  • In this video, Clay Hebert and Jessica Corley of Lake Charles Toyota, demonstrates the optional fixed panoramic Star Gaze roof found on specific trim packages of the 2021 Toyota Venza Limited. Star Gaze is a panoramic glass fixed roof that can be switched from frosted to clear glass. When it’s in the clear state, it’s like any other panoramic roof. Whenever you like, you can switch it to the frosted state to cut down on UV rays and make it easier for the kids in back to take their naps. When the Venza is off, Star Gaze defaults to frosted. That cuts down on heat buildup inside the vehicle, and doesn’t draw power while the Venza is off. Clay and Jessica go a step further to explain how the glass works for those of you who are interested in the science of things.

I think it’s awesome. MB did it first, but Toyota perfected it. Great feature.

    Hello there, nice video.
Just to bring some information, the technology used in that panoramic roof is not electrochromic but PDLC.
Instead of ions migration, it uses liquid crystal that moves just like shutters when electric current goes through. It is either opaque or transparent while other technologies like Electrochromic or SPD are dimmable.

Thanks for the info. At the time we shot it, Toyota didnt release to us any "official" documentation on how it worked, so we did some google searching. Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) Tech is the official explanation. Good catch on that.

My only concern is what happens if there is hail? will it break? is too expensive to repair?

The roof is no more risk thank your windshield, but it is covered under your comprehensive auto insurance under the same coverage as your windshield, windows and other glass.

I don't really care about this feature. You have the sunshade so this is actually something redundant. I'd rather have an opening roof lack of which is a deal breaker for me and that's a pity as I love everything else about the car :(

You can get a Venza with a traditional sunroof rather than this Panoramic options. Thanks for watching.

    Sunroof please. Panoramic roof useless.

It’s a sunroof. Just not one that can be opened. It’s panoramic as well, so you get a great sky view. Makes car feel airy and large. Useless to you, but not anyone else.

@@alexnutcasio936 it just throws me off that they put the mid-pillar in the roof as if the front part were to open. Most of the time if the roof doesn’t open there’s no pillar. It’s a deal breaker for me cuz the old Venza was really nice with the panoramic roof open and the glass wind deflector popped up

This roof concept is stupid - what about a bunch of snow on top and when it's pouring rain? No thank you- just want a traditional moon roof. I would buy a Venza if it weren't for this. Auto designers really don't think!

This feature isn't standard on all Venzas, Nancy. Reach out to your nearest Toyota dealer for more information.

You can buy a Venza without this roof. Search is your friend.

I'm not understanding what is your concern with snow or rain and this roof? The only functional difference between this roof and a traditional moon roof is that this is fixed and the later can be opened. Do you open your roof when it is covered with snow or it is pouring raining?

Hmmm don’t get your concerns about snow? Rain? My complaint is it doesn’t have a dark tint but rather a frosted privacy glass. This is the wrong roof for Florida it’s radiates to much heat in the back seat where you are closer to the roof line.
