The Deaths of Brenda Lee Rawls and Lauren Smith Fields: 2 Detectives Now Suspended

- Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim released a video late Sunday announcing the suspensions of two officers in connection to their roles investigating the deaths of college student Lauren Smith-Fields and 53-year-old Brenda Lee Rawls.
The two women died on the same day and in the same police precinct. The Bridgeport mayor said the two detectives are facing discipline for their “lack of sensitivity to the public and their failure to follow police procedure in the handling of these two matters."
Ganim also announced that he would work with the police chief to make changes to the police department's policies and practices when it comes to notifying family members of a death after Smith-Fields' family said they weren't even contacted on the day she died.
The police department needs to be investigated by an outside organization.

seems like a bad batch of drugs in the area and the prostitutes paid the price... the police should check local hospitals for other overdoses from prostitutes in that area

this is why the US should make drugs legal and start making 100% pharm grade drugs for people so they don't get a bad batch.
You can’t stop drug cartels, the war on drugs doesn’t work. Look at how Portugal handled drugs. Legalize all drugs, pharm grade for everyone. Each person decides if they want to do drugs or not.

It may turn out to be a serial murderer. Let's not forget cops have done this in some cities in the past. Cops has also been serial rapists. Rare yes. But some have been convicted. I know of cases. Maybe, the FBI will investigate these cases soon. At the very least these these cops/detectives and the Chief needs to be terminated due to their complete incompetency. 😢😢

The way the family was treated was nothing short of appalling and sickening. Something isn't right here....I am so heartbroken for the families of these 2 women. No telling how many more there are. Something stinks in that precinct.
I think we all knew how this was going to go when the primary and possibly only suspect wasn't even mentioned as one. The blatant disrespect they had from the start by stating he did her a favor by calling 911. May they both rest peacefully 🤎

The only reason the mayor did anything about it is because of all the media attention Lauren's death is getting. I've seen interviews with the lawyer and there's been a lot of corruption in that police department for some time.

Lauren's family found the bloody sheets and glasses and everything still in the apartment days after she died (was killed). They didn't even take evidence. Definitely shady. Rest in Peace ladies. I hope they find the truth.
Had I been in a Yt woman's home and tried to say I carried her to bed and "slept" next to her on a first date while finding drugs in her system consistent with date rape.... I would've been in jail the same day they found the body.

"Suspended" isn't fired. Any other average Joe/Jane not doing their job would be fired period. And I see nothing excusing the WM who she met online. No real investigation on him? Who gave her the drugs? I still don't think they're taking these BW cases seriously! They went fat and beyond for Gabby and her family. And the killer was right under their noses the whole time. This is exactly what I suspected, date rape drug interaction with drinking and whatever else caused her to have an overdose and she died. That guy seen she passed out and instead of calling an ambulance he takes her to her room and “lays in the bed with her” yeah right he took advantage of an unconscious women then fell asleep and woke up to realize she wasn’t breathing… had he called the police at night she probably would have had a chance at survival at the hospital but since he couldn’t wait to sleep with her, she died. SMH. I honestly don’t think he intentionally killed her But he was very reckless he was more concerned with his own disgusting needs than her well-being and because of that she died… smh, poor girl… may she RIP.

Well the guy who the internet seems to think is guilty is the one who called 9/11 after he noticed she wasn't breathing. With calling the cops instead of not running and assuming he has no prior criminal charges or history with drugs it seems like the police made a logical decision to not pursue him.

So he drugged Lauren, a girl that he met on an app where women have to message first, and then after raping her.... spent the night, and then when he noticed she was unconscious and not breathing.... he called the cops on himself. It just doesn't add up.
He was probably questioned on the site and was polite with the police/emt and didn't say anything that raised red flags so they saw no reason to pursue him.

Sometimes that backfires. When a person is found, the defendant's lawyer may claim they got together to compare stories so they could make up stuff about him(or her). I've heard about stuff getting thrown out of court because of that happening.

The sad reality is that, because the crime scenes were not concealed, any evidence at the scenes are tainted. No jury is going to find men guilty when in Lauren’s case, the family found evidence seventeen days after her death and in Brenda’s case the person the lady was with gave her family her clothes and shoes three days after her death. The evidence is useless in a court of law. Shame on those detectives and any officers involved.

Lauren and Brenda deserve justice and it starts with the suspension of those two crooked officers! Matthew LaFountain needs to be questioned for the death of Lauren.
Do you honestly think he wasn't questioned? What if it turns out that her brother brought her the drugs when he stopped by that night? They were outside for 30 minutes while her date was there. She told her date that her brother was stopping by, but she didn't tell her brother she had a date there. Her date called 911 and performed cpr.
@@haystakfan1 that was the next morning after she had been dead, and it makes sense to call into question if he was questioned or not since they also left the crime scene with no evidence taken, no calls to immediate family after the verified identification, used condom, liquor, drugs all still in plain sight on the crime scene as well as the sheets still bloodied etc. the detectives clearly didn’t do their full jobs or else they would’ve had a clear cut and extensive conclusion that ruled out foul play etc. and their wouldn’t have been a need to reopen the investigations and or not tell the immediate family “hey, this is what happened, how it happened, etc.”

She died of an accidental overdose as stated in the autopsy report. How do you know she wasn't a recreational drug user. Two of the drugs in her system were prescriptions. When a young black girl invites a much older man to her house she isn't looking for love. Lauren was not the Miss Goodie Two Shoes her mom and the attorney are saying she is. Her brother is a druggie with a rap sheet and the attorney is also under investigation after his arrest.
Hold the detectives accountable. I think suspension is a slap on the wrist. I think they should be relieved of their duties as detectives indefinitely! Leave the detective work to the real detectives. That is not a position to play with. They obviously don't believe in justice for ALL therefore they are not qualified to remain in that position! Praying both families get answers and justice.

Also LSF has had an active investigation open since the night of her death … this isn’t law and order where it all wraps up in an hour. Point blank I think her brother is a possible suspect and that is the reason for limited info from the cops about an ONGOING investigation. The dea only shows up to track the drug user up stream to the supply that killed them.

If the officers are suspended while still being paid, i failed to see the sanction behind the suspension.
