    Personally, I like Ynot's style 10x more than Yass's. Ynot's smoothness is unparalleled. But that doesn't mean that Ynot is better than Yass on a universal spectrum. Sure, by majority, most of us may think that Ynot is better than Yass, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the judgement of this battle.
    Yass has his own style and to me, it's more old school. I personally don't fancy it, but, looking at this battle through a judge's perspective, I'm not surprised that Born chose Yass. It's not like Yass wasn't covering the basics of Toprock. He was on beat, on point, executed well, had burns, uprocked, and had an aggressive attitude. Ynot had more of a "have fun" attitude, which is fine, but he lacked burns and had his eyes faced down most of the time. I'm not saying that Born didn't have a bias decision, but I'm sure Born has judged enough to pay attention to the logistics of a battle.
    And like Ynot said, it's all good.

    Yo, what yall not gettin is that BURNS are for UPROCKING, not toprocking, they are 2 completely different dances. Sure, people have incorporated burns into their tops, however they should NOT be a deciding factor in a toprock battle. This judging was wrong, plain and simple. This competition is supposed to fly out america's best representative in toprocking, and i fear the judge has failed to allow us to do that.

    I seriously would like to hear Born's words on why he felt Ynot lost. If majority of the b-boy community agree that he won, then what did he see that we didn't? Seriously hoping someone would approach him about that but without being judgmental or hostile

    Yass did well, but not as well as Ynot. Ynot not only had musicality, but he also used a wide variety of moves, maintained a high constant energy, and utilized different levels, too. Yass's first round was really good, but then he started repeating too much and his toprock wasn't as energetic. As much as I respect Born, I am unable to respect his decision on this battle.

    Juste Debout, you seem like a big bboy competition, yet you run things like amateurs. Want to eliminate bias and have fair judging? Don't allow crews to enter a battle where the judges are in the same crew. Simple as that.

    • @NastyLouTV
      @NastyLouTV Před 10 lety +2

      it's not simple like that, cos it's their rights to enter the battle, and if a competition prohibit some cats with the same crew with the judge to enter the battle, it seems that the competition didn't want that people to win, and it's not fair again hahaha... so my opinion is having the OG's such as Mr. Wiggles , Ken Swift, Crazy legs, Swift Rock or the other Piooner as the judge and again, it needs more than one, so the desicion will be more Legit

    • @djmane1
      @djmane1 Před 10 lety +5

      It is that simple, if you want the competition to be fair and un-bias. It's up to the promoter to make that decision.

      @VoItageJoe Před 10 lety

      Nasty Lou You guys are looking at this jam in a bad way. This is one of the greatest jams out there and you guys are dogging at it because of one battle? There are a lot of jams, that have a judge and a group from the same crew. There is nothing to be biased about, You guys look at it to be "biased." I'd love to see you judge in this sort of jam. I would love to see you do it, because you wouldn't succeed in it, because most of the time I know damn well you guys wouldn't even know what you are doing. When it really isn't. You guys are proven to be amateurs in the scene, if you are dogging on the net. come on

    • @djmane1
      @djmane1 Před 10 lety +3

      Joe Eazy And it only takes one battle to tarnish the rep of one of the greatest jams out there. I'm not saying judging is easy, but I do know that if you want to eliminate people from saying things like "bias" or "unfair", take the things away that only promote it, like the same crew scenario. Then, and only then, will no one call you out, if in fact, there is a discrepancy with the decision.

    • @VoItageJoe

    Yass won the tiebreaker for me but Ynot definitely won the first 2 rounds in my opinion. In terms of musicality, both were good but Yass' was a bit more unique at the cost of flow in the first round. Ynot's variety of footwork was definitely on point for me but his toprock focused a lot on indian step instead of actual "rocking" which may have played a role in Born's decision. I think what it boiled down to (in terms of the first 2 rounds) were Yass' unique musicality and fidelity to foundation ("rocking") versus Ynot's flow and footwork variety with musicality more focused on beat-hitting. Again, if I were judging I would have gone with Ynot, but i respect Born's decision, and there's a reason why he was chosen to judge. But then again, no two judges look for the same thing, which is why I think there should have been more than one. (Anyone care to explain why there was only one judge??)

    I feel like Yass shouldn't have won because he did a lot of things that should have made him lose(in my opinion), like in his first round (in my opinion) he kept breaking his flow, and he did a lot of that same side step, and I feel that ynot should have won because he did different moves, it was more clean, and hit the beat just as hard as Yass if not harder(in my opinion). I think Ynot should have won because of his smooth continuous flow of a variety of different moves. But that's just my 2sense, everyone should respect the judges.

  • @seymourglass26
    @seymourglass26 Před 10 lety +11

    While I know that pretty much every judge (especially at this level) has more experience and knowledge than me (and I know judging ain't easy), I think Born had seriously dropped the ball. Yass is hugely dope, but YNot destroyed the first two rounds, so Yass really only won after a bunch of bogus ties. I mean, the whole battle was Yass getting stronger with YNot fading until their paths crossed, so all this indecisiveness was bullshit. That said, this was at least twice as cool as the real finals. Next time, bring more than one judge, seriously.

    • @BushidoBoyd
      @BushidoBoyd Před 10 lety

      The key difference is that Yass was doing more burns and YNot was getting really intricate on the beat. Maybe born preferred the burns.

      YNOT was toprocking, Yass was mostly uprocking...it's a Toprock battle...burns are not that significant in a toprock battle but intricate footwork on the top and dancing to the beat is. There are a loooot of people in here that don't know the history or dance of both.

    • @licriss
      @licriss Před 10 lety

      I think even the intricate footwork thing is a bit disputed too though at least when compared with Rocking. Yass had a larger variety of handstyles and flow changes over Ynot but the burns were awkward and so were some of the angles, Ynot had the footwork by far but both of them were doing heaps of Rockin and not so much Toprockin so if you stripped it down you'd get like. From what I get of what was happening around the early 70s was mostly simple steps but big style and everybody looked different but that was before it was even called Toprockin so how do you judge that shit really it has to be opinion you can't black and white something that's grown in the way this dance has.

    For ever person that is criticizing the judging decision by born.
    Every person will have a bias. It's impossible not to be bias because depending on your own experiences you will ultimately think in that faction. By saying the judging was imprecise you've basically said that your own biased opinion is of more value than that of the judge. You've also laid claim to the fact that your biased knowledge of bboying is higher than that of the judge.
    born's bias is that he values musicality more than anything else. So even though a bboy might bring a ton of fresh moves, if born doesn't see great musicality to supplement that he won't be as impressed. he would rather see basic moves done properly to the music. Because born's experience as a bboy is totally different from yours, you are basically complaining about two separate things. it's like arguing over what tastes better, Coke or Pepsi?

As far as i know battle mentality is something strictly important to real hiphop battles, especially with the MZK-ers, every battle should be done right like it's on the street, not just simply a competition.

      Yep. I understand that. Everyone has different styles. I've followed a lot of these guys for years. It's one thing to say there's different styles. But....come on, man. lol Good hipster answer, but we all know you know the deal, buddy. The boos say it all.

    No disrespect towards Yass but YNOT had way more vocab and he was way more sharper. Respect to both.

You dont have burns in top rock! uprocking yes there are burn... brooklyn rock there are burns.. top rock no burns! much respect to all, keep hip hop alive!

    Ynot should have won, Yas first set round was good but the last 2 rounds not so good. he did repeat moves. Ynot had more of a variety.
    it's not good to have one judge for battles... It's better to have 3 or 5 or at least 2... born is a good dancer, i respect him, but his decision was not good...

    How can we respect a judgement that is obviously bias. There's something bigger here than "Respect the judges." No! We will not accept unfair treatment because we work hard to earn our skills. No one should turn a blind eye to that! Ynot was graceful, but the majority of the BBOY COMMUNITY will not forget this nor shall they feel compelled to attend an event that doesn't honor fair competition. When a referee makes a horrible call that costs a team the game, he is either banned or fined heavily. Where is the restitution here?

    Well, that was an obvious win for Ynot clearly much better in every way. Yass looks too stiff, Ynot is flowing.

    Lmfao I've been watching all these judge debout us vids and have noticed the controversial judge's decision, and not the judges' decision. That is where this whole jam goes wrong, having one judge who was obviously for his boy Yass. I am a fan of born and throughout the jam he's been makin calls so that his boy can take the win. In this battle he knew he had to make a draw because Ynot was so on point. C'mon man, this is why having one judge in General is dangerous, there is only one source to rely the winner on and not everyone will agree.
