That is definitely helpful to know! 😊
Yay I'm happy to help. I got the question alot lately
Some people make fruit leathers as they call them
Dried fruit to use in different types of cooking
Every time I make leathers they don't make it past the counter lol. They are so yummy 😋
Funny, I remember when I first seen rice in salt shakers. Good info. Happy growing!
It's a game changer 😆
A very informative video thanks
Thanks 😊 I hope it really helps everyone
Great ideas!! My onion powder is always cakey.
Make onion salt it helps so much.
Nice.
thank you hows the garden going?
Thank you so much. I definitely want to try this. I do take things right off of the plant and cook with them but I’ve never dried them yet. Growing up, my family all had rice in their salt shakers because of humidity and no air conditioning. I love your jars and labels!
Yes you should try it. My celery salt is my favorite I put it on everything and it gave me something to do with all my celery leaves. And thank you I have been trying different labels I love the chalk one but I have to be careful not to wipe it off lol 😅
@@TeamBensonHomestead oh no! 😂 I didn’t know it was chalk. If I get those I might have to use white paint or maybe there is some kind of white marker. I know I’d end up wiping it off lol
@@gardenstatesowandsew there are chalk pens that go on wet. I don't think they wipe off.
@@juneramirez8580 thank you. Sounds perfect
Thanks for sharing!!!
Anytime 😊

Yay that's exciting. I'm glad.
My onion powder stuck together. Everything else went well. Thanks for the tips. I've been drying herbs, peppers, tomato skins, ginger and onions. Can't wait to try again
You can also lay the powder out and dry it for a bit longer. And omg tomato powder is a game changer. Mix tomatoe powder, mushroom powder, salt, and dried Basil. Soooo yummy
@@TeamBensonHomestead I love mushrooms. Never thought about a powder. I will try this recipe
I've got so much Basil!! Was thinking of making some Basil powder over the weekend!! Would go great in my spag bols!! But i got no dehydrator!! Might have use my little convection oven!! LOL!!
Remember a convection oven uses a fan that might just blow your product away. You can put it on a baking sheet in your regular oven on low and just keep an eye on it until it is completely dried. I have used that method when what I'm drying is too small and we'll go through the grading of my dehydrator
That sounds yummy, you can hang dry Basil upside-down too
@@TeamBensonHomestead Well...I do have a new lock up garage area with no car!! :-P!!
Well add me to your drying count! Dried both curly and Italian parsley, basil and red onion so far from YOUR tips!
Yay I love it!!!!
Add me to your count! If it’s not canned, it’s definitely dehydrated 🙂. Herbs top that list but I waste nothing. I may have missed your stevia video but I’d love to see how you preserve that because I have my first two plants this year. 😘
Yay so excited for you. And with my stevia I just dehydrate it. I dehydrate the stems too the whole plant is sweet
@@TeamBensonHomestead good to know, I was just picking 🍃, lol. Is it perennial? I have them in pots, should I collect seeds? 🤔. More research is needed. So you just dehydrate and powder? 😘
It is but it's suggested you only have it for 2 years, it makes less leaves. I have never had mine got to seed the AZ sun is rough. If you grow it in a big pot or in ground it can get huge. It's part of the sunflower family. When I dehydrate it I normal just leave it with the leaves crunched up. I only powered it with my strawberries. Which is super yummy. But I also use it in my tinctures and everyday teas.
What ratio of salt do you add to dehydrated vegetables like garlic, onion or celery? What would the lowest amount of salt by weight be? Like 1 part salt to 2, 3, 4 parts dehydrated onion powder? Just trying to figure the lowest amount of salt and it still work. I just made some homemade hot sauce and dehydrated some of it to powder for a tasty spicy seasoning. Thank you for any info.
Hey its really up to you on how much you want to use. On average mine is about 10% I use a good course salt to. You don't want to use table start.
@@TeamBensonHomestead thank you. I don't use regular table salt at all. Only sea salt, maldon salt or other quality salt.
