What do you think of practice journals and streaming your practice sessions? Have you tried it?
A most enlightening discussion. Thanks for being open and sharing. Pop usps are clever.
for me, uploading a video of me playing a piece keeps me motivated always ,i don't share my practice, but i only shoot myself performing the piece i was practicing for days, letting others watch you play or hear your music and critique or say their opinions, it keeps you developing yourself more and more everyday. this is a good video, you keep me motivated also , keep up the good work💖💖
1) I am glad that I can practice to my heart's content in the COVID19 lock-down, w/o pressure, or having to schedule my practicing at odd hours.
2) I feel uncomfortable with the idea of posting practice videos. However, if I consider how immensely popular others' practice videos are, maybe it's only *me*, lol.
3) HOWEVER I post recordings of myself playing works of lesser known composers, and lesser known works of mainstream composers on Instagram since the lock-down started.
It's nothing professional, and I do that as a hobby, but---- I got 150+ followers. That is 2-8 times more people than I ever got into one of my "real" recitals back in the pre-social media days [1980s and 1990s]!!
Please note that I am not a pianist. I am a retired concert organist who decided to start playing piano after a hiatus of 15 years. I am pipe organ builder, currently out of work.
livestreaming my practice on discord really boosted my overall volume of practice to the point where i have a hard time being focused during practice when not on discord. There is just this sense of "oops, someone might come into my channel and listen" that keeps me on my toes and makes me practice properly without messing around too much.
Also, what i find invaluable is the ability to share and talk about practice approaches with other like-minded people. Maybe even having a practice buddy, sharing successes or struggles amongst each other. I know a pretty cool guy that does that with me
