    I am having trouble adding an executive assistant position that is like the one in this presentation. Where they report to the Town Manager but the Town manager is over the department heads but not under the executive assistant. It is really the LINE that I would like to change so that the line goes from Town Manager to the Department Heads but doesn't make the Executive Assistant ( and the Town Clerk actually) over the department heads. They essentially all report to the Town Manager but the Executive Assistant and the Town Clerk are part of his department and those two positions are not above the Dept. heads in the hierarchy. How do I reflect this?

    • @SharonSmith
      @SharonSmith  Před 4 lety

      Hi Lanie! Have you downloaded my Org Chart template? If so, looking at slide 2, you could use something like that because the Exec Asst has a line out indicating they report up but the department heads have lines reporting to the head of the org chart. If you need to add a second box for Town Clerk (similar to Exec Asst) you can do so by hitting enter after the Exec Asst bullet/arrow in the text window of the org chart (assuming you used SmartArt, when you select it, the text window should pop out to the left for you to edit). This should add a second box on the opposite side of the chart indicating these two positions report up, but not over the other direct reports. An alternate option would be to draw a box out to the side if it makes sense to free-form draw it. I hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching my videos! Good luck with your chart.

    Hi Sharon, @sharonSmith
    I probably won't get this answered soon but, how do I create separate high level org charts on one page? Is that possible? In healthcare there are admin and nursing under one department. How do I display that one one slide?

    • @SharonSmith
      @SharonSmith  Před rokem +1

      Hello! There are probably a few ways to do this. You can have two SmartArt charts on one slide as you can resize them. Or you can do more of a free form chart with two vertical hierarchies to show the two org structures under one main department. I am working on a new org chart video and will use this example as how to create custom charts. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching my videos and subscribing to my channel! • @SharonSmith
      @SharonSmith  Před 4 lety

      Hi Anj! Yes, you sure can do this. Have you downloaded my free template? If so, simply click on the Controller box and you'll see the SmartArt "Type your text here" window should appear to the left. Place your cursor after Name under Controller and hit Enter, then hit Tab (you'll notice hitting enter adds a new box and then hitting tab places that box as a direct report to the Controller). You may need to use your keyboard arrows to move the box into proper alignment but you should be able to do this for both the Controller and Financial Analyst so they can both have direct reports on that org chart. Hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching. Good luck!

    I have 3 persons on the board on the top layer , rather than just one on top.
    How can i do that with the Smart Art
    Appreciate your help
    Eric

    • @SharonSmith
      @SharonSmith  Před 3 lety

      Hi Eric! If you are creating a SmartArt hierarchy org chart, select the top box of your org chart and you should see the SmartArt Design tab at the top. From that sub-tab, you should see on the left a section for "Create Graphic" and there is a drop-down "Add Shape" - click on that and select "Add Shape After" and that will add a box to the right of the top box. Then select the top box again and select the "Add Shape" drop-down again and select "Add Shape Before." This will add a box to the left of the top box so now you have three boxes on the top line of the org chart. Then go to "Insert > Shapes" and select a straight line and draw a line between the boxes to connect them. This will give you a top line with three connected boxes. As a different option, you can always simply type all three board member names in the one top box, making it larger if you want to try that. Hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching my videos!

    What border did you use to color code your slides with the first slide?

    • @SharonSmith
      @SharonSmith  Před 4 lety

      Hi Kay! To create the color border on the PowerPoint slides, I simply inserted a rectangle shape on the right hand side of my slide and selected a matching color for the fill and line of that rectangle. In order to match that same color, I captured the R-G-B value. If you are not sure what this is, please checkout this video on how to match colors across MS Office: czcams.com/video/H1COww5Y0c4/video.html. To match that border color to the org chart boxes, I selected the box, right clicked and selected format shape, line, solid fill, color drop down, more colors, custom tab and then inserted the appropriate number values for Red/Green/Blue. I hope this answers your question. If not, please let me know. I appreciate your taking time to watch my videos! Take care.

      Main light (best option for me): amzn.to/3KKDfe9
      Softbox: amzn.to/3ibXS6K
      I like this light because of the quality build that lasts, and it is super quiet. This light has been within 3 feet of a microphone and no fan noise was picked up by the audio.
      Here are two other options, I recently purchased. They have great quality light, but noticeable fan noise so could not be near a mic. These are less expensive options:
      amzn.to/36hMiEv
      amzn.to/3MSwWqP
      If you are interested, I also recently purchased background color panel lights, that can be set to any color you want. They have some fan noise, but I have them about 6 feet away from the mic and it is not an issue: amzn.to/3IeyW9x
      These are affiliate links so if you click and make a purchase, I may receive a commission.
      If you are looking for a good quality light, the main light I use (above) is great and you won’t be disappointed.
      I also use fill cards to bounce light when needed. I use these:
      amzn.to/3MSwWqP
      amzn.to/3wa0N8j
      I hope this helps you out! Thanks for watching my videos!

    • @SharonSmith
      @SharonSmith  Před 2 lety

      Hi Ryan - when using SmartArt, you should be able to select a box and since it is within the SmartArt design, that text pane should appear. If it has been closed, you'll see a small arrow anchor icon on the left side that you can click, and it should expand that text pane again. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching my videos!

      Hi Stan! I assume you mean the quick formatting tool that appears when text is selected? If so, you can turn that on or off by going up to File - Options - General Tab and check the box for "Show Mini Toolbar on selection." It should be checked/on by default, but maybe not. If this is not what you were asking, please let me know. Hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching my videos. Take care!

      Hello! If you are using SmartArt for your org chart and then you went to Design tab, slide size and selected 11x17, it should give you the option to either maximize, or ensure fit. Either option should still allow you to select and edit your SmartArt chart. I hope this helps - thanks for watching!

    • @SharonSmith
      @SharonSmith  Před 4 lety +1

      Hello! When your cursor is in the "Type your text here" window to the left of the SmartArt box, you should be able to hit enter to create a new bullet (that adds a new org chart box) and then hit Tab to indent the bullet (which adds the direct report box underneath). If your cursor is in the actual box on the org chart, hitting tab won't work. An alternate way (not using the text window) to add boxes to the org chart is if you have the box selected where you want to add a direct report underneath, then go up to the "SmartArt Design" ribbon and look in the top left hand side in the Create Graphic tab where you see a drop-down called "Add Shape" - click the drop down arrow and click "Add shape below" and this will also be another way to add your org chart boxes. I hope this helps! Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks for watching!

    • @SharonSmith
      @SharonSmith  Před 4 lety

      Hi Tonya! If you are referring to the title slide elements that appear when you open a new blank PowerPoint, you can place your mouse over the border and click to select it and simply hit delete on your keyboard to have a completely blank slide to work with. If you need to clear out elements in the background of a PowerPoint template, you can go to "View" then "Slide Master" and delete any background elements you don't want and then "Close Master View" to go back to the normal view. Hope this helps! Thanks so much for watching my videos. Take care!

      Hi Maureen! In PowerPoint, you can draw a box by going to the Insert tab, select the "Shapes" drop down and select the rectangle and you can draw a box. If you already have boxes created on your chart, you can simply select one and copy and paste a new box (then the new box will have the same formatting/look).
