The big go home for The Maze Runner and this trilogy has been awesome!!!! But that cliffhanger.... maybe we can get one more Maze Runner? Teresa did have a redemption arc, but still not happy with her decisions. Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) leads some escaped Gladers on their final and most dangerous mission yet. To save their friends, they must break into the legendary Last City, a WCKD-controlled labyrinth that may turn out to be the deadliest maze of all. Anyone who makes it out alive will get answers to the questions that the Gladers have been asking since they arrived in the maze.

Little Info about Newt, because the movies dont make it quite clear why he was so eager to safe minho instead of himself: Newt used to be a runner, when he realized there was no way out of the maze he tried to kill himself by jumping of one of the walls in the maze cause he did not want to life as a captive. He broke his leg instead and Minho found him and got him out of the maze before nightfall. Minho never told anyone what had really happened and Newt and him became close friends, Newt was thankfull that Minho had safed him and kept the secret of how he broke his leg. That is why he is so desperate to safe Minho instead of finding a way to safe himself.
Edit: oh and after that his leg never healed right, that is why he is limping slightly and wasnt a runner anymore by the time Thomas got there.

The reason this movie took a little longer was because in the "fast and furious" scene at the beginning, Dylan O'Brien (Thomas) was actually run over by the stunt car and was very lucky to make it out of that situation alive and to make a full recovery. The only semi romantic scene they share is right before she gets crushed by rubble. 😭 In the first movie she shows up like halfway or longer with no memory of him and by the end of the second one the longest time they speak is the same conversation when Teresa tells Thomas that she betrayed him and called W.C.K.D. 😂 Kiss was forced.

Newts death was sad, yet the letter was devastating. Repeating the names of the original kids in that maze, whose problems were trying to figure out the puzzle and drinking janky drinks…. Newt was wholesome and kind who kept them together in the sense of camaraderie. I wish his and Minhos friendship was shown more, you were right that this could be a tv show. And I’m glad Minho made it, that guy almost lost his life any plot turn.
I feel for Teresa, she was born to be a scientist, and she wouldn’t give up which is a flaw but also we see it pay off- the move where you sacrifice the few to save the many is never easy. I hated her but in the end I understood her.

Spoiler for those who still haven't read the books.
In the books Brenda was actually an immune and worked for Ava as her spy, though Teresa still betrayed her friends and Brenda was the one that changed sides to help the boys. The relationship between Thomas Teresa and Brenda was a lot more complicated, I guess you could say it was a love triangle but not really because Thomas was so conflicted with his feelings for Teresa yet at the same time he started to have feelings for Brenda after she helped him and being betrayed by Teresa. The ending of the book still confused me to this day, instead of falling down the top of a burning building, Teresa died from being crushed by collapsed walls while everyone else escaped and suddenly found themselves in the safe haven area (I might be wrong I don't really remember now). It was hard for me to imagine that ending so I personally preferred the movie ending. Kinda disappointed that they made Brenda less relevant in the movie other than her relationship with Jorge when in fact there's a lot more than how she met him, how she worked for Ava etc, I loved her character in the books.

The director also made that safe haven specially for the immune as a last ditch effort to ensure they at least survived. She even left a message about everything she did was to find a cure and when she failed she wanted to at least ensure the ones immune can survive. That's the thing I hated the most about the movie cause it showed she wasn't truly evil. She just wanted to save the rest of the world, but in the end she couldn't so she let the ones that should survive live.

Ava's note at the end of the book. He was talking about two young boys who were correctly placed. He said it was because of them. At first I thought the two were Thomas and Theresa, but Theresa had a lot of unnecessary actions, and somehow it wasn't convincing enough. Then I remembered that Brenda was going to tell Thomas about her affiliation with the Chancellor, but Thomas silenced her and didn't want to listen. So the most logical thing is that the two teenagers are Brenda and Thomas. Brenda was aware of the safe place and was probably taking orders for it all along.

    Answers to your questions:
I read the books and they are amazing. The things that don't work in the books they made them better in the movies (of course there are things that are better in the books, like the cranks). To answer Oak's question, there isn't more in the books after this finale. In the books they just find the safe heaven and that is it. And about his comment with the crancks, they are not going away, the thing about this virus (and its uniqueness) is that it eats the part of your brain that makes you human, makes you analyze things, so the scary thing about them is that even after they are turn they keep talking, thingking (not in a logical way but still) they are really terrifying, I don't know if you noticed with Newt, he kept coming and going, his consciousness was there a moment asking Thomas to kill him and then he was gone and trying to kill him. And the things or roots coming out of the cranks, that is something they added for the movie, the cranks in the books don't have that, they could pull out their eyes, arms, noses, and still go on with their lifes.

When they got back to film this he had to re-do the train scene he was doing when he got hurt, which idk about you but I don't think I could've gotten past that ptsd from the first time going so horrible.

Fun Fact: Most of this movie was filmed in South Africa (where I'm from) so it was really cool for me when I recognized certain locations like the bus station where Newt died and the wicked building (which is actually the Cape Town International Convention Center aka CTICC building). We even get a view from the base of our famous Table Mountain looking over Cape Town which has been transformed into the big city with the wall around it. The mountains in the background at the end of the movie where the safe haven is, is also very recognizable. Also, my friend was the main stunt double for Minho 😄

I was initially upset that they changed Newt's death from the books (it's similar, but far more devastating and really messed up in the book). I remember reading it and thinking it was the moment I looked forward to seeing the most; I expected them to stay pretty faithful to it because it's one of the most impactful moments in the whole series that it feels like the whole story built up to, especially the way you fall in love with Newt's character....it's so unbelievably tragic and dark.
But I eventually realized that it was probably actually TOO dark to include as it originally happened, at least for the tone they were going for in the movies. It works in the books because there's a lot of messed up stuff in them, it's almost like the author has some weird gore/mutilation fetish or something....but it would have been a bit too far and out of left field if the films suddenly steered that way right at the end. It was a bit much even in the books, I couldn't believe what I'd read. One of the most upsetting ends to any character.

The cast really is perfect, and the main group is still in touch to this day. Especially the bond between Dylan and Thomas is what I love. Oh, and then I read the first book and am still wondering why those two aren't canon. The vibes are so obvious that you have to be blind on purpose to not see it. The author meanwhile confirmed that Newt is in fact gay but I can't rememberif he confirmed as well that Newt was in love with Thomas. He made a comment though that he never wanted to put sexuality in focus because that was not the topic of the books but that he always thought it is logical that not every glader was straight.

In the books, Minho and Newt were really close. That's why Thomas never told Minho the truth that he was the one who took Newt out of his suffering (in the book, he shot Newt, but in the movie, he stabbed him). It was a merciful killing, but at the same time, Minho could have looked at Thomas differently after that, and Thomas only wanted Minho to remember Newt in a better light.

As much as I love this series and would love to see another film, I'm glad they stuck to just 3. I have to applaud Wes Ball for not only sticking around to direct all 3 films but for making that decision to not split the final movie into 2 parts like so many others. Like most book adaptations, as they go on the movies stray from the books. The first one is pretty much spot on, the second takes aspects from books 2 and 3, and the third has the foundation of the main storyline but Wes and the film writers had to take some creative liberties and did a fantastic job. I laughed, I cried, I was surprised, scared, anxious, this movie had it all. The only thing I could do without was the kiss between Thomas and Teresa, it just felt out of place. I know there was a subplot of a romance but I remember sitting in the theaters and whispering 'please don't kiss' and being disappointed when they did. Overall though, one of my favorite book and movie series!

Pulled from one vehicle, he was reportedly struck by another, leaving him with a concussion, facial fracture, and brain trauma among his injuries." It's when he is on that car trying to jump to that train. Everyone thought that he actually died, it was a miracle he survived and that's why they couldn't film and needed that break, Dylan needed time to recover (physically and mentally). He doesn't speak about this incident and every time anyone asks him his co-stars trying to cover for him, you can see how uncomfortable and agitated he is with that question.

Teresa is so stuck in her decision because of her backstory:
She lived alone with her Mum, who ended up catching the virus. Her Mum then locked herself in the basement and would scream and claw at the walls so much that it was engrained in Teresa’s head. She could hear her mother’s wailings even when out of the house.
One day, she wakes up and the wailing has stopped. It’s been 2 years. She opens the door to the basement to find her mother in a pool of blood with her eyes gouged out. Based on hearing, her mother turns to her and whispers “they’ve stopped. The visions have stopped.”
Teresa was a little girl who had to watch her Mum descend to insanity and hear her pain for 2 years, which only ended by her Mum tearing out her own eyes.
When WICKED (as it’s called in the books, contrary to WCKD in the films) comes a knocking, she offers herself because she never wants another person to go through what she has.
The Maze Runner is the perfect story of “do the ends justify the means?”
Can you justify putting literal teenagers through hell and back over and over again for years by the fact that you might eventually get the cure to this horrible virus?

Wait... Why do I clearly remember Thomas actully tossing the cure thing!? I have this vivid memory of him throwing it to the sea and getting so mad at it due to how different is to the books in the sense that a cure in actully never found in the books and the movie found one and Thomas gets rid of it like nothing... Wut?? I'm cofusion...
But well, even if he didn't get rid of it, he clearly is planning not to use it so I can still complain about them actully finding the cure hahaha!!!!
In the books at the end they find out Thomas COULD be the key to finding the cure, after all the experiments and everything they come to that conclusion and told Thomas to go back. He does go back, but originally was part of a plan with the Right Arm to infiltrate and put some divices that would mess with the security allowing the Right Arm to atack and destroy the lab. The thing is that in there, Thomas is told how close they are to find the cure and the only thing they need to do is analize his brain,(however, they needed him alive while analizing his brain, so he would end up in this Dead-Alive state with no recovery) and how by analizing it there is a High Chance to find the cure, but is not 100% guranteed. So Thomas is put is this delama in which he starts daubtig, if his sacrifice would save the world and other imunes how could he say no? But as there was no guranteed there was a probabillity that his sacrifice would mean nothing and WKCD would still do their experiments. At the end though, Thomas was never allowed to choose, Jensen, who was inffected sedated Thomas and took him to the room to open up his head. But while being uncouncious Ava came in and stopped the surgery leaving Thomas this map with intructions that led him to a transplana (some type of teleport) for him to take all the Inmunes with him choosing to leave the future to the next generation (side note that all that was happening while the Right Arm was atacking, so is a really intense finale sequence with everthing falling apart)
So I'm really annoyed with the third movie only because of the finale. I mean, camon! they DID find a cure and still choose to say "Screw the world" even when the cure was such a simple thing as using Thomas' blood, analize it and try to replicate it to save everyone, being a 100% Guranteed!!!!
I like the MR movies, even if they end up as their own thing getting far away from the books, they still work really well. My only problem is still the ending! I can't get over it!!!

Here endeth the third lesson of this amazing heroic trilogy. Although these films were adapted from a YA series of books, they are adult films, not YA, which probably explains the reaction of some viewers of that ilk. There is no female protagonist with associated love triangle etc. However, there is a love story, albeit one that's subtly understated. The films do homage to the books, but the universe of the films is not the same as the books. Thomas is very different in the films. You could describe the film trilogy as about selflessness and about a band of brothers, who follow the principle of "No man left behind." You could also say it's about life's stages with the first film being about childhood, the second about adolescence, and the third about adulthood. This only touches the surface, of course.
The films are deeply rooted in myth. The most obvious aspect being the ancient Greek myth of "Theseus and the Minotaur." Thomas is, naturally, both the hero Theseus and Daedalus, whereas Newt is Ariadne, and therein lies the trilogy's love story.
Heroic stories often follow the same basic pattern. In his book "The Hero with a Thousand Faces," Joseph Campbell, distilled the world's myths into a common structure which he called the monomyth or hero's journey. It's very concisely summarized as follows: A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man. That's the "Maze Runner" film trilogy in a nutshell.
What's the "boon" in the trilogy? Obviously, it's Thomas himself or, more specifically, his blood. He can potentially save mankind. By the end of the third film, Thomas has come to accept this as his destiny which he will meet even if it means his death. Tragic heroes almost always die, and Thomas is a tragic hero. This is without doubt what the epilogue of the final film means. Thomas is going back to the Krank-world, and he is going to offer himself up as a cure even if it means his life is forfeit. Unlike the books, Thomas is not going to remain in the Safe Haven with Brenda to live happily ever after. Even though WCKD's HQ was destroyed along with the city, there were more than one WCKD lab and installation referenced in the films. Ask yourself, where was WCKD evacuating to in the third film?
The fact that the trilogy doesn't end with a conventional happy-ending like boy-gets-girl or vice-versa, if that's your preference, also sets it apart. Another reason these are adult films. Nevertheless, many people do crave happy-endings. Instead, the film ends on a hopeful note. Thomas is going back. He's not going to stay in the Safe Haven, which, if you think about it, is really a new Glade. He's going to venture out into the maze again, the krank-filled-world. He's going to try to save, in this case, not just Alby and Minho, but the world. It's an open question whether he'll succeed. We hope so, but we don't know. This time the maze might defeat him. The end of the trilogy brings us full-circle, and we're back at the beginning.
Thomas and Theresa are basically mirror images of one another. They're both betrayers, and they both want a cure, but they're complete opposites otherwise. The key difference being Thomas is selfless, whereas Theresa is self-centered. Theresa often refers to her own personal history to explain her actions. Thomas never does. To be fair, Thomas can't because his personal history has been erased, but, even so, we can see his altruism is innate. Personal history would have no bearing on his actions. These attributes primarily motivate their respective actions.
Hopefully, everyone realizes there's no way Thomas could ever kill Newt, even Flare Newt. The same is true for Newt, but not Flare-Newt, of course. In that gut-wrenching struggle, Thomas would defend himself, but always stop short of killing Newt. Inevitably, Flare-Newt would kill Thomas. To save Thomas, Newt kills himself, instead, and as the Bible says: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." Whereas Thomas and Theresa were "oppositum ego," Thomas and Newt were "idem ego."
What effect did Newt's death have on Thomas? It's profound. Thomas is palpably different afterwards. He presents a diminished lifeforce and sadness. Not only did Newt die, but Thomas did, too. He will never again be the same person. Newt's death marks a turning point. From that time forward, Thomas will focus on being "the cure." He's not staying in the Safe Haven, he's leaving to save mankind. Thomas is determined to complete WCKD's mission, and we have yet another instance of immense tragic irony when Thomas, for a second time, offers himself to Ava Paige in lieu of the immunes. This time she accepts, and mankind might have been saved then and there, but Jansen, out of pure selfishness, kills her, and destroys the opportunity. The interplay between selflessness and selfishness is another aspect of the trilogy.
"Does the end justify the means" represents WCKD's agenda and is the central theme of the "Maze Runner" trilogy. It's a principle often associated with totalitarianism, and the phrase has its origin with Machiavelli, although the idea is much older. The principle is part and parcel of consequentialism, a teleological theory that says whether an action is morally good or bad depends on its outcomes. The more good outcomes outnumber the bad, the better/more moral the action. Under this rubric if WCKD finds a cure, then WCKD is very good, indeed.
Therea/WCKD adhere to this end-means principle rigidly. This principle is, unfortunately, a too common belief today. It allows people to believe their actions are justified regardless of how they go about achieving their desired end result. It potentially allows for all sorts of aberrant behaviors. A rather trivial example of this is the following scenario: My end is to get a certain work promotion. To get it, I work to sabotage all the other candidates. Hopefully, we agree that's not a nice way to behave. This is essentially the viewpoint of WCKD and Theresa, although they are dealing with an end of much greater significance. WCKD and Theresa are totally ruthless in their pursuit of a cure.
Thomas, on the other hand, believes that the means are just as important, or, maybe, even more important, than the end. His viewpoint is if the means are morally objectionable in themselves, then this outweighs any potential benefit from the end. In other words, the "how" is just as important as the "why." Thomas, just like WCKD, wants to find a cure to the Flare, he's only opposed to how WCKD tries to do it. Thomas is willing to sacrifice himself to obtain a cure and save humanity. He's not willing, however, to sacrifice the unwilling.
Theresa's/WCKD's morality is relativistic and man-centric, whereas Thomas' morality is based on absolute principles and God-centric. Even so, the trilogy challenges both WCKD's and Thomas' perspective, and makes us wonder which one is "right." I'm reminded of Pilate when he said: "What is truth?" We have man's truth, and we have God's Truth.
    Some miscellaneous observations:
Theresa is so wedded to WCKD, she chooses to die with WCKD.
Cranks/Kranks. Krank is German for sick, diseased, unwell etc. The English word also has that connotation if you think about it.
Newt was probably injected with Flare at Jansen's facility. Recall the giant hypo? He was injected in that arm. The mystery is why it took so long to manifest itself. Different people may react differently.
Thomas was shot in what looks to be the exact same spot as Ben was stung. By the way, under the circumstances, Thomas would have died from that gunshot wound. The only gripe I have about the films, and it's not really that big a gripe, is that Thomas should have died at the end of the third film. Tragic heroes almost always die, and since there weren't any more films, his arc was incomplete or left to the imagination.
Why was Theresa put into the maze? She was always meant to coax Thomas back to WCKD, should he survive, as befits her role as "temptress."
Why was Thomas put into the maze? Well, for betraying WCKD, but also to serve as an experimental catalyst to complete the Trial. He was the best and brightest of the immunes. A real genius, actually. His selflessness makes him act impulsively, and he can seem foolhardy as a result. He was Daedalus, the maze-maker etc., after all.
Why do Thomas and, apparently, Theresa remember bits of their past, whereas the others don't? That must be by WCKD's design. Perhaps it's part of the coaxing back plan? WCKD always seems to want Thomas back after he escapes the maze.
Why does Ben not seem to remember being stung or, presumably, the Griever? We know WCKD can wipe memories. Perhaps WCKD wanted stung boys to return to the Glade sometimes to create the situation he did. So, they'd wipe the memory of the sting/Griever. The Ben episode certainly created a lot of stress/terror for the Gladers, which was part of what the experiment was about.
Why does the mob destroy the city? It's part and parcel of the madness of mobs!!
Finally, what a fantastic trilogy "Maze Runner" is, especially when you consider all three films only cost $157 million. The average cost for a major Hollywood movie is $100 million. You'd never know it watching these three movies that they were done on the cheap. They come across as much more expensive productions. Hats off to the actors for their incredible performances and the director, crew and SFX folks, too. Job very well done.

Oh I'm sorry I am the BIGGEST Gally apologist, that boy also went throught hell, he was scared and acted according to his fear of the unknown. Not everyone is a Thomas, sometimes we're just Gallys trying to make sense of our reality staying on a sort of comfort zone.
He was also very much out of it when he ended up killing Chuck. And it's not like he pretends to not have done it, he felt awful for it.
He accepted the punches, he lived with the guilt and gave his all to help the group take down the people who were hurting them.
I'm sorry I screaaaaamed when Will Poulter turned his head, so absolutely iconic. And the way he conducted the "questioning" of Teresa>>>>
I adore Gally and stand by him!!!!!

I watched the trilogy first, then read the five books in the series, and I honestly don’t understand why they didn’t stick to the source material.
The first movie is closely adapted, but they didn’t include one thing that would have helped the plot of the later two movies. The second and especially the third are bastardized beyond recognition.
I found myself internally screaming and throwing the books across the room several times because the last two movies changed major and minor plot points. They both opt to paint over the existential horror with big action scenes whilst removing the human aspect of the cranks to instead have CGI monsters, but also remove the climax of the story that involves monsters that they could have CGI’d the shit out of.
The movies and the books diverge into two fully different universes after their first installments. I appreciate them both as their own entities.

I’m glad that you guys have finished the Maze Runner movies and I absolutely loved your reactions to them!! I really think that you guys should watch the Maze Runner bloopers whether you react to them on your channel or on your own as they’re really funny!!! Also the car flipping in the tunnel of cranks, actually wasn’t supposed to happen but they kept it in because it worked with the scene! Then the bus turning on with the words Out of Service on the screen after the bus fell wasn’t initially supposed to happen either but they also kept that in!
I also think that it would be really cool for you guys to react to the Chronicles of Narnia movies I know that they’re based on kids books however the movies are really good and I think you guys would actually really enjoy them especially the first one!!!!

The book, as well as the movie questions Choice. WCKD never gave people or kids the dignity of making a choice. Given the choice, many would volunteer to help make a cure. But the choice was taken from them and I believe there lay the problem. Forcibly taking kids from their families is never okay, even for the greater good. There always is another way

So there is actually a book that came out in 2022 called the Maze Cutter that is 73 years AFTER the events of the Death Cure but I haven't really seen much press for this book. Not sure if they would be making a movie about this. In the back of this book it does say 'The first book in a new series set' so maybe if this does as well as the Maze runner series we might see more movies?
