    They never solved the noise and vibration problem. The logical step forward is go with low blade loading + low rpm / low tip speed design to reduce wake energy density which is the primary source of noise and vibration in props / fans. AVOID coaxial setup. Mount the fans on the wings as tractor and profile the wings to recover some of the spinning airflow into thrust or even use the spinning flow to counteract spanwise flow of the wings!! With low enough blade loading, you won't be having any vibration and noise issues even if the fans are tractor wing-mounted. You also improve short field performance as well.

    What happened to the Dunducted fan engine developed by General Electric?

      JLS Leo the GE90 came along, which was better and other engines based on a similar philosophy.

    Well it "...withered on the vines for some reason or another..." all over again, you never see these anywhere in practical use, not even on electric?
