- Colindale, London.
Bright red London trolley bus is pushed past the camera by a bulldozer. It is the "end of the line" for this and other trolley buses as this is a breakers yard. Four men with breaking tools climb aboard the bus. Seats are thrown out of the windows, windows are smashed out, the interior is broken up.
M/S of pile of seats which have been taken out of the bus. These are kept for resale while the bus proper is wanted for scrap. Various shots of bodywork of buses being thrown around. Narrator describes how this is a depressing sight for those fond of the trolley bus as the chassis of a bus is wheeled past the camera.
Note: according to paperwork the company featured in George Cohen's. Alternative spelling for search purposes - trolleybuses.

Wonderful. The electrically driven trolleybus was clean, fast, and it doesn't matter where the power comes from. It could be a coal plant, hydro, or even solar, but so long as the trolleybus got the right volts it'd go. Now with diesel buses we are dependant upon an area of the world populated by loonies. Good move to get rid of the trolleybus. NOT !
Smash those trolley buses to pieces with sledgehammers.
Ok that's fine your such a legend 😂
from the river to the sea
So much better for the environment than the diesels that replaced them. Vivid acceleration too, I ended up on my back in the road, when I went to board a trolleybus that had stopped at lights. I grabbed the handrail as the lights changed, and the bus took off!
took off indeed, virtual rockets-uphill😀
No Diesel exhaust particulates to pollute the city air!
Their fast acceleration was a bit challenging for cyclists trying to pass!
With modern batteries and charging stations, there would be no need wires!
The Trolley Bus. Good Vehicle but did not last
How short sighted were people
been short sighted for 80years,got rid of trams instead of modernising gradually,-guess what-they’re back
@@edwinturner1149 It's great fun smashing up Trolley Buses though!
@@PreservationEnthusiast not as much fun as smashing diesel busses.
@@BrokenIET I would say similar fun. You can break the windows and slit the seats. Smash up the insides a bit and then go in the cab and smash all the controls with a club hammer. It's similar on both trolleys and diesels in my opinion.
I can't see where the enhanced fun of wrecking a diesel bus would come from.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing…
The British have always been so short sighted and seem to prefer destroying inferstructure to building it.
Breaking up is hard to do
Look like the bloke Having a smashing time and getting paid for it lol 0:46
Haha... very funny
@@florjanbrudar692 No we're not interested in the "Story of modern transport" and we're gonna bust these suckers up!
no safety glasses when breaking the windows, unbelivable eyes wernt important then
Or gloves for hand protection
*Why, cheer up, that's why you have two eyes old chap! You lose one you'll surely remember to squint with the other next time you are breaking glass. Cheerio, back to work!"
Shame
WHY TROLLEYBUSES
O no😥😢😭
😢
Plate glass.
Same thing will happen again to electric vehicles and replaced with petrol.
Same thing will happen again to electric vehicles and replaced with hydrogen-fuel vehicles.
1:00 These things were plugged in at all times while in operation. What were the batteries for?
I think maybe it's to keep the lights/air compressor on in case it becomes dewired?
Trolleybus >>> bus
I like busting up both!

Not really because we must recycle old machinery to make new stuff.
Trolley bus was the wrong solution with increasing number of cars and the proliferation of overhead wires. Things could get tangled or stuck.
However in the near future, electric vehicles will be the right solution again. Times always change.
@@PreservationEnthusiastold trolleybuses better
Films like this make ya cry
@@AndrewSutton-yr9ts No, I enjoy cutting apart and smashing up old equipment. Recycling is to be celebrated!
@@PreservationEnthusiast electric buses can run out of power, overhead electric wires are good. well implemented in Europe and Asia with heavy and light rail
