    Hey, Jim, great video. I got my PRS CE24 specifically for the 85/15 pickups - I love their clarity and sound. PRS does not sell them separately. Paul Reed Smith has been asked many times, will they ever sell their pickups separately and he always answers, "No, never, how it works is you buy the PRS pickups and you get a guitar with them for free."

    • @AudiomoMusic
      @AudiomoMusic  Před 2 lety +2

      Its always made me laugh at the response from them because its so blunt. I wanted to mention the 57-08 and 59-09 because those are pickups they do sell separately, its frustrating not having wither of those as options! I loved the 85/15 in the CE24 as well, its a great selling point but man… if I could have swapped this neck for that one I had I doubt I would have sold it but it was substantially thinner strangely enough. Fantastic guitar outside of that personal preference of mine.

    I’ve gone all PRS all the time after 50 years. Single coil, P90, Humbucker, 22 fret, 24 fret, I’m known for being in tune and on time at live gigs.

    • @AudiomoMusic
      @AudiomoMusic  Před 2 lety

      It's funny, in a video I just did I used my Gibson and it refused to reliably stay in tune and all I could think to myself was, this is not a problem with any PRS i play. I absolutely love PRS guitars and have a core coming this week I sold off a Gibson and a nice USA fender for, can't wait.

  • @meteorologystudentgavin6370

    That is definitely one of the most beautiful finishes that I’ve seen on a PRS. I also wanted to compliment you on your playing because it seems to me like you almost have your own style of playing that is instantly recognizable from the other guitarist CZcamsrs that I watch. Your playing is as smooth as butter, and that should be something to be proud of.

    • @AudiomoMusic
      @AudiomoMusic  Před 2 lety

      I'm humbled to read something like this, I don't think I'm a particularly great guitarist if I'm honest, and I think the reason I do have my playstyle is because I didn't learn covers or anything or get traditional lessons... I think it's just bad habits I managed to kind of form into a presentable package 🤣

    Just bought a Custom SE 24. It is great. Very nicely made-high quality. As you say, it is versatile and I can dial in tons of sound varieties. Feels great to play. My only issue is that the strings buzz. But I think that is because it is my first electric guitar. I learned on classical, where you really hammer the strings hard, so I am trying to adjust to a lighter touch. Overall fantastic-I am very pleased.

    Really great review. Was looking seriously hard at this for a 24 fret option to go with my Core DGT, especially with the neat switching options but I have to say I'm leaning more towards a CE 24 due to the pickups. In fact, I may go with a used Core CE 24, still thinking it over but in any event I really appreciated this fine review. Thanks.

    • @AudiomoMusic
      @AudiomoMusic  Před 2 lety

      The old CE24s are still great deals indeed. They can be had for under $1500 in great shape on a fairly regular basis, the only thing I give the newer CEs the edge in are the pickups. I greatly prefer the 85/15's that come in the newer versions

    Liked the video. I have an epiphone les paul custom and love it. I just play at home for myself and really like the look and color of the of the PRS guitars. I have a Jackson soloist with a Floyd rose and I hate it. I don’t like fenders and I’m on the fence whether to get a full blown Gibson, Les Paul, or a PRS. I’m not sure if I want to spend that much money on a Gibson when the Epiphone sounds almost identical. Right now I have been going back-and-forth between getting an SE custom 24-08 or the S2 custom 24-08. I really want one with locking tuners and I like how the S2 has the color all the way around. I’m debating on whether to spend the extra thousand dollars on an S2 when it has the same pick ups as the SE. I could save $1000 and get the SE and just by locking tuners and it would be the same guitar at a BBQ thousand less. Do the pick ups in the S2 sound pretty good? I’m going to be getting on Marshall DSL 40 CR I’m just play in my Living Room and I will never play anywhere else but I’m wondering if the pick up sound good enough for just home use?

    • @AudiomoMusic
      @AudiomoMusic  Před 2 lety +1

      I think they suit that guitar better as well Alfred, I'm by no means a builder but I was also very surprised how much I loved the thinline 594 as is... the full sized 594 s2 with the same pickups I really didn't care for either but regardless as you said - build quality is top notch all the way around for the S2 line

  • @greggsheridan9325
    @greggsheridan9325 Před rokem

    Can you answer a PRS question for me? I’ve never held a PRS so I don’t know what the necks are like but I love the Les Paul thick neck and I’ve had a lot of people on CZcams talk how thin the CE 24 neck is. I’m really on the fence between getting an S2 custom 24-08 or a CE 24. I like the switching idea on the S2 but I’m worried about the pick ups compared to the CE24. If I just play at home do you think I would notice that much difference in the pick ups between those two? they are only about $500 apart and I don’t want to buy one and then regret not buying the other one with a better pick ups. Thank you and if anyone else has played both, can you please let me know how big the differences in the pick ups?

    • @AudiomoMusic
      @AudiomoMusic  Před rokem

      I can save you all of the trouble of going past the first recommendation and saying you will likely not like either of these necks if you like a 50's Gibson Neck. These are extremely thin by comparison and feel much more modern in general. If you are really into the idea of a S2 custom 24, I would highly recommend looking for a pre-2022 Model - those come with a Pattern Regular neck which is a bit thicker than the Pattern thin that both the new S2 Custom 24 ( and 24-08 ) as well as the CE-24 both have. There is even a 35th Anniversary Custom 24-08 Model that is no longer in production but does have the same switching as this model but with a thicker neck on it. As far as the pickups go, thats all stuff that will be more than good enough 95% of the time, and honestly for most people they won't find that missing 5% all too often if ever. Feel is the most important thing and that starts with the neck. Thanks for watching and let me know if there's anything else I can help you out with - Jim

      @AudiomoMusic  Před 2 lety

      Hey Eric, I actually think I'm going to have the opportunity to do a direct comparison between them for this channel in the next week or so... but given my experience with the regular SE C24s, the build quality is great on those and they will also get the job done but the US one feels noticeably better to play not just with the fret work, just the consistency and extra attention to detail is something that made me feel OK with going for the S2 over the SE in this instance. A shame the Core models are 4k, I couldn't possibly justify that at this point 🤣

    Great review, Jim. That's a stunner of a guitar ! I do have a question for you though, if the electronics are the same as the SE's, and the SE's are already built to a high quality, is there a big step up in terms of feel, fit and finish, given the price difference between those and this guitar ? (By the way, a local shop has the SE Starla on sale at £399 instead of £549, this video isn't helping me to ignore that , lol).

    Definitely a beautiful guitar but for 2k, with pickups I'd wanna change and need for a hard case... no tbh. For 500 more I've seen a PRS experience guitar used so would go there (been tempted). Lovely guitar and great brand but just think there's better value personally - that said you know its consistent and quality so for those loving it stock or wanting to add those things its no doubt worth it and at least nothing on it will let you down - plus that top and finish are beautiful!

    • @AudiomoMusic
      @AudiomoMusic  Před 2 lety +2

      Yep, I totally get it. The PRS Experience guitars are really something else too, you get something extremely unique. To me with PRS despite the prices being high I can actually get past it because i KNOW i am getting something I can use that night if need be and it will do great. That to me is worth the price of admission and the other two big guys there is not a chance in hell I can make that same statement unless we are talking about the Fender Custom Shop and well let's face it, at the price of one of those you can buy a core PRS. Having been able to play and demo so many guitars it really makes me happy to directly support PRS buy purchasing new even if it was imho a bit expensive.

    • @IanNorsworthy
      @IanNorsworthy Před 2 lety

      @@AudiomoMusic Oh yeah absolutely - they are 100% a company worth supporting and that knowing it will be great is a huge huge thing, especially nowadays! Thats an interesting question in there - would you rather a core PRS or a Custom Shop Fender if they were the same cost? which would you opt for? - can imagine that would generate some debate!
      But absolutely - its a stunning guitar!
      I wish I was a bit more flush right now as to get the PRS I'd have to trade one or both my main guitars which I'm not sure is worth it considering I enjoy them, though I have to say its still tempting as its a stunning guitar .... any advice welcome haha!

    • @AudiomoMusic
      @AudiomoMusic  Před 2 lety +1

      I will not be tasked with such a difficult decision on your end, but that's a really great deal for a PRS experience that will never need a dime put into it...
      If i had to pick at this point I'd get the Core PRS for 2 reasons. Firstly, I have the Fender Custom Shop I already really wanted - the Tele, and secondly if we are talking purchasing new I'd much rather that money directly go to PRS out of personal preference between the two brands. That being said, I am already on the lookout long term for a purple core PRS... so many options...

    • @IanNorsworthy
      @IanNorsworthy Před 2 lety

      @@AudiomoMusic haha yeah I'd never solely put the responsibility on you !! yeah its definitely tempting.. that and then get a backup guitar at some point potentially but have that as the main one. But then I do love the two I have and my bandmates LOVE my jazzmaster so might kill me if that goes lol ....a tricky one.
      And yeah that is important and was interesting on the livestream - the brand that deserves the support... and yeah purple PRS's are awesome!

    Great review. Question, why is it that we equate US electronics as better? I prefer "made in USA" but, it occurs to me that in almost every other category, I value electronics made elsewhere, e.g. Samsung, Apple, DJI... So, why is it hard to consider the same folks that make our other high-end electronics can make quality guitar electronics? Certainly an iphone is more technical than wire around a magnet. Don't get me wrong, I don't prefer this assumption, but I'm struggling to justify why overseas electronics would necessarily be inferior. Maybe, it's just preference anymore.

    • @AudiomoMusic
      @AudiomoMusic  Před 2 lety

      That's the interesting thing indeed Ben, there's nothing stopping them from doing it. There is not some magic that only Americans have when it comes to winding pickups, the problem is that as of right now when it comes to production guitars the overwhelming majority of highest quality ones are indeed made in the USA. Pots, switches, caps come from various parts of asia, CTS pots which is the industry standard are mostly made in Taiwan. However when it does come to the pickups the CE24 are a perfect example of a gigantic tonal difference without a gigantic price difference, and it all comes down to the pickups. It's not even close with the G&B korean pickups and Core PRS versions.
      One has to assume there will inevitably come a point in time for financial reasons more of the high quality ones start getting outsourced over seas but I've also never entirely understood why it hasn't already happened.
