    @paulsjunkcars Well, i didnt notice any metal that had been shaved, scraped or grooved where the bearing sits. it was shiney and clean. Also didnt really notice any spine damage. Whenever, the wieght of the van in on that side it will pop, but fine when flat and straight. I was pretty zoned in on the seal and bearing so maybe i just overlooked it. I mean these vans dont really have to many componets that operate the rear.

    One suggestion: After you slide the axles out, slide the pin back into the diff so those spider gears dont fall out on ya

  • @scheufele44
    @scheufele44 Před 13 lety

    @paulsjunkcars No, it showed up a few days after, im 100% positive its coming from the same side. Its only when im turning right. More so at slower speeds.

  • @paulsjunkcars
    @paulsjunkcars  Před 13 lety

    @scheufele44 what i would do is pull the wheel and drum back off and grab a hold of the axel and pull it up, down,left,right,back and fourth to see if there could be any play any where.

  • @paulsjunkcars
    @paulsjunkcars  Před 13 lety

    @scheufele44 i would not think it would be the axel unless the popping sound was there before you did this work.

    great vid man ...I just want to be sure on a couple of things #1 Im guessing there would be a stop or lip inside the axle housing that the bearings and seals must be seated on and #2 should you put any grease on the axle or bearings before you put the axle back in thanks again for posting sir

    This is the best video I have seen (believe me I watched a bunch of bunk vid's to get here) I like your straightforward approach, I had intended to replace the whole thing housing and all (didn't work out) so I have the whole original out and on the bench, so replacing axle bearings, seals and the spider gears, should be pretty easy, everything else seems tight. You saved Me a lot of aggravation, thank you from the deep south deer woods !

    Thanks for the info/video. I was always told if that gear falls out its a major pain to get back in etc etc. You made it look simple.

  • @paulsjunkcars
    @paulsjunkcars  Před 13 lety

    @knottyrich you might want to check the fliuds in your master cylinder and the fliud in you rear end to see if either one is low on fliud. you may want to get some brake cleaner and clean the whole area where the leak is taking place. then check back soon after driving the vehicle and see if you can tell where the leak is coming from. thanks for watching.

  • @paulsjunkcars
    @paulsjunkcars  Před 13 lety

    @XMSTARSHIP2 yes there is a spot on the axel that the bearing and seal goes on, look at the video at minute 2 thru 2:23, the worn area is where the bearing and seal seats. yeah it would be a good idea to put some rear end oil on the axel and bearing. great questions, thanks for watching.

    try and change axle oil first when the fluid gets old it will cause this sound to happen to you good luck i had the same problem

  • @knottyrich
    @knottyrich Před 13 lety

    how do i know if its the axle shaft seal and bearing..or the brake cylinder leaking? i think its the bearings/seal cause its making a howling squeaking sound. do i have to replace both? can i just do one side at a time. is that a good idea? thanks man. great vid

  • @paulsjunkcars
    @paulsjunkcars  Před 11 lety

    I borrowed the puller, the seal drivers were between 20 and 30 dollars (cant remember exactly) at my local auto parts store. I do know some auto parts stores do tool rental. Even if you use the tool one time would it save you enough money by doing it your self rather then paying some one else. Thanks for watching.

    Thanks Bro. Im sure you saved me alot of $. Those 2 gears are a ass pain when you try to reinstall the pin but it all worked out for me thatks again.

  • @scheufele44
    @scheufele44 Před 13 lety

    Hello again. I would like to ask your opinion. I only replaced my bearing and seal and reinstalled the same axel. now, I hear a poping, knocking sound when i turn right. Is this a sign of a worn axel shaft. It all started with gear oil leaking thru the seal so i figuerd that would be it but maybe it got to the point where the axel got worn. Is this a good assumption?

  • @paulsjunkcars
    @paulsjunkcars  Před 13 lety

    @scheufele44 did you take a look at the wear area on the axels? how did the wear areas look?

    Not sure what the going labor rate/price of parts is in your area. You may want to call around to a few repair shops and they can get you a quote. Good luck.
