Sorry for the audio glitch at the beginning of the video. Sometimes my microphone cuts out right at the beginning. Also, my uniform is still down in the ship's laundry. Anyways, what businesses would YOU start? Sound off below!
I actually took inspiration from your CZcams transcript download video and built an entire Flask app with web interface and everything. It only dawned on me when I was going to ship it live that there might be some copyright issues if people decided to download other people's transcripts. It was a fun exercise though. I was going to throw ads on it and make a little money that way.
Yeah I have no idea how transcripts would figure into that... But that's cool!
Get an AI powered Mic ;)
I’m going to make a killer game that’s a VR RPG with LLM NPCs. Powered by UE5, Metahumans and the whole schblang. And it’ll be epic just like the good ole Ultima VII and I also have a nominal approval from Lord British himself. Should I start accepting preorders or not?! 😅
An AI-based executive assistant would be great. Something to regulate an ADHD brain, get us back on track, with the goals that we set it. So it talks to us, knows all our emails, listens to our conversations, and basically "groks" us. Initially we do all the human interaction (it does drafts), but as we trust (and as it runs locally, with our data), we can delegate more to it.
Basically turning ourselves into hyperoptimal cyborg CEOs or executives. How do you think we get there, David? No doubt, Microsoft is envisaging this sort of thing with MS Co-Pilot, which I've yet to use.
I think that it would likely need access to:
1) What is said, i.e. audio (microphone or linked into android sound)
2) Visual (ala Google Glass)
3) Your phone, and
4) Your work computer
Seems like both MS and Google (or Apple for the iPhone users) have most of the domain. Some apple users will have all of it, presumably. Indeed Apple is likely to have the largest demographic in a complete walled garden, and be in prime position to integrate. I get the feeling that multi-modal AI capability that is equivalent to Claude 3 Opus, will be effectively common/FOSS by 2026, maybe earlier. I suspect "smart enough" + massive context window + integration with your digital life + First Person POV AV will be the prerequisites.
This is not so much a business that I would start (as I suspect it's fairly obvious for MS/Apple/Google) but it's a product I want. Especially if it can be run locally. I want uncensored too, so I can tell it what I really think. And adequate backup. And a pony. And more vespene gas
1:08 - Idea #1: Hyper Local Securities Exchange
5:03 - Idea #2: CEO-as-a-service
8:01 - Idea #3: Bespoke Entertainment
9:33 - Idea #4: Big Data Broker
thank you
Idea 2: CEO-AI sounds superb, give it a dedicated phone number, an email account, LinkedIn account, persistent memory and all the company's plans and data. Set yourself as the board. This is a Artificial Human Intelligence Level project. Though with this sensitive data i would only do it if it runs locally and completely transparent & private.
Going forward, will "board of members" cease to exists? And instead we'll have CEO bots in their place? Assuming most of the work done by executives is decision-making(which they are) I think you're right. AI just needs to evolve into a better decision-maker and we can just hire a bot to run our company. Sam Altman's prediction that soon we'll have a billion dollar business run by one person seems plausible after all!
Can't wait for that scam email to redirect payments 😁
"certainly it's smarter than some people I know" 😂
If you are disabled and lacking energy, I am a bit terrified about what an able and energized Dave world be like!

Idea 1 is revolutionary, will also make DAOs more accessible for investment, for kickstarers, startups, and opensource communities to get public funding... Incredible, i hope to see this in the close future
It would be even better if there was a non-financial way that ordinary people can get involved, perhaps using a system similar to the Buy Nothing app. This way people with belongings rather than just cash can be involved.
True, but we'll need the support of blockchain to realize it.
This would need regulatory approval. Not gonna happen.
@@harmless6813 elaborate please?
@@singularity8310 What do you want me to elaborate on? Things related to investment usually need regulatory approval. Reason is protection of investors. And for this kind of investment, I just don't see it happening.
You are an inspiration @David Shapiro
Are you gonna make an AGI update video?
Eventually. When the news is right
Great vid. We need more brainstorming about the careers and business models of the future
Well done. I don’t even remember why I first started watching you, but I’m glad I did.
Whenever I hear the term "oversaturated" I feel like it comes from a scarcity mindset. I am reminded of how in 2009 we thought it was impossible to start a vlog on CZcams because it was already so saturated. And now, I see people starting their own channels and making $10k per month. So, the idea of a market being oversaturated comes from a limited belief system. Robotics, while you are correct the hardware end of it is difficult, has barely begun to scratch the surface of capabilities and future deployment. This is an area I firmly believe will explode in the next 5-10 years. Huge growth potential especially with embodied AI.
It was not oversaturated in 2009 what are you talking about i have regret that I didn't start CZcams channel in 2019 and you are taking about 2009 when most of the emerging market like India had no idea about CZcams, Vlogging etc. Even the most popular channels around the world and western world started between 2010-2015.
@@ayanbanerjee7479 CZcams came out in 2005, and by 2009 'we thought' it was oversaturated. Not to say that it was, because obviously it wasn't. So, as I stated previously, whenever I hear someone say 'oversaturated' I reminded of that situation and say, nothing is ever oversaturated. The key words here being "we thought" and that was all us guys watching the rise in popularity of CZcams, and Vine and others.
Yes David love these ideas, the CEO stands out for me!
Make it so!
I’m autistic as well and spy a guitar + room treatment. 👀 music skills in hiding. 🎸
Major props on the output despite the difficulty, I know it too well.
Interesting ideas, thank you for sharing! 👍
As a game designer I'm most closely looking at the ability to generate bespoke entertainment. As you said, it's not quite there yet, but I don't know that there is actually a business opportunity here. There might be a brief window where tools built on top of foundation models can generate content that the foundation models can't generate on their own, but I feel like that window will quickly close and make those tools obsolete as the foundation models gain the capability to generate bespoke content that previously required specialized tools.
In the same vein as the AI CEO I had a similar idea when creating my custom GPT based on Brian Greene’s books (48 laws of power etc). It’s power broker on the GPT store. As someone who is also autistic I made it to help me navigate complex social situations. I feed it the situation in detail and It gives me the logic behind what I should do and cites the laws and rules from each of his books that are relevant to the situation.
Awesome idea.👍🏽
Great idea!
An idea I have entertained is AI toys. Chatbots are fun but how do you interact with them in the real world in a way that's affordable to the average person? You connect an AI app to a toy robot or plushie and it responds to its surroundings. The physical robotics side of it would be pretty simple, technology we've had for decades.
🚨SUMMARY🚨
1. A hyperlocal Securities Market: This would allow people to invest in all sorts of things, not just publicly traded stocks on exchanges. It would leverage AI and blockchain technology and would require some legal reforms.
2. CEO as a service: This would involve creating an AI that could act as a CEO, making decisions and running a company. Shapiro believes AI could soon be smarter than most humans and could outperform a human CEO.
3. Personalized AI entertainment: This would be a subscription service that would provide users with personalized novels, music, movies, and video games.
4. Big Data curation: This business would focus on collecting and curating large datasets for training and updating AI models. There is a lot of money to be made in selling access to these datasets.
Here is a suggestion of a project, albeit maybe not a company that you could start with low energy, low capital, and limited time.
First Google VASSAL
Now VASSAL is open source and is built using JAVA.
Now the project is to integrate ChatGPT's and AI in general into VASSAL.
And one can use that in VASSAL for three (no four) things.
1. Design a game in VASSAL
2. Integrate the game rules into VASSAL
3. Use those rules to build a player AI
4. Use the AI to add chrome to the game. like personalities, messages, imbedded journalist, etc.
And this can be used not just to enhance board games but can be used to train bots as well in that virtual sims (e.g. a board game) can be used as a world model for AI.
BTW, as far as a business goes, once one has figured out how to do this, some of the game companies might hire you to do that for their games.
the f*** does that even mean: imbedded journalist?
And games with AI personalities doesn't exist yet. So you have no base to build upon. It's not even save those will ever find mainstream success and in which form. A company tried to make such a game would want to built it on their own so they can tailor it to their specific game. for example one game might want a whole AI narrative, others would want only side dialogues to be AI and others would want that AI to do totally other stuff.
It's also unclear if that even works for let's say side dialogues. because when a random npc can say everything, he doesn't say anything at all. so there is a huge question mark if this technology even makes the player engage more with the game or if it leads to disengagement. there is surely a way how to implement AI successfully into a video game but how that looks like no one knows yet.
Aside from me misspelling embedded one can Google
KSTP Embedded Journalists 2003 Gulf War
to see what an embedded journalist is and does.
They serve sport of like a sportscaster does in a football or baseball game
Thus the AI could report on what is happening in the game from a given perspective.
And in regard to personalities like is a commander aggressive, timid, or has some other attributes that might affect play. plus some chrome like adding some dialog and such like take cover! or Run for your lives! and such.@@Noqtis
so sad that openAI is now open for military use
I'm not happy about it either but I get it.
You thought AI would never be used by government?
@@7th_CAV_Trooper It is way too early.
Governments of ANY country shouldn't enter so early on this affair with their war games and self security projects, not now. @@7th_CAV_Trooper
Democratize decentralized AI is the only way to counter the military industrial complex. Just in case the system becomes tyrannical, which is just on the edge of possibility, if not subtly already there.
These are some excellent ideas Dave. I really like the idea of local exchanges and data brokers. Hopefully the government will wake up and help to facilitate these.
Brilliant usecase. Combining mom/pop business scale to hyper local blockchain server grids...
Outsource the CEO seems to be the best IMHO. (The others are either fully dependent on government regulations that is driven by big corporations or are already on the radar of Disney/Netflix). Every small company I worked at or collaborated had great scientists and engineers but nobody wanted to do the CEO job and the CEO's they hired where mediocre at best and would derail the business concept due to their own biases. Right now AI can't do it but by the time this business os up it can. And for the foreseeable future the AI CEO's need to be trained/coached/supervised according to the industry or technology or service they are in. So there is lots of room for multiple companies with specific strength and support networks.
I have an idea, but I'm getting it off the ground right now ;) i hope i can share it here in a month once it gains traction and I bring more people into it.
Idea one is incredible.
What about personalized eccommerce chatbot?
It will save data from each purchase and coversation and is able to reccommend or answer questions about products?
Tokenization of real world assets via blockchain technology is EXACTLY how you do the first business idea you listed, and I believe that’s 100% where we’re going! Everything can be tokenized, listen to Larry Fink speak on this!
Yes, but there are two HUGE obstacles:
1. Technological failures e.g. it's just really damn hard to make it trustworthy (hence my comment about rugpulls)
2. Regulatory oversight e.g. so that you have legal recourse in case of rugpulls
Love the personalized AI entertainment idea..I'd sign up for that.big sci-fi fantasy gamer here..somebody do it 🎉
Hey Dave, are you working in any agi framework righ now ? what happened to agentswarm discord serve ?
They went private. The Agent Forge guys released a recent update.
I am working on idea 2, which to me makes a logical crawl/walk/run strategy into idea 1. When you can prove the tech validation, problem/solution fit, and product/market for idea 2 (i.e. AI agents start a company from soup to nut and self-correct via feedback loops); you can then update the articles of incorporation, corporate bylaws, operating agreements, Ks and Qs (heck why not daily financials even?) to be structured in a DAO that mirrors your legal structure with the state comptroller/franchise tax board/SEC.
Now, can the meeting minutes between my agent swarms count towards my annual board meeting requirement? 😃
I feel like you are waking up in the middle of the night with these excellent thoughts and just getting them on video before they dissipate. I should do that. Tomorrow.
Sometimes, but sleep is important.
Dave, do you think that the Mondragon model is transparent enough, with sufficient documentation to be a useful starting point in creating agentic functions for an AI operated DAO?
It's a good start
@@DaveShap - I have quite a bit of this kind of organisational data archived. Please can you remind me of the github page that you organised to curate all this kind of info?
I love the idea AI CEO😊
I'm not sure about the "bespoke entertainment" idea. I don't think that's something I would use much myself. But maybe I'll eat my words in a few years.
If human labor adds little value, if real power is in a small percentage of hands, and if robots/ AI becomes Robocop (patrols the streets) ... then we have a problem.
Civilization is developing, intelligence is developing, and this should allow people to free themselves from the shackles of labor and finally begin to build the upper levels of the pyramid of needs: personal growth, finding true meanings, self-fulfillment and self-realization through creativity, which is not dictated by market demands, but which comes from the depths of the soul. Fear of robocops/terminators, fear of radical novelty are natural for people. But people must overcome their fear, because fear is a mind killer which prevents civilization from taking the next evolutionary step.
Yep. AI = societal collapse.
Idea 1 is XRPL with AMM and tokenizations as securities.

Not sure why people think hardware is harder. It’s much less of a moving target. Once you get something working, you don’t need to continue struggling with the product development. Software is a never ending battle to keep up with the moving target of technological change, which continues to accelerate.
LLMs can write code all day. Not so much hardware
Considering businesses to start begins by addressing the question, "Broadly speaking, what can AI do?" For example:
1. Generalize research
2. Summarize an information set
3. Analyze data
4. Create (programming, images, etc.)
5. Act via enabled robotics or telecommunication system
What's missing from this list is a critical performance, 6. Reason.
So many people chasing making something for the masses and hoping it will blow up. Why not find small use cases for our specific business / our current company? This reduces complexity and realistically can be something that really make money.

I somewhat agree with your stance on idea 5, but I'm gonna have to go against your better judgment on this one. There are technologies that people will need to counter a potential opressive power. If it's not open and available to more hands, then it would lead to crushing control by the opposing force.
Plus, these entities are already going to be making these technologies with or without us individuals with more well-meaning intentions. So its best to get ahead of them on robotics and ensure the people have some abilities to keep the reins on these governement and military agencies.
Please no subscription models. They are predatory in nature, force the customer to keep on paying even if inactive for periods.
These are fantastic ideas. #1 particularly, and I wonder if (if set up correctly) it could be a viable alternative to UBI? So instead of being employed by a company, you simply have a steak in it instead... some food for thought 🤔💭
It's how you fund UBI. You just make everyone a stakeholder.
There are a ton of blockchains with their own coins that want to tokenize businesses exactly as you're saying so it already existed and it's just not being utilized that well
Wow, personlized novels 🤯 I have been struggling to find sci-fi that fits my brain for years now.. The perfect sci-fi for me is like the first moments of first contact /or amazing new technology, the excitement and mystery of not really knowing everything but still have the gut feeling of an amazing things in the very near future.. Much like how I feel about AI these days :) I would like a sci-fi universe that focuses on the first like 150 years of human expansion into the solar system, from the first moon base, to the first colony in the asteroid belt, space stations around Neptune.. asf.. Hard sci-fi without the "magic" of say for example Star Wars.
1.Something quite simple: a silicone 'adult' robot that you combine with vr goggles and see a whatever favourite person in front.
2. personal brain scan device. You talk to AI and describe your emotions, feelings, things you think, imagine etc and it starts to understand you based on brain activity and suggest personalised entertainment.
3.personal blood test laboratory.
4.biased AI political figure/magazine
5.unbiased AI judge
I have a business idea for robots in the future, which would be to invest in an advanced humanoid robot and then to send him to do jobs to earn back the money within like 2-3 years and then you start earning money for the investment and also when it wont be doing jobs outside it would come back to your home to do cleaning and cook food and what not so it would even still be useful for the investor, also another idea is to create a 3rd party umbrella company for those looking for jobs for their owned humanoid robots and employers looking to find such robots of people that would be able to work.
The future is about tokenized Dematerialized Commodity, not Security
I'd settle for an AI book/music/movie recommendation system that really worked. Whatever algorithms Amazon and NetFlix use to make suggestions, they are terrible. I'd rather AI took a deep and contemplative dive into my favorite media and surfaced genuinely intelligent and insightful recommendations. @@Jeremy-Ai you'd need to be transparent for sure.
And you'd need to adapt as the tech adapts.
You'd also have to give it basic goals and aims(do the least harm, etc...)
The way I see it is that in the UK we vote for a person, not a party, so just as any politician votes normally with their party whip but has the option to abstain where they feel personally compromised by the party line, an Ai representing mp would retain the right not to vote if they could not stomach the ai's political choice.

I suspect the personalised entertainment is going to be a mixed bag. It’ll automate away the “empty calories” end of entertainment, but will make it even more meaningless to make any of it. Like, ok, elevator or shopping mall music can be automated… and similarly a part of a movie soundtrack that doesn’t matter could be automated… or at least assisted… but no one is going to automate, say, the Imperial March in Star Wars or “What Could Have Been” at the end of Arcane.
Floor level AI aisstant...one for every willing worker. All information feeds into the Hive AI CEO...movement, decisions, updates, errors, downtime, neural/audio/visual/written, etc... Automatic efficiency assessment and continous improvement...Eliminate most middle managers who primarily collate and curate information. Take all middle manager salaries and reward floor level workers and keep them all AI onboard.
I am in the middle of developing this. 6:57 to the end
You know what would be cool? A new Foundation to hold annually the Artificial Intelligence Olympics. Categories for narrow and general intelligence models. The medals would be for competitions such as: mathematical skills, logic and reasoning, text translation, coding, gamming, general knowledge... it would be very interesting and someone could even make money with it.
There are probably competitons like that alredy, but now is the perfect time for a big event like that to happen.
I am not a computer science guy, so I cant make it, but someone in this field could.
I do find it cool too
Will this be the same as ”robot olympics”? Because it would be more cool for me to see robots advance faster in a robot race while seeing what they are really capable of.
@@aciidbraiin8079 Sure. There could be competitions for embodied AIs too.
Without the Military or Porn, I think there would be limited advancements in the world, So it would seem military applications are a necessary part of AI advancement. Besides, People can be just as cold, calculating and remorseless as any algorithm ever could be. Maybe, just maybe, the AI robot warriors could be made to be hyper specific in it's killing of combatants. Only killing the actual fighters and not innocent civilians. With no fear of death for the robot, it can take the added time (which could be milliseconds) to ensure it's only targeting aggressors and not innocent people. Like bombs have gotten smarter, maybe our guns and bullets could be too(and the shooters of those guns and bullets)
Whilst I see the appeal of personalised entertainment it'd be an echo chamber that inhibits personal growth. If I'd climbed into such a thing I'd never have discovered Vietnamese pop music, Tibetan crystal singing bowls and Mongolian throat music. Instead I'd still be listening to Madonna!
I can see a futur where you will only have to tell an ai agent to start a business, you give him a couple hundreds dollars and he will start making money on his own. Having a business will be so easy.. i wonder what the repercussions will be.
Everyone will do it so it will be super competitive

Idea #1: Sounds like 'Community based economics' 👍 How many of those 5M businesses will still exist once AI is widely adopted? I know that is a moot point in relation to the concept, I'm just curious. I can see a scenario where there are significantly fewer, like millions fewer. If that holds true there would be far fewer local businesses to invest.
Idea #3: Interesting concept, I can certainly see that industry. As to what might be ready now, very young childrens' books. LLM can already create, write, and generate images for short form childrens' books.
My idea: Life Experiences entertainment - Ability to experience being a rock star on a stage with a stadium full of fans screaming your name, or walking on the moon, or... you get the point.
At the end of the day, MFA (First Mover Advantage) is not as valuable in the sense of viability as one may think. Execution is everything! i.e. There are heeps of chicken restaurants, but is you can execute you can be successful opening another one... or two.
On #3.
I'm convinced that we are not far from having never ending sitcoms. Sit on your couch, load your favorite streaming service, hit play on friends and watch fully generated episodes that keep coming out never repeating.
And it watches your reaction and steers the story and characters just for you.
@@DaveShapI seriously think biofeedback while watching content or playing games will be literal data gold in the near future. Think a horror experience that measures heart rate, pupil dilation, eye motion, skin moisture, blood pressure, brain activity etc. and tailors the experience to your type of fear. Ok, I got mixed feelings about it
Personalized virtual reality, like in Matrix ^^'
I completely disagree with your last point. You need robots, you need it if you need AI to have a real world impact beyond online aplications. If you have a working model / machine(robot) that can do a task consistently better than humans, you can scale that up continuously and you are all set. My first idea will be automating heavy equipment operation. Tractors and farming equipment. Drones are versatile, they can do military surveillance, but also serve the police, environment agancies and private business. Where you need to survey an area, an AI operated drone that can identify if something is wrong or if not cover a large area and give an all clear report is a cheap and elegant solution. Btw, I think your local securities market idea is brilliant.
Idea #3 im pretty sure netflix and co dont want to be the new blockbusters, so they're probably gonna have gen entertainment, but it will be filled with obvious to subtle influences. I really hope to be in charge of what i and my kids will watch, so ill use transparent and privacy focused, ideally opensource, trusted, and pay providers that run it.
These are neat ideas but you're not thinking big enough imo...
Education, tutoring and training done right with AI could transform all forms of learning overnight, accelerating everything you mentioned here at the same time.
I didn't mention that because it's ultra obvious and going to happen organically - and it's already saturated.
@@DaveShap Yess, I thought the combative tone might get a reply 😅
Yeah you're right, it's definitely pretty well saturated, though I feel like you'd have a unique angle worth exploring...
Budding entrepreneurs need to stop ideating on these types of ideas.
It's honestly harmful for anyone unless youre on the MIT, Google Intern career track.
If you're not on that professional track, you need to focus on service based businesses.
From that you gain market exposure, and inevitably find product market fit for some AI SaaS.

No, disabled.
9:17 Thank you for the content but I would have to say my heroes in both music and film would disagree completely with you. And so would I. Maybe in the next few generations once art has been taken over completely by monetary incentives. I could see kids growing up in this world and accepting it simply because they haven't been exposed to anything else. But is that better for society in general? Because US has embraced some technologies we already see more than other countries that the level of education of the general population is simply higher because they have held onto values and their culture. Back when I went to high school, I was taking AP math courses but they had to make special AP courses that were beyond college-level for the Russian freshmen coming in.
Disability benefits for being mildly autistic ?????
AI is missing wisdom. I'm not sure it will ever get it no matter how powerful you make it. To achieve wisdom you need to be connected to god / higher intelligence and for that, you need to be CONSCIOUS
Wisdom will give you game-changers. Anything like AI that's stuck in the material realm can only remix things in the material realm
You are right, but current models as they are today can be leveraged in a way to enhance the wisdom and direction of those who use them. For instance, and I'm going to be very broad, if you have an idea, the AI can help you formulate your idea, can help you train to get the necessary skills to bring up your idea, can help you identify experts who could help you to bring onto your team, and with these subject matter experts using the AI, can guide it with more precision and understanding to keep moving towards your idea.
Search engines have us access to information, but quick retrieval and correlation, even at the current level where AI is allows building momentum towards a goal, like humans can only do so much with the time we have, but the momentum comes in instantaneous retrieval of relevant information.
@totoroben Yes, I don't doubt that when someone gets a light-bulb moment AI and existing tech can aid and supercharge the implementation of said idea. I just can't see AI coming up with these light-bulb moments, yes it will spot patterns which massively helps with research. The advances will be significant given today's automation tech can now be supercharged.
The music AI has come up with are remixes at a finer granular level than your conventional track remix. It doesn't tap into fresh emotional wisdom and originality. This appears to only come from God/ higher intelligence.
This is arbitrary anthropocentrism and human exceptionalism. It will not age well.
@DaveShap I don't only attribute it to humans. There may very well be advanced species throughout the universe. My view is they've advanced because they're conscious and therefore connected to a greater intelligence/god.
Disclaimer
My version of god is not a Zeus-like patriarchal daddy dictator like most of the churches would have you believe.
Politicians as a service? Going by the UKs new Guidelines you're a terrorist for even suggesting that. Saying that, AI has the potential to be better at politics than humans. Woops! MI5's gonna kick down my door any minute now!

what is this small kind of guitar on the shelf? (near the youtube award/logo)
A stick-tar thing. Picked it up on vacation. It's tuned to a single chord so it's fun to just pluck on.
