This is the man who convinced me to put down the electric and pic up my acoustic and find my soul. That was 14 years ago and I have so much success thanks to this mans inspiration. Thank you Kelly Joe Thank you Thank you Thank you.
How beautifully they put forth that grievous tune. The atmosphere they create is serene. Concentration and perfect coordination characterize the performance from the beginning to the end. Excellent.
@bloodyfrets I'm glad I'm not the only one who has found Kelly Joe Phelps and found his music to be 'magical'. It's folk, blues, singer-songwriter, old style country, and so many other styles that it has become something of it's own. Tunesmith Retrofit is my favorite album of his. Now I've been inspired to learn to play fingerstyle guitar like him and write songs in the same vein. No, I will never be the player he is but if I can entertain my family, I'll be a happy man.
seeing these guys next week, cant wait. Long time fan of KJP and seen him solo and with and Carlos De Junco live before but i am stoked for hearing this beautiful beautiful pairing in he flesh. Such a gorgeous compliment to each other both vocally and instrumentally.
Saw KJP in a solo performance in Salt Lake City last week. It was an absolutely wonderful show. I can't wait to see him perform again. The music he creates comes directly from the soul.
@guitarbenn58 The first seconds I saw your comment I had the feeling I wrote it! I too went deep into so much music for years and I reached a point when nothing was exciting like the "old days" ....and then Kelly Joe came
@guitarbenn58 Haha same here! Just ask my electric guitar! After 15 years of beating it gets to rest in the case for long periods. The acoustic is not that lucky though... ; )
going over the mountain, up through the water that pulls me underground, going over the mountain, hold to my sweet Audrey. door open wide inside a shadow, window looking out at night, bag of bones in a boxcar of wine, losing years, losing time. snowing hard along the fences, winter, wilder, bitter feud. spinning ‘round all my crumbling fears, ever falling. I’m leaving here. hole, or a gate, line down the pathway. a fire, or hiding out with fools. I’d rest, again, on a bed where she lies, a kinder soldier to hear the wise up in a turn, an arm around me, despite a hollow, fallen moon. I’m making miles, there’s a light on my face, in all this thunder, a warm embrace. I’m going over the mountain, up through the water that pulls me underground, I’m going over the mountain, hold to my sweet Audrey.
RIP Kelly Joe. You continue to touch peoples hearts and souls.

I was fortunate enough to having had Kelly Joe on one of my tours - in 2011 ... (in THIS line-up with the angelous Corinne West!)

Had the pleasure of hearing Kelly Joe and what a gifted artist and thoroughly nice guy to talk to.

If the Feeling of hope could be expressed in music, then this is surely it.
