    Around 91-92, in Wampee SC I stopped to look at a 84 Crown Vic Interceptor. Not far away, surrounded by junk & maybe 5in of rotten pine straw. I uncovered a red 75 Ford Gran Torino. Magnum rims, beautiful optioned interior. With a 351W. H.O. Picture the Starsky & Hutch car w/o the stripe. Bought both & sold the Vic to fix the Torino. Kept it for a long time, but ended badly. Resulting in me selling it, but thats another story. Most fav't car I ever owned though!

    It speaks a lot of your characters that you took the time to take an interest in these gentlemen, to ask about their lives and background. Older people can become a bit "invisible" in society, but these men served their country, were once young and strong. I hope all the younger people will appreciate their stories and take an interest in the older people around them. The last 30 months have been especially hard/ isolating on the older people. Even a friendly hello and asking how they are can do a lot to make older people feel included and relevant. For me, this video was about community more than the car. Although the car is amazing.

    The candy apple red GT with the laser stripe in 1970 was my first car. Only difference was mine was the hardtop. I am now 70 and rue the day that I traded it for a Buick Century because my wife and I had a need for a family car instead of the complete beast that was my beloved Torino. I am now looking to find my second love with the wholehearted approval of my wife of nearly 50 years.

    Hello Bob, That’s a beautiful example of the Convertible GT. The restoration was magnificent… I can’t even imagine how much you paid for it with the restoration alone costing 180,000.. I know your not an expert from your intro monologue, but I wanted your opinion on this. I have a 71 convertible, with the same options and some more.. The difference is it’s an M code car (351 4V). I’ve owed it since 1986, it needs a restoration, but I have most of the parts to complete. NOS everything I could get, Door handles, Bumpers, Moulding, Marker lights, Blue Lazer stripes, the list goes on and on.. It’s a 4-speed with 3:25 posi, hidden headlights, A/C ribbon rack, console, power windows, delay wipers, new carpet, Am/Fm radio. The Motor has been rebuilt, but needs rear quarter work and paint. It hasn’t been on the road since 86, but it has been in a garage out of the weather.. Is it worth getting a decent paint job and completing the vehicle? I don’t know how rare it is ( I never did get the Marti report on it) But I would think there aren’t many. It’s the Medium Metallic Blue with White interior and top with aforementioned Blue to white Lazer stripes… There is no rust in floors or engine bay/shock towers… Just the rear lower quarter panels( I do have a set of quarters off a coupe that are good). Just wanted your opinion. Worth spending 20 grand on decent bodywork and paint (not a rotisserie job like yours) ? Thanks for any reply from you or your subscribers…

    • @andrewhigdon8346
      @andrewhigdon8346 Před rokem

      Yes. No question at all. It is without any doubt worth restoring at whatever budget you can handle. Power windows are surprisingly rare. That is pretty much a loaded car, save for the highest engine option, the Ram Air SCJ. But the Cleveland is still sought after. Restore it. Don’t let any naysayers talk you out of it. If you were to have it in good driving condition straight, with the only real body issue being the usual behind the wheel wells rust, AND you have the replacement parts, it’s easily worth over $20,000 as it is. Make it right, and it’ll be worth $50,000 and up, and as the clock ticks away, it will only be worth more, even after gas gets really expensive. By 2025 it’ll probably be worth $100k.

    What a great find ! I may be in the minority but i REALLY would have liked to have seen how well that car might have cleaned up as a SURVIVOR. If viable, i doubt the current "restored" value would exceed that of it's previous "original survivor" status.

    My car was very similar to this except for the convertible. I had the 429 CJ, shaker hood scoop, black metal louvers on the back window, laser beam stripe, C6 Automatic and hideaway headlights. I put Cragar SS wheels with Goodrich Radial TA tires on it. My car had the horizontal black trim on the trunk lid above the taillights, I noticed that this car doesn't have that feature.

    Beautiful! I wish I could have seen the Marti Report up close to see exactly how you was equipped. I've had to many 70 71 Torino's to count. Even a couple of 71 convertibles not 429 cars though. From the information I have there were only 30 71 429 convertibles built. 19 automatics and 11 4 spds. An im not saying it didn't happen but from the info I have all 30 of them were C codes (GT hood non ram air) that's why I wondered about the shaker hood, that would be a J code car. Don't get me wrong a shaker hood was always a cool option to add even if it didn't come with it. Either way it's definitely an awesome car!

      Your definitely right! It's a J code (shaker hood) car. I went into my files an it is obviously wrong. I know of a white C code convertible an I was just days away from buying a yellow C code convertible (I'm still regretting not buying it). But I've never seen or heard of a 71 J code convertible an I've been a member of the Fairlane Club of America for ever. With the FCA having national meets around the country I've never known of one to show up. My cousin had a 70 C code drag pac car, 1 of 3. But the drag pac was dropped for 71 on Torino' and Cyclone's. Also a friend of mine that I met through the FCA Bill Shenk was the original designer of the 70 71 Torino. Great story and great car!
