My question about MDS is how fast does it lead into AML without having any treatment at all? I used to be a Hospice Care nurse about 20 years ago. I'm not sure if I want to deal with all the chemotherapy (?). All I ever saw was a lot of my patients with leukemia die a lot quicker with chemo therapy.
Now years later I'm looking at a diagnosis of MDS myself. Mutation form. I've already been through a lot of idiopathic blood and bone marrow infections over the past several years now. Several infections were nearly fatal blood. I'm tired of being in the hospital about every other year.

Amy can you explain the relationship between chormosome deletions of 12p and 20q with the 5 letter codes you show in your presentation?
Thx I have MDS. Am going to Mayo in Az.

Hey Richard. Hope all is well. 12p and 20q deletions have nothing to do with the "5 letter codes" gene mutation. The deletions you have are considered good and will aid in assigning you in a specific risk group.
