It's not just religion, it's an important part of human history that was destroyed. It was in the past and mistakes were made, but riddle me this why in the year 2024 Turkiye decided that a world heritage monument like a byzantine monastery should be turned into a mosque?

There was a time in the Orthodox Church where iconoclasm was embraced and was later refuted. Iconoclasm refers to the belief that it's important to destroy icons or images, usually for religious or political reasons. The term originated from the Byzantine Empire, where there was a conflict between those who supported religious icons and those who opposed them. So, it's equally possible that iconoclasts within the church itself damaged those.

The nature in Northern Greece is VAST as you can see from your road trip so far. The reason there's so few towns is because the population density in western Macedonia and Epirus is one of the lowest in Europe😆Since you're heading westwards I highly recommend the Dragon Lakes; Tymfi, but especially Smolikas. It is for the adventurous but your mind will be blown. There's many beautiful cities and towns all across Macedonia, Epirus, and even heading south towards Sterea Ellada, look up the city of Messologi, it has a very long (and very tragic) history 😢

Also. The place Dispilio at tge lake of Kastoria in this video are much more important. Much more important
    For 2 reasons:
    1. They found the Dispilio tablet here which is the oldest linear writing found on earth dated to 7300 years ago.
Its predating ealiest Egyptian proto hyroglyphics and ealiest proto Cuneiform by over 2000 years.
    2. And secondly.
They found obsidian in this place from the period of 9000-7000years. And obsidiannis ONLY found in Milos island, 600km south in the middle of the Aegean. What this means is that 8000 years ago the peoples of Greece had extendsive trade that connected the people around the mainland and islands.
So its 2 very importany things about then place Dispilio

The wall iconography in the second church is definitely new (i.e. probably 20th century). The temple looks glorious so it must be quite old. Good iconography today is next to impossible to find: it is all quite stylised and is mostly based on quick reproduction techniques, not original artwork. Old iconography, by contrast, has a living, eerie and very ethereal quality: its very purpose is to portray the world beyond the physical, ephemeral one.

Actually the correct pronunciation is E-dessa not ed-E-ssa. At this time it is wiser for someone to go to the south to avoid the bad weather, from June to September it is better to visit Northern Greece. I know you have come to Crete but I think you will like the eastern part of it and it was a good choice for this season, we have 30 degrees Celsius here.

Hey glad you made it to my father’s village of Edessa! (pronounced Ethessa)
I think you’d enjoy Volos and the mountains before heading to the island of Skiathos.

The big, beautiful Church in Edessa looks very similar to the Panagia of Agiasos, Lesvos. A beautiful, big Church with similar frescos, furnishings and lights. Well worth a visit, as well as roaming the laneways of the town. Lots of quirky ceramics/pottery shops.

Forgot to write, if you have never visited, the small island of Meganisi, it is worth a visit. 30 min ferry from Nidri, here you will sail past the island of Skorpios, which you have probably heard of, otherwise try searching for it. Tina

The waterfall is not the only one located within urban area in Europe. There is another one in a small town of Jajce in Bosnia.

Oh man, you missed an opportunity to visit Pozar hot springs, the place is beautiful, it's a 40-minute drive from Edessa. FYI the village at 26:00 is called Lehovo.
You should definitely take the old mountainous road from Kastoria to Ioanninna through Nestorio village. A tour to Ioannina would be awesome and maybe visit the Ancient Donona and the wax museum of Vrellis near the town. I made the same trip a week ago, the lamp chops at Konitsa are a must. ;)

It is not true that the only waterfall is in the urban part of the city... In Bosnia, you have a large waterfall in the town of Jajce in the urban part of the city, the strict center....Jajce,Bosnia.
