenge Sister Rosa's religious convictions.
When cross-examined by McCoy, Sister Rosa says that God will hold her responsible for not being able to defeat Satan and save Keira; but that no crime was committed. She denies wanting to hurt Keira and says that she understands what this looks like to outsiders. McCoy convinces the jury that, even if Sister Rosa really is a messenger of God, she is still human and must abide by the same laws and moral principles as anyone else. They convict, and while Carmichael is satisfied that justice has been served, McCoy still feels conflicted.
