    • @2thesunnyside
      @2thesunnyside  Před 4 lety

      Thanks Debra! Yes that would be a darling finished look with a finial. If it had a smooth bottom you could glue it on like we did with the candlestick. If it screws into place, you could carefully drill a hole in the middle of the plate and have it screw down into the candlestick. (Hopefully that made sense.) Let us know if you make a tiered tray, and how it turns out. Thanks for joining us on our channel.

    I have never seen salt wash before, however, you said the ratio was 1 part paint and 3/4 part salt wash, so I am already confused because your ratios are more flipped and if it is supposed to be thick, then does the salt wash soak up the paint to make it that thick?

    • @2thesunnyside
      @2thesunnyside  Před 4 lety

      Sorry if we were confusing. Think of the mixture like you're baking a cake. You start with the paint (wet ingredients) and then add in the saltwash little by little (the dry ingredients). Depending on the type of paint you're using it may require more or less saltwash. The key is getting the right consistency. You're aiming to get an "icing-like" consistency.
      Here's a little more about the ratios directly from the saltwash site: "Mix Saltwash powder in an approximate 1:1 ratio, depending on your paint of choice. See ratio mixing grid below. For best results, pour paint into a mixing container first and gradually add your Saltwash® powder until it is of an “icing-like” consistency. We suggest to begin mixing with smaller quantities of paint, 16-oz is a great starting point, and to stir your Saltwash® powder mixture every 2-4 scoops."
      saltwash powder mix ratio
      Milk Paint: 14 oz + Saltwash 8 oz
      Latex Paint: 16 oz + Saltwash 16 oz
      Acrylic Paint: 16 oz + Saltwash 16 oz
      Chalk Paint: 16 oz + Saltwash 12 oz
      Hope this helps. If you have any more questions, let us know.

      Thanks Cary! It does right? We're both drawn to expensive styles, but we have a ton of fun recreating that high end look at a fraction of the cost!

      Hi Jan! We're glad to have you here with us! Saltwash is a paint additive. It's made from real sea salt. You can add it to ANY type of paint! It gives your project a weathered and worn, salty air finish. You can pick it up through this link if you want to give it a try. (Also, it does have a blue hue to it, but it doesn't change the color of your paint at all.)
