In this Gear4music demo we take a closer look at the Dave Smith Instruments Prophet Rev2 16 Voice Analog Poly Synth.
The Dave Smith Instruments Prophet Rev2 16 Voice Analog Poly Synth is a professional-grade polyphonic analog synthesizer featuring 16 voices with two DCOs per voice.
The rich and vibrant sound engine of the Rev2 features resonant Curtis filters as well as boasting a new range of upgrades and enhancements. Building on the success of the original, the Dave Smith Prophet Rev2 Analog Synth now introduces polyphony to its synthesizer, ushering in a new world of creative options for the digital musician.
The Prophet Rev2 also features a brand-new polyphonic step sequencer built-in that allows up to 64 steps and up to 6 notes per step.
The crisp OLED display provides visual feedback on all parameters and control, with the premium-quality semi-weighted keybed providing fluid playability. - Hudba
Really nice demo, thank you.
Very good demo! Good choice of patches, excellent audio and well played!
Yes, came here to say this, but YEAH you're RIGHT.
thanks to this vid I immediately purchased one after watching
I probabbly have to get that synth...only worked with software before 😎
I have it, and I love it. Thank you for your outstanding engineering, Dave!
You think it's worth it ? Presets are good (I love using presets)

Thanks man !!
Do you think it's a good thing to get the desktop version or woud you go for the complete stuff ?
honestly the desktop version willl be good enough, along with a solid midi controller. i have the keyboard version, but i would be happy with either or.
Thanks ! Yeah but wich midi controller has a good synth action and is portable ?
I have it too and love the polyphonic sounds. It is the perfect harmonic combination to my Sub37. One downside is, working with the build in sequencer is a pain. You definitely need either soundtower or codeknops Software to visualize the gated or poly sequencer. But hey, this is no reason for not getting it!!!
ahhh, I was thinking of pairing this with my Sub37 too. Both classics!
I only recently discovered this video of your demo...I'm blown away by your skill at the keys! You inspire me to play like your able to do with this REV 2 Not sure if you've done a Moog one demo, but you should!
There's alot , thank God of great resources now with CZcams. But not many that showcase a talented keyboard player! Thank you, and interested in how long you've been playing?
heads up. some moog one videos were added a few days ago.
My favorite sounds on this demo was the bras sound and the sound after that bras. They really kick. I have also this instrument and may say that it has a chaotic compilation of preset sounds. But that also demonstrates the huge possibilities of sounds this polyphonic analog machine does have. There was many sound that did not inspired me, but others did inspired me. It can also sound very close to a prophet 5. You just have to now to adjust the oscillators and filters in the right way to get that warm and rich sound.
How do you find it on fx and noisy stuff? I'm thinking of getting a more pricey polysynth and am curious if I would have any use for my Neutron still, which I picked up mainly for weird effects and textures.
Bras
I’ve watched every demo on Rev2 I could find and none of them show much knob tweaking at all. The joy of a synth like this is in tweaking those knobs constantly. This is by far the best one I’ve found. Also would like to see someone manually making sounds on the fly as well subtracting voices and adding. So much to explore beyond just the presets.

Really incredible opening for this video - are those chords from a song or some theme, or just improvising?
Either way, they’re fucking amazing
I was thinking about buying the ob - 6 but fuck this thing SOUNDS AMAZING !
Tomas Dominguez Tomas Dominguez I was keen on the OB-6 as well, but after listening to some hundred YT vids, I went for the Rev2 - and have not regretted my decision for a split second. Yes, the Rev2 sounds AMAZING, it has 5 vs. 4 octaves and 16 bs. 6 voices. Although OB6/P6 may have a slight edge in live situations, the Rev2 is the REAL BEAST.
They are completely different machines. The P6 and OB6 are less about being powerhouses, and more about offering vintage poly tone (and with it the lack of modulation), with more modern stability. The Rev2 is much more modern (though it does a good p5 too), but programming it is much more involved. The trade off though is three extra LFOs, an extra envelope, delay on all the envelopes, waveshaping, sequencing, and a much more stout modulation matrix. People bitch about the DCOs, but if you are buying a prophet, or an Oberheim for that matter, you aren't looking for a Memorymoog. The oscs in the rev2 sound fantastic, and once the sweet spot of the filter is dialed in, it is indistinguishable from a VCO.
Iam sold I ve been debating prologue or prophet you can do so much more with the prophet I am a korg man but this time I am going with the prophet
Recently purchased this synth, I can not get remotely close to the anything you played 😂
Any VST for this?
Arturia Prophet V3
Two hands player, In between 8 or 16 voices, any suggestions?
Raff 16. There is a lot of patches and presets that get stacked and split and you end up effectively only being able to use half the voices, making the 8 voice feel like 4 and in turn the 16 sound like 8.
Do the presets have names or just numbers?
The presets do have names
very entertaining names
Names with numbers and no emojis.
*And they have Parents too ;)*
This or the p6?
Sound quality or features?
I want the p6 this sounds a bit digital. I have virus ti and prophet 12. P6 sounds unreal
Can't get the P62 sound that fat.
Maybe stop focusing on useless things like fatness and focus on the musical side of things. Fatness will not substitute poor sound design and hopelessly bland arrangements.
dash3dot 😄. Lol. Brutal.
If we talk of the Prophet 6, it does not sound fat enough for me. The pro 16 rev 2 I much better.
