Volvo XC40 (2019-2022): How To Connect (Enable) Android Auto?

This video will show how to connect (enable) Android Auto in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 Volvo XC40.
In the Volvo XC40, you need to connect the USB cable to your smartphone and to the USB port with a white frame inside the XC40. Then you need to enter the App View by swiping the screen from right to left and press the Android Auto app. Now you can use the Android Auto Interface in Volvo XC40.
Android Auto Interface allows you to use Google Maps, listen to music, make phone calls and use other apps from your phone without physically touching the phone.
Android Auto in your Volvo XC40 can be controlled by using voice commands. Press and hold the voice command button on the right-side steering wheel keypad, and say the command. E.g. "Take me to the gas station." The same result can be achieved by simply saying "OK Google" or "Hey Google" without pressing the voice command button. It will also activate the voice control.
After the initial setup, Android Auto will automatically open every time you connect your phone using the USB cable. If you don’t want it to automatically connect, you can change it in the settings. Settings - Communication - Android Auto.
A maximum of 20 Android Auto devices can be stored in the vehicle. If the list is full and you add another device, the oldest one will be deleted. The only way to delete all of them is to do a factory reset.

it is not safe to have android auto on one third of the screen. It should be full screen with the map integrated on the driver screen.

Yes, if you have only one USB port in the XC40 it does not have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.

If your XC40 only has 1 USB port in the central console, you don't have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. It can be retrofitted with Android Auto / Apple CarPlay but this needs to be done at the dealership.
