For all those worried for your kids with HT(short for hypotonia)don’t worry, I was diagnosed with HT at a young age and physical therapy and more helped me get through it! Now even tho I still have it and always will, my leg and more on my left side have gotten much more strengthened with the help I need❤

My son has just been diagnosed with hypotonia. He’s two. He wears lace up ankle boots the NHS provided. He was unable to support his head until he was a little over six months. I thought it maybe was because I had him at 46. Thankfully it wasn’t. He will see a geneticist next week. He’s the best wee thing. I know he’ll be ok.

If your child hasn’t reached any milestones then it’s better to have them checked by your local physician. Try not to worry though as they all progress at different stages.
I’ve a sneaking suspicion that my son is also on the autistic spectrum, as his dad is.

Hi @Grey Line , I'm just following up on your story because my son has been diagnosed with hypotonia at age 4 months and 3 weeks because he has significant head lag but he is able to hold his head up in a sitting position, not fully stable but its much better than before, I saw a post where you said your son walked at 18 months, that gives me some hope because I'm worried sick and I am also happy that your son is progressing

Posted a while ago as my two year old son was diagnosed with hypotonia. I was to have a geneticist test carried out on him however he’s been referred to a larger hospital for that, so will still have another wait. The physician O.T and speech therapist spent two hours with him and he was also diagnosed with Global developmental delay. I’ve a sneaking suspicion he’ll also be diagnosed with autism in a year or so. It’s right through his dads side of the family. But his dad managed Ok in life so I’m sure our son will do just fine with the correct support. Where have all these labels come from?? My son just has a few extra special qualities! He’s wonderful.

@@Giovaft Watch out for abnormalities in bone development, one thing I've had as I get older is as my bones continue to grow and fuse through late teens and early 20s, the constant incorrect load-bearing / biomechanics means my leg bones have slowly warped more curved (& some other aread affected like my rib cartilage and my jaw too, no underbite as a kid/teens, now underbite in my late 20s) and now walking uphill and downhill is excruciating because the centre of gravity on my leg bones now is down the outer surface of the bone instead of straight down the middle & they bend slightly where they're meant to be solid, a bit above the ankles... waiting to find out if I need leg braces. Really gradual thing. My gut problems got really bad in my early 20s due to weak peristalsis thanks to hypotonia too. It is also a symptom of some conditions that go underrecognised for years such as Ehlers Danlos and also Fragile X syndrome but it's very hard to get tested nowadays, NHS won't do it due to cuts, so idk precisely which condition the hypotonia is a symptom of for me still. Also worried about what my cardiovascular health must be like getting older, when I saw the physio she said my muscles are so soft it's as if I've never done a single day of effective exercise in my life.

Children with down syndrome are often delayed in milestones such as sitting, crawling, and pulling to stand. You may need to visit a pediatric doctor and/or physical therapist for an evaluation. Our bracing solutions can start to help only when a child starts to pull to stand-when he can put weight on his feet and legs.

My Daughter had an IEP for her first two years of school, and now she is in the 4th grade and no IEP. She may have to have orthotics again, but she welcomes them. Tiredness is the main complaint. Otherwise your kiddo will be superb. Keep him/her active. Stamina is key! Feel free to msg me if you have any questions. Good luck flower :)
