      The real Colombian middle class make between $4 to $7 million a month and live very confortably. But a person who wants to live a life of exclusivity will never be satisfied with less than what only 2% of labor force make.

    Colombia's very low wages might be attributed in part to the significant corporate duty to pay for numerous employee benefits. Companies in Colombia are required to give their employees with a variety of benefits, including pension payments, health insurance, and paid time off. These commitments can have a considerable impact on a company's overall labor expenditures and, as a result, the wages it can afford to pay its employees.

    Definitely the sky is the limit for a great salary. But realistically only 2% of the labor force in Colombia make $10 million pesos or more. The average national income is about $4.5 million pesos a month and those people who make that much are considered upper class.
    The middle class in Mexico would be considered upper class in Colombia. So If a person wants to live a luxury life style then he/she needs to make at least $10 million pesos to afford living in estrato 6, drive a suv, own a 400 square meter apartment, wear brand name clothes, and travel abroad twice a year.

    It is hard to think about what is a good salary. A low salary for people with very few responsibilities in life is way more than a higher salary with tons of responsibilities. A minimum wage in Colombia for people living with their parents, single, not children is way more money than a person paying tons of bills with two children. Therefore, salaries or the idea of a "good salary" is relative to debt and responsibilities.

  • @jaimechang3794
    @jaimechang3794 Před rokem +2

    Like everywhere else, a good salary varies based on location and people's expectations. Your survey made in the coffee region will not be applicable in the big cities like Cali, Medellin or Bogota, much less in a tourist city like Cartagena or Santa Marta. It is likely that viewers will be more interested to know what's a good salary in a main city rather than a small town. From my own experience, it's a fact that the minimum salary of one million pesos is not enough to cover the basic needs of the Colombian population and just barely will pay the rent of an apartment in Medellin. Add to it utilities, food, health insurance, transportation and recreation and you're talking a minimum of 3 million pesos for one person. In a household, add another 1.5 million per each family member and that's 6 to 7.5 million a month. You also need to consider what Colombians call neighborhood "estratos" which go from 1 (poorest) to 6 (wealthiest), where rent and utilities are less or more expensive. So, there is huge variation of what a good salary will be, considering all the factors involved. That said, for people making the minimum salary their only option to survive is to bundle together and share general costs of living. At this time exchange rate is about 4,500 COP = 1 Dollar.

      If I may,.. yes you can. I lived very comfortably in Medellin for 10 months in 2022 for about $1,250 a month. Food and transportation is very affordable, I stayed in Airbnb's so housing was about 45% of my budget but a long term lease and investment in your own furnishing can cut that expense by a third and you could have a much nicer place. After touring Southeast Asia for the last 9 months I am returning there to live long term in Sept.

    La Karencita: Recently (late August) the US State Department issued a warning about crime in Mexico. I know there are often problems in some places, especially near US border. But this warning listed many States of Mexico, including Querétaro. (Must have been 20 to 24 states!) This surprised me, since most vloggers I've watched say Querétaro is pretty safe.

      Queretaro is currently at an “Exercise increased caution” level according to the US Department of State. Compared to other places in Mexico, I think you’re good as long as you don’t take unnecessary risks.

    You have to specify,, what is "living well"... and how much to earn to be able to do it. Easy examples: how many people are going to depend on the SALARY... is not the same is it is only 1 person,, or it is 2, 3 or 4 persons. Also,, how big is the house or apartment you wan to live. Are you talking only about "surviving" or been able to ENJOY life. Do you want to live in the city , or you can live in the country side?

  • @britishcomedybroncorothschild

    I liked it... Very Good. I worked there. You and your husband should do it. Experience it. It's different than not working there. They will pay your husband 4 times more than you. Really. Think about it. Even Soo you will have fun. Be street smart.

    The basic salaries are deceiving because a lot of Colombians are hard workers and hustlers. Sure, if a girl is making 50mil pesos per day at a store, she's making more in other ways. Same for men. If they have a basic/stable job, they are also generating income on the side
