And the big reason as to why it was such a pain was because Knuckles and Tails kept on attacking the enemies that created the pseudo platforms, causing me to fall to my death countless times. I don't know if it was me doing something wrong, or if it was glitch, but regardless, I hated that part with a burning passion.

06 was actually better than Generations (which was way too absurd & cartoonish) in my opinion. Seriously having Sonic fight Perfect Chaos without his Superform was just dumb, then there was the crap with the Monster Truck & Giant Fish, its like Generations was just some parody game.
There was so much wrong with Generations, the gameplay, story, & even the concept itself weren't that good. At least 06 gave Shadow an epic story, Silver a cool enough story, & Sonic's story was ok. HOW in the world do you homing attack your way across those ghosts during the final part as Sonic? Every single time I try, I just immediately fall into the abyss when trying to attack the second ghost! Either it doesn't lock on and I just fly forward, or the ghosts disappears right as I try to attack it. I'm stuck on this level because of that one damn Sonic part. Someone PLEASE help me, I don't know what I'm doing wrong and the video makes it look like it's nothing!
Like they said, timing. You have to let yourself hang in the air for a sec while the ghost appears, than home in. If you go too fast the homing attack can spazz out of control, especially if it has nothing to target. Also make sure you're aiming the control stick at the next enemy! You gotta steer homing-attacks at least a little bit... that one was MY problem as a kid lmao.
In adventures game you have to wait a bit before you honing attack again and you also have to aim. I see a lot of people die in these games when trying to honing attack because they don't aim.
(From 4:42 to 6:02) I remember this moment as if the music turned up, and scrolled this moment. Only when you pass these three portals will it change to another.

I'm a big fan of the level's design. The rooms with the chandeiers have a fanciness fitting for a haunted house. I'm especially a fan of the room with the helmeted rbot, simply because of the stained glass window on the ceiling. Sonic's "Hang on!" automatically makes the second trolley ride more favorable than the first and the aspects that make the third trolley ride difficult acrually make it exciting.
I'm trying to get an A-rank here, but every SINGLE time I reach the Speed altar where Sonic must homing attack the pumpkin ghosts sequentially, Tails or Knuckles automatically attacks the next ghost in sequence, it disappears, and I die. I have not had this NOT happen a single time during my attempts, and it's 6+ minutes each attempt, and I've been trying this same level for two hours and it's been one of the most aggravating things I've ever played because I know that it's just gonna happen again next time. I've tried strategies to lure Tails and Knuckles off the platforms before I try the jumping, but going too close to the ledge is dangerous since Tails can actually push Sonic off believe it or not. Unlike Knuckles and Tails, Sonic doesn't have a way to throw his teammates away, so I really have no idea what to do to mitigate this unfortunate situation. I watched this video and it looks so effortless and it makes me mad. WHAT CAN I DO?

I think I had this game before I was even able to read. I remember seeing an enemy at the end of a hallway and I was too terrified to even get near it, so it was months before I completed this level.
My main reason for disliking Mystic Mansion is the fact that you are swarmed with enemies, making it easy to lose the Key for the Special Stage. I get it's supposed to be more difficult than the earlier stages, but it adds difficulty in one of the worst ways possible.

I think I found what that room was. Playing as Chaotix team, there is a room with sleeping robots and you need to walk slowly to grab the key. I am pretty sure it was the room I was teleported to. The strange thing is, this room is from the Hang Castle level, not Mystic Mansion LOL. The game was really confused.

It's all in the TIMING. You have to use the honing attack and before jumping to the next ghost you have to wait for it to materialize.
