Everybody gangsta 'till your Canadian neighbor says "Ja" instead of "Eh"
Eh doesn't mean yes. It means "Right?". We don't go around just saying EH randomly lol

As a Winnipegger myself, I'm stoked that you covered this event. It's one of my favorite obscure events in my city, and a large amount of people who live here are completely unaware of it.
Were people scared into buying bonds or were they more like "If I buy a bond will you stop making a racket and go away?"
That is one confusing location for a lost time traveller.

I have two questions: 1) As a Canadian, why the hell was this never wedged into our boring af history lessons? This is amazing!
2) What would have happened if someone started shooting at them?
Blanks. Blood squibs, actors who probably had amputations to simulate a loss of limb. Use ur imagination bub. Quit being a simp.
Since the army was the one making the simulation, I's assume that in the case where a farmer or some citizen would start shooting or even showing up with a rifle of some kind, they would be quite prepared in order to contain that individual.
I do not know if the firearm registry existed back then, but it's not hard to imagine that they prepared quite extensively.
The whole army was in on the setup
@@greenmoonmoon I believe handgun registry existed but definitely not for rifles. IIRC it was in the early 30s handguns required being registered.
@@HitchHiker4Freedom That's actually quite interesting.
Since civilian owned riffles might have posed a threat I'm pretty sure it was accounted for and the military didn't put personnel or civilians in dangerous situations. With that much people involved, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a secret to everybody... except perhaps the poor soul who barricaded himself in the Town hall
think of that poor soul lunging out of that office, firing his pistol at those actors, while yelling die nazi, die!
Me: oh, I wonder what Canadian city

Unfortunately, I don't have a reference handy. However, the Nazis did sneak ashore at a remote location on the East coast and setup an automated weather station. Technically, that would be an invasion; however, it didn't involve any Canadians and wasn't found until many years after the war.
You seen that I think on reallifelore
They also rescued an escaped POW from a camp in Bowmanville with a U-Boat. Can’t recall the name of the operation.
@@theenzoferrari458 No, I saw it as part of a live presentation a couple years ago by an avid historian with an interest in U-boats.
Technically yes, it is an invasion of territory from a certain aspect.
However, from a military aspect, No.
An invasion from a military aspect involves arriving 'in force' with enough personnel and equipment to secure a base from which you can continue to push further into enemy territory.
We did a video on that! It was called Kurt
So, basically, it was the best hidden camera show prank before they had invented hidden camera shows... :P

@@tncorgi92 Yup. I would certainly be tempted to do some long range target practice!
@@tncorgi92 most of us don't own guns, except for hunting rifles!
@@josee-annejoly6896 that isnt really an accurate statement, it wasnt until 1968 that classes of firearm like restricted and prohibited were created, before that very little gun control existed in canada and firearm ownership would have been not uncommon in the 1940s, I've had trouble finding numbers from that time possibly owing to a lack of data collected or maintained as at that time guns didnt even need to have serial numbers nor their owners licenses and during the war the already limited registry was paused. It wasnt until 1978 that fully automatic firearms became prohibited and in the same year the use of a gun to protect ones property was made illegal, In the modern day well over 2 million canadians are licensed to own firearms which if my napkin math is correct is 5+percent and this with extensive paperwork, fees, mandatory courses and long waits standing in the way. There are currently over 7 million guns in canada these firearms existing in some form in around 26% of households. Most of the numbers above are also lower estimates with some estimates closer to 12 million guns in 31% of households.

Winnipeg represent! Complacent in WW2 and now complacent in COVID-19. We’re a traditional people
winnipeg is down right woke compared to stonerbach
how is Winnipeg complacent in covid?
It is our government that’s complacent not the people. Also covid is BS. Did you hear a politician talk about how much the covid creator China will have to pay? To you hear them talking about giving the entire world a vaccine for the flu. Also heard it will have a dye in it to see under light if you have been vaccinated. That doesn’t sound right. So if my body can fight covid why do I need a vaccine? Don’t I have antibodies that fight viruses? Oh you want to put some crap in the people of the world. Also Italy reported this week that they have found that covid was in their country by September 2019. High reported flu and colds but not DEATH.
@@cannednolan8194 your aware several of our hospitals have now become hot spots for the virus, right?
Too many people have been acting like Covid is nothing. We have over 6,700 active cases right now. A few months ago, before "restart Manitoba" you remember how many we had? 0. We went from 0 to 6,700 in only a few months, partly because people denying it and denying it's risks.
We are in code Red. We SHOULD be in full lockdown, but for some reason, they are keeping schools and daycares open.
@@krvys7226 There is FIFTY THOUSAND flu deaths per year in Canada. But, for some straaaaange reason, hardly any reported this year. My neighbour went to the hospital for pneumonia, and was diagnosed with covid, then corrected to pneumonia, and miraculously cured. He didn't have covid, but of course that was what was reported to the gov and media. He's tried to tell the story, but gets shut down, and his posts get removed. Something is VERY shady about it all.
That would not go over well in the U.S.
If you think "Red Dawn" was an exaggeration, it's actually an underestimation.
As a Manitoban I knew about this from military history. Outside of metro Winnipeg area, they would have had a hard time pulling this off. Hand guns only became licence able in 1924 in Canada & there are millions of long guns & shotguns. Preplanned cooperation & theater is what it was.

On a more realistic note, my grandfather told me a story, backed up by a grainy black and white photo, of a German U Boat surfacing in Sydney Harbour, Nova Scotia, around the same time. The German Submarine was promptly escorted by the Canadian Navy to International waters without fanfare. My grandfather was born in 1904 and it was a cool story for someone born in 1969.

Hello from Winnipeg!!
I'm from Winnipeg, Manitoba! Born much later but never knew this!
I thought this was going to be about when the nazis actually did come and fight in Canada. The Battle of the St. Lawrence was from May-October 1942, September 1943, and again in October-November 1944. During this time, German U-boats sank 23 merchant ships and four Canadian warships, killing 340 Canadians. Also the nazis dropped off German spies, and attempted pick up of escaping prisoners of war. And on the other side of the country there was a shelling of a lighthouse at Estevan Point in British Columbia.
I came here thinking you were going to talk about the germen sub that manage to sneak into Canada via the St- Lawrence.
er... yes... pretended.
we used to hold a festival called the "do what you feel like" festival, until it was renamed by German settlers in the 1940s to the "do as we say" festival.
