  • The Oldest Baseball Park in America, Birmingham’s Rickwood Field, opened on Aug. 18, 1910, when the hometown Birmingham Barons beat the visiting Montgomery Climbers. In the 114 years since, more than 100 members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame have roamed Rickwood’s outfield and circled its bases, including such Rickwood legends as Satchel Paige, Willie Mays, Reggie Jackson and Rollie Fingers.
On June 20, Rickwood Field will host its first-ever regular season Major League Baseball game, when the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants come to Birmingham for MLB at Rickwood: A Tribute to the Negro Leagues. The eyes of the nation will be on one of the crown jewels of baseball that night, and some of the giants of the game are expected to be there.

RIP Say Hay Kid. I was lucky enough to watch you play, and freaked out when you became a Met, and watched you play right in front of my eyes. It would have been great to see you this evening at this legendary field again.
