Pleistocene Fossils discovered deep in a cave

Found this by mistake, What a great cave. The canyon passages made this for me. SWEET! Yep! I'm a caver. Looked like NSS cavers to me. Experienced, trained, properly equipped. Great Job Folks! I hope to see more of this. I joined this channel after watching this post.

Did you say Rugosa coral as in extinct horn coral? Pretty cool to see that so high up on the cave wall. You guys certainly had an awesome adventure in this cave. Great knots and equipment that you used for this caving adventure! The cave walls look so smooth compared to the A'a lava tubes in the Dark Divide in between Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Adams. Our lava really rips your clothing and boots/shoes! It's just plain brutal on your gear. I guess you have to worry more about things rusting?
Yes, our rock is limestone, which is sedimentary. So we get lots of fossils and smooth walls, sometimes with lots of scalloping too.We have been caving for almost 20 years so have a lot of experience. We don't have to worry much about rusting as we use stainless steel equipment.

Wow those formations were INCREDIBLE! I loved the "brain," of the cave. 😄 I couldn't tell if there was water dripping into the center of the brain or if there was water bubbling up inside of it. Either way, super cool!
Thank you. It has water that is dripping down onto it from the ceiling above. That is what is causing it to form as the drops are moving around making it look like a brain!

Jackson County, Alabama. We've been caving for almost 20 years and have access to cave location data. The cave is 192 feet deep and is about 2,500 feet long.
I love your videos, gives me a chance to explore like I use to do. I know I could never crawl through those tight spaces. I'm to clostrophobic ..

No, no one was sick. It was the person on rope making a grunting sound, but I can see why it sounds like that (barfing, lol)

No, we did not leave the ropes. Cavers bring their own and rig each time.

They have been identified by a paleontologist to confirm.

Long time spelunker here, can I make a couple of suggestions?.
1) At 5:55 use a Rope Protection Cover.
2) At 7:24 the rigging setup looks extremely sketchy. Bolts would be more appropriate and safe.
Safety first, safety always.
Long time caver here as well, I've been caving for 20 years and my husband for 19. We are both very experienced and safe cavers. We are not "spelunkers" and this is not something "new" to us.
1) There is no rope pad needed here, that is soft, smooth rock, no rough edges that can harm the rope. We use PMI Pit Rope and it's made for stuff like this.
2) Thank you for your concern but this is acutally pretty darn safe, the drop is very short, which you cannot see all of in the video. There is no need to set bolts all over a cave when there is what is called "Natural Rigging" Natural rigging is always perfered over unnecessiarly putting bolts all in a cave.
3) SAFETY IS ALWAYS FIRST
@@tag_caver Thank you. I used "spelunking" because I am not from the US. Oversea's, we usually refer caving as spelunking or speleology. I get your points, I wasn't on location, quite difficult to assess the conditions from a video standpoint. I was merely concerned with safety protocols. As for the bolts, as a mountain climber, as you can can imagine, I am very fond of bolts.
@@Alexander-Kurtz all good. Yes, things are done quite differently here in the US than overseas. We use SRT, single rope technique and use natural rigging whenever possible. We also like to rig in waterfalls for fun here (LOL)!

This cave floods and takes in a lot of water so surface debris is washed in.

Believe me, I know how hard it is not to cuss--especially when you have an unexpected or painful moment! I too am working on that! Ha! But it is really easy to just mute the sound on those parts as your editing. Technology is amazing now.
I love how you explain the formations, creatures, water lines, bones, etc... and take the time to stop and film them. I really appreciate the time you spend educating us about each cool thing your discover during your cave explorations: This fact alone, makes your channel very unique and very cool to watch. I am too handicap to do caving now, but I get to cave right along side you--thanks to your channel! BTW: your photos are so artistic! You can sell those! Amazing! Stay safe!

People who attempt to dishonestly display a world to their children that doesn't exist don't get it and don't get their children. I didn't hear anyone "swearing" and so what if they did? Nothing I encountered fits the complainer's dishonest categorization of "foul" language. The only thing foul is someone thinking they can decide for others what is bad and what to censor, bleep, or change for everyone else. I have a much better idea for your self appointed word police. Download it and use an editing software and go thru it word by word listening closely for any words that your weirdness tells you are too horrible for you and YOU bleep them out to your hearts content! Why should anybody change or bleep for you? Your the one with the word fixation, most of us rational people know that words are just groups of letters to reference with and they cannot be "bad" or "good" they are only words and nothing else. That's what you should be telling your children instead of attempting to censor everything they hear. If you think censorship is "good" then censor it yourself but YOUR copy, not everybody else's.

There may have been some. Poison Ivy is found everywhere here.
That young lady had her foot ascended on when she walked to the site.
It wasn't her ascender, It's what we call a chicken loop. You can attach your pack to it to drag your pack through the cave when you are crawling. It's just a piece of webbing.

Our caves here are solutional, which means they are formed by water. We always check the weather before entering any caves. But yes, caves can be very dangerous if you are careless.

So you got wet and muddy to see some channels water dissolved along time ago.
How deep is the earths crust?
The Earth's crust is about 25 miles deep. No caves go that deep. Here in the TAG region the deepest cave is around 1,000 feet deep.
I was walking along one day and I saw a hole , and to my surprise I crawled into it . And boy was I shocked to see it opened up into a space large enough to park a train and 30 to 40 railcars along with it , with a river large and wide enough to float the entire thing on barges if there were any .so I started walking and walking for miles it seemed until I remembered batteries and which way to go to get out of there . Both of which I couldnt answer with any assurance that I was correct so I bent over and kissed the ground in front of me and prayed for directions . The Lord said this way not that way and ""Violia"" sunlight in the distance . I cried we laughed .
Absolutely amazes me how you cavers cant figure out exactly what you are crawling through. You are literally inside of an antediluvian tree of magnificent proportions.

Actually, it is not and is very safe based off statistics. I've been caving 20 years and rarely do you hear of an accident. Now go out and drive a car and that is a very dangerous activity!
