The reason the Government isn’t doing your taxes for you is because people like TurboTax and H&R Block have interest groups lobbying Congress to block that sort of legislation. Congressmen are literally refusing to vote for return-free filing because people that you pay to do your taxes are offering to fund their campaigns.

thats backwards. The tax code makes it so if you make more you pay more. its shit. I think we should all be taxed equally. not by amount, but by percentage. If we were all taxed by a finite percent, it would be fine. Like say 10 percent of someone who makes 50k a year would be less than 10 percent from someone making 1 mil a year. but it would be equal. Right now, if you make a million a year, your percentage goes up, but if you make 50k your percent is waayyyy less. and in some cases, you get paid. I make my own money. The government takes that and gives it to people who dont do anything. Taxes should (probably not be done at all but whatever) be done by a finite percent, making it equal. Not a finite amount of money, finite percent. Equality doesnt always mean exact same no matter the situation.

So glad the government actually tells us how much tax we owe in my country, they even fill out the form to us. They also give you plenty of time to correct any mistakes before they start to take action. So it’s almost to the point where you’d have to be intentional about avoiding taxes before they take action against you here.
Yeah in civilized countries it's like "okay we've seen how much you earn, here's how much we calculate you owe us. Are there any changes to your income or living situation we should know about before we send your tax bill?"

"okay it's tax season dude, pay a guy to take all those forms your work, bank, and financial advisor send to you instead of to us, have that guy send them to us, and we'll send you a tax bill. P sure we separated from the British over like a 1% tax ages ago. Now we sit at somewhere between 30 and 50% depending on bracket, not counting additional past income tax. Ridiculous.

The only thing I don't understand about taxes is why it ain't 100% automatic, I didn't study fucking taxes in school I have no idea what I can write off and what not.
The reason the IRS makes you do it on your own is those big tax companies paid money to make sure the IRS is not allowed to do it, so they can keep charging people to do it.
So their paid to not tell tax payers how much they owe so now the tax payers have to waste 13 precise hours filling out sheets just to figure out what the IRS already knows? Thats messed up. I bet that money tax payer companies pay the IRS is from tax payers.

@@jinnipers.3931 that depends on what you're in for. Serious violent offenses, yeah you'll be in a federal prison where rape and murder happens. For minor offenses, the inmates actually have it pretty damn cozy. In my local jail here in South Dakota, inmates on work release can buy game consoles and play video games in their cells. After talking with a few people that have been through the local jail, I've concluded I had it much worse during boot camp, than they ever had it incarcerated.

The idea behind that is the government doesn't know your deductibles, however most firms have accountants that report your salary, and your property and vehicles are already known. Meaning that you shouldn't have to figure it out as most people on income have no deductibles besides dependents, which normally are registered as a child or special needs adult in some database
