  • The time has FINALLY come! In this video we make the trip down to Nevada where my 1971 Chevy Nova race car has been for the last couple of weeks getting some work done to the tunnel and firewall. The results of that look amazing and the car will be much safer.
    Another project we wanted to tackle while in Nevada was to install the brand new Lexan front windshield... but we were talked into something different?! Lastly, we worked tirelessly on getting the fully refreshed 383ci small block Chevy race engine installed along with our fully refreshed th400 transmission. With a few hiccups we were able to get the car started for the first time after the refresh and switching over to E85 and let me tell you... the difference in sound is INSANE!!
    Watch to the end as I do a sound comparison at idle from VP110 race fuel to VP X85 (E85).
    A big thanks to the sponsors and companies that help make these videos happen.

    The first time you let go of the button, you're gonna be real happy you switched fuels. The amount of low end torque you are going to gain will surprise you. They do sell a 135* fitting. They're not cheap, but man they are handy when needed. I've had a lexan windshield in my car ever since I bought it in 1999. I am over it. If I keep the car, it will be getting a stock glass windshield put back in it. The last windshield I put in it was Optic Armor. Man it was nice a piece, but stupid expensive. It looked great. Right until the first time I got alcohol on it, and it took all the scratch resistant coating off immediately. Now I'm back to barely being able to see out of it.

      Im definitely excited to run the car and see how much of a difference the fuel makes! And yeah, I think I’ll be happy I went with glass in the front. All the other windows are Lexan and I will probably keep those that way but man the front was so hard to see out of. Plus I was wanting to install it without any rivets because I didn’t like that look so it would’ve been hard to get the Lexan to form with just the polyurethane. We got the glass in yesterday and it looks amazing! Especially with the tint strip at the top

    Engine Masters did gas vs. E85 on a 555 big block with a 8-71 blower and it picked up 100hp on E85. Being a smaller engine and a smaller blower, I'd say you'll see 50-60ish? Either way, you should definitely see a significant ET difference.

      @@PLANBRACING I've only taken this setup to the track 3 times in 6 years. In October I made the license passes for my NHRA license. I did not go full throttle in first gear. Best 1/8 pass was 5.86 at only 118 because I was only on the throttle for 5 seconds, 2.5 at half throttle and 2.5 at full throttle in the top of 2nd. I plan on taking it to the track this year and it should go mid 8's. It was built to run that or quicker. I coasted to a 9.49 1/4 after running a 5.92 part throttle 1/8 mile at 123. Thanks!

      Haven’t been able to tell how much it’s helping quite yet. Won’t really know until we get to the track. It’s supposed to be a cooler fuel and there’s A LOT more going in now so I would think it’s going to help a lot!

    What a difference in how it sounds and idles. Sure you didn't slip another camshaft in on us? Curious how well that carb is going to work. Running dual carbs on a 671 sbc that I'm wanting to change. Is that carb boost referenced?

    • @PLANBRACING
      @PLANBRACING  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I swear no new camshaft lol! I’m curious how good it will work too. I’ve heard nothing but good things about ATM and they seemed pretty confident when I called them about my setup. So far only thing we’ve done is set the bowl levels and adjusted the idle a tad! Yes it is boost referenced.

    Looking good and sounding good! E85 is working great for me. I’m down in South Florida. I did a test drive around the neighborhood for 45 minutes or so came back and put a temp gun on the blower just below the carburetor was 93°.!!! Before E85 the blower was getting so hot. The carburetor would get heat soaked and run like crap! Check out my Nova. If you get a chance I got some videos on my channel.

    Hey, fellow idahoan here, Ive also got the 192. Im curious if you are running your coolant temp sensor off that port in the back of the manifold ? or is that air charge temp?

    • @PLANBRACING
      @PLANBRACING  Před 6 měsíci

      Hey! Yes I’m using the port in the manifold (drivers side) for my coolant temp. I’m using the little port as well on the passenger side for a boost gauge!

    What did your inlet air temperature drop to on the E85 and pulley ratio? I just upgraded my 192 to the high-helix rotors.

    • @PLANBRACING
      @PLANBRACING  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I’m not sure on the inlet air temp. Honestly I don’t have a gauge. The gauge last year was that the heads would cool way down before you could even touch the blower. So far on just idle warm ups it’s been about the same temp as the heads so I’m hoping that’s the case after a pass too! You’ll have to let me know how the high-helix rotors are!

    • @tristan_white
      @tristan_white Před 6 měsíci +1

      @PLANBRACING I installed a IAT sensor so that I could maximize inlet air density without turning the blower so fast that temp rises too much and actually starts hurting power. I recommend it! So far I have only put like 10-15 miles on it so not much data yet. I will tell you that at the exact same rotor speed the boost went up about 1.5-2 psig. The 35 tooth upper and 67 tooth lower (1.91:1) made 6.5 psig with the 2-lobe rotor, and with the 3-lobe high-helix it made just over 8 psig. I have a few videos on it, but this is my first startup:

      @tristan_white yours sounds awesome! I’ll be posting videos this race season on if it’s really helping or not. I will look into a IAT sensor! E85 is a cooler fuel, and there’s a lot more going in vs my gas carb so I’m hoping it works!

    • @tristan_white
      @tristan_white Před 6 měsíci +1

      @PLANBRACING Thank you! Yeah, I am very curious how much it will help with power. Are you going to dyno it or just see what your time slip shows? I did a horsepower prediction video a month or so ago where I showed where I installed my sensor. It's the best place I could think of to provide the most accurate data. I have a small heat soak issue, so I am going to swap it to a smaller sensor and use a nylon bushing to insulate the sensor more. I have the computer pulling timing as Temps get above 130°F.

      @PLANBRACING  Před 6 měsíci
