Yes it is nice. The medicare raises do not cover the insurances tacked on it.
When they retire, all congress and senators should their own insurances like us
regular citizens. WE keep saying this but, there is no option on the ballot box
      or anywhere that says so.

The cost of our health insurance that we are told we have to keep in order to receive federal retirement and health insurance goes up more than our SS checks go up. So basically our net SS checks after a cost of living increase goes down. Sounds like a joke but it is real.

That's interesting because I was wondering if the spouse could get SSI also even if he and she isn't disabled but their partner is. My cousin's wife gets SSI, but he's not disabled so I don't think he gets anything but he sure does take a lot of her money since he hasn't worked in years. Also, I wasn't aware they still send out paper checks in the mail, but I heard that's how my cousin's wife gets hers. I have no idea why she doesn't have a debit card like Direct Express.

@@Azuremuse Yes, I agree. It's fraud if he OP attempts to do that. My cousin's wife was living in a similar situation even though she wasn't getting SSI, her mother was. However, when she moved out and married my cousin she continued to use free medical (Medicaid) until she was caught. She wasn't supposed to be using it anymore since she was no longer living in her mother's household and it was her mother that was getting Medicaid that she kept using.

The response is correct depending on age and for ssdi it is based off of your social security paid in for 5 consecutive quarters in time. SSI is state funded most of the time. It is for disabled people. I worked either 1 full time and one part time job and at one point had two full time jobs disabled at 53 noe 60 my SSDI bring home minus Medicare B and D is 1844. I started working when I was 15.
