      Also with the thunderstorm moving southwestward the order of events went in the opposite order in a tornadic event. And there was no hook echo with the Jarrell tornado. And there should of been a hook echo.

    In my mind, this is the most horrifying tornado I've ever heard of! This thing was so brutal and vicious, grinding up everything in its path. Nowhere to hide. It looked so crazy as a rope, before it got huge! You can see the immense power of it from the very beginning!

    Even when it was a thin rope, you could see a central skinny tornado within the rope, it looked violent for a thin rope, them becoming the bringer of death.

    The crazy part about that storm was everyone who survived weren't in the direct path of the tornado. The houses that had debris left behind (like LaDonna's) were hit by F4 winds. They were outside the act actually "footprint" of the tornado. Nothing inside survived. That's insane!

    I was about 7 or 8 years old much further south in Austin. My folks thought about going to the store, and they soon thought better of it. When the storms hit Jarrell and the few hit the Austin area we were at home. The store we were initially going to go to, had the roof demolished. My dad who worked the graveyard shift at the P.O. went back home to check on us.

    Me and my sister seen this tornado when it first started forming coming towards us on I25. We were close to stillhouse lake going to our cousins house. This tornado terrified me and it’s the reason I’m terrified of storms. The air was soo thick this day I remember telling my sister before we got in the car that something bad was coming.

    1:00 Thanks for that snippet of footage I've never seen. KCENN has some of the highest quality and some of the more insane angles of it during its peak power. The horizontal vorticies and the wind rowing was downright unbelievable. Rip to all the victims of this historically tragic event.

    • @carlmay9532
      @carlmay9532 Před rokem +3

      Agreed. The shot at about 1:03 shows just how violent that hung was. The upward velocity in that thing was incredible. It looked like it was boiling to me. I remember Dr Ted Fujita talking about the 1974 Sayler Park F5 on the outskirts of Cincinnati and how insane the upward movement in that particular tornado was in the 160-200mph range. Looking at Jarrell’s storm reminds me of that one and then some. I think some/most people think tornadoes winds blow in a straight line. Of course we know now that they do blow out, suck in, suck up, blow down etc….all these crazy dynamics happening at one time. I just can’t imagine what kind of power this thing had. Forward winds in the range of 250mph +. The violently rising upward winds probably well above 150 mph as well. And moving so slowly that it could literally be sitting over your home for a full minute or more. Being subjected to that type of force is unfathomable.

    Tornado winds are not necessarily higher the bigger it is, in some cases it is actually higher when smaller like a a spinning ice skater when she brings in her arms. 3/4 of a mile is fairly large but not in comparison to others such as El Reno in 2013. Nobody will ever know how fast the winds were. 260+ is just a best guess especially since the tornado was moving so slow. In fact one scientist actually believes the winds may have been F3 strength. But nevertheless, the damage was so extreme it is a baseline for all other tornadoes. Nobody who lived in the strongest part of the tornado survived. Mrs. Peterson's family survived because they probably lived a couple of hundred yards from the center. I visted the Jarrell Memorial a couple of weeks ago. There were trailer houses about 200 yards from the Igo's lot where the memorial is located. I hope there is a storm shelter near.
