I was born and raised in Russia until 20 years old and i live in Sweden. The song itself has such emotional lyrics and beautiful music plus Dianas performance is so amazing. So all this combo just made me cry. Those russian songs always touch my heart and soul so deeply.

Greetings from Scotland (again)! This is a very, very old Russian folk song which practically every Russian knows by heart! OK, the basic story is -
Diana tells of a young Cossack who has a strange dream on the night before a big battle, about being on his horse on the battlefield when suddenly an evil wind springs up from the East and spooks his horse, blowing his hat from his head in the process.
Confused by the dream, the young Cossack goes to see his Captain and relates his dream to him. The Captain says that it was not the wind which blew his hat off, but it was his head which was blown off! In other words, he dreamed of his own demise in the upcoming battle! Gruesome stuff!
There are many, different versions of this song with a variety of verses added or removed over the years.
Everyone in that room knew that she would win right after her first performance so instead of a competition they decided to celebrate music, everyone gave their best no jealousy, no hard feelings and this was by far the best singing show i ever watched in my life.
And i do not even speak Russian, i had to translate everything.
This is a 300 year old Cossack song .
The host clearly said "Diana AnkudÍnova" but English speakers still hear "Enkudinóva". 😄🦔🐳

"Oy, to ne vecher" (Ой, то не вечер) is the incipit of a Russian folk song, also known as "The Cossack's Parable" (Казачья Притча) or as "Stepan Razin's Dream" (Сон Степана Разина).
It was first published by composer Alexandra Zheleznova-Armfelt (1866-1933) in her collection Songs of the Ural Cossacks after her fieldwork in the Ural District during 1896-1897. The original title was (in pre-1917 orthography) Ой, не вечоръ, то-ли не вечоръ. (Сон Стеньки Разина.) The lyrics were reportedly recorded by "75-year-old Cossack F. S. Zh.".[1]
The original lyrics were in seven verses, with verse six making explicit that the dreamer is 17th-century rebel Stepan Razin. Razin has a dream, and his captain (esaul) interprets it as an omen of their defeat.

Could you please react too to The Crow ("Ворона") - Диана Анкудинова in "Rock hit" category. Many people think this is Diana's one of the best performance to date. She managed in 3 minutes to make a demonstration (without being ostentatious) of all her vocal possibilities and skills.
Diana was currently participating in a very ambitious NTV show "ShowMaskGoon" ("Шоумаскгоон") shot in Mosfilms studios with Virtual Reality sets. The sound was recorded live.
Why "ShowMaskGoon"?: The NTV channel produces 3 other singing competition shows (You are Super ", The Mask" and "SuperStar") the winners of these three shows participate in "ShowMaskGoon which is a kind of superfinal which premiered this year (" Mask "because of the second one)
The principle was as follows: there was 9 permanent participants who are both judges and competitors. Everyone had to perform in 9 predefined styles or categories, changing each time in each of the 9 parts of the show. It was very interesting because the candidates had to get out of their usual repertoire. To the 9 judges / candidates is added a different guest each week who also votes, because the artist who is on stage does not vote. They all have points from 2 to 9 to be distributed according to their assessment of the performance.

"Song of the late twentieth century"
"People are moved" (moving song)
"Soviet song"
"Pop hit"

It sounds like you stress the 4th syllable (the "no" in Ankudinova), but the Russians themselves stress the 3rd syllable (the "di"). Thx for the reaction :)

To a Cossack of the Steeppe their personal hat is basically their personal distinctive identity or a large part of it along with their personal horse. Thus if they lose their hat they are apt to lose their identity, their life. This is not so very different from the cowboys of old or even urban folk who could probably be recognised by their neighbours and kin sooner or further away by their hats rather than by their faces.
There are numerous Western movies where during or after the inevitable gunfight the scene shifts to a distinctive hat on the ground and one instinctively knows that it's owner is now no longer with the living.

It is sung on behalf of Cossack Stepan Razin ((1630-1671) was a Cossack leader who led a major uprising against the nobility and Tsar's bureaucracy in South Russia) who tells the bad dream foretelling trouble. He was executed in 1671. The fact of his decapitation is played out in a dream, where he loses his hat, the symbol of his head. The song is very dramatic as the narrator is foreseeing his upcoming death.
