Ms. Laura, considering I think of you as a friend, I’m so glad to see you wearing the hat, as a 76 year old West Texas gardener for many years, your face will thank you!
As will your eyes!
She’s called Laura. It would be Ms. Then her second name
And skin cancer. Which I have on my forehead and chest/shoulders!😊
Yes to the hat. Removal of skin cancer on your scalp is quite painful.
Her donning a hat will also encourage other gardeners to do it.❤
As someone whose family has dealt with skin cancer, I am so happy to see you wearing a hat!
Absolutely wear your hat! I HATE WEARING A HAT when I work in my garden. I hated having surgery on my nose to remove skin cancer even more. Wearing a hat in my hot, humid southeastern NC summer makes me incredibly hot. The alternative to wearing a hat is way worse. Cute hat by the way.
Me too! I started to be more diligent at wearing one too! I don’t like it.. but .. my first round of skin cancer has made me decide it was worth it!
I had Mohs surgery to remove cancer from my nose! Not a pretty sight (it healed well, though), but worth it to be cancer-free. I recommend wearing sunscreen (some make-up and moisturizers have 30 spf) and a hat (these can also be found with sun protection!). Avoid the sun between 10 and 4, and try to stay in the shade if you have to be outside then. :)
So glad you are going to put your Lyda Rose in the landscape. I worried about it’s placement when you put it in the cutting garden because mine (at least 20 years old) is about ten feet tall and wide. 😂 And absolutely gorgeous! One of my favorites.
Absolutely! My sister had face skin cancer in her 30's and my mom in her 60's. I am very diligent about my hat when I go out into the garden.
Fabulous to see you wearing a hat Laura, it looks great. I bet a branded hat would sell like hot cakes in your store 🧑🌾
I'd buy one!
I’d buy one!!
I can't even wear a visor. Not as hot as a hat but I guess I just can't.
I’d get one for sure!
Laura try finding a hat that breaths more. You will be so much more comfortable. I'm so proud of you for realizing that it is time to start taking precautions. Most people wouldn't care . Your gardens are gorgeous. 🤗💓💕💞
I’m really hot natured and wear a crownless hat! It also gives me room to put my hair in a top bun - way too much hair to leave it down and can’t stand a braid swinging around. Lol I’m one of those who could never leave it down like Laura but respect her choice, and hers is always pretty - not a frizz ball like mine would be here in Tennessee! 🤪
@@leapintothewild you have to keep the top of your head covered to some of my family have had sun cancer on their head. The sun is so much stronger than it used to be. It's just crazy how proactive you have to be now. 🤗💓
yes! The right hat can be more cool than no hat, no joke look at a gas station like 711, big straw hats for working out side.
The hat looks great! Your future self will thank you!!
Your garden just gets better and better and better. Its hard to decide which is my favourite area but one thing is for sure, that your channel is my favourite. Your happy personality and gorgeous garden are one of my daily treats. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Very well said! You’re as sweet as Laura ❤️
We are so lucky to be able to watch them!
I am so proud of you, Laura, for wearing a hat during the blazing summer heat!!! 💖
Word of warning: it doesn’t matter how strong you think you are, pulling trees or dead shrubs out of the ground can tear your rotator cuffs if you are not careful. Snug your elbows to your sides and pull with your leg muscles, or better yet, always use a shovel. Rotator cuff surgery is not fun. I had both done years ago.
Laura…thank you for wearing a hat! As a Melanoma survivor I can’t tell you how many times I’ve cringed seeing you out in the sun without one. I didn’t take UV protection super seriously until my diagnosis, surgery, and recovery. I applaud you, and your children will thank you someday! ❤
The tall boxwoods add definition and are placed perfectly! Looks perfect!!! Everything looks great! The pond looks wonderful. You, Aaron, Paul and Bethany and now the children all do a wonderful job. Thank you so much❤
As a Master Gardener here just north of Atlanta, one of the projects I worked on was at a local botanical garden in the Rose bed. Once a week several us would go thru and prune/deadhead, and do general cleanup. It was one of my favorite projects ever - I loved being among the many different varieties and fragrance. Very theraputic and good for soul. Your garden is an absolute oasis for you, friends & family - and I am most grateful you have chosen to share it all with us. Thanks for the info, encouragement and inspiration !!!
I had to get use to wearing a hat after getting skin cancer on my face in my mid-30's. Now I wear a hat every time I go outside for any length of time. I find that straw hats, though pretty, make my head sweat too much. My favourite hat for gardening is made by Outdoor Research. They are comfortable, breathable, and dries quickly when wet which is perfect as I also wear it in the pool.
Laura, I love the placement of the boxwoods. It really finishes off that area. 💚 And I love the hat on you!
When things are slow ( sometime) Would you, or Aaron , or Paul do a video of how you store all drills, bits, batteries, tools, in the barn. I know parts have been shown but with more and more of us viewers learning how much easier the job is with the correct tools, and getting the battery powered drills for "house, yard jobs" etc. It would help a lot. THANK YOU. Stay cool during this heat wave.
As much as I don't like seeing things not thrive in Laura's garden, it gives me faith that I'm not alone when something just doesn't thrive in my garden! Thank you for showing us not only the amazing successes in your garden, but also the things that don't work out so well.
So true!!
I vote yes for the Tower boxes on each side of your benches. I think that looks beautiful tidy and cozy. You’ve done it again Laura!!
You are a huge influence on those of us in the gardening world and your wearing a hat will make a big difference. Thank you!
Thanks for showing us when trees and shrubs die. I think it is important to know even experienced gardeners have expensive plants die.
The boxwoods make the bump outs more intentional...love it!
Thank you, Laura, for all the beautiful things you share with us. Far and away, my most favorite YT channel of all time. 🎉❤☕️
I live in Montana and I always wear a hat to garden so I'm so glad to see you wear one. The effect of the sun on your face over time ages the skin and the possibility of skin cancer is no joke. Beautiful rose garden and I think those trees in the parterre are perfectly placed and does make it look like a room.
I am sooo glad to finally see you in a hat!!! If it makes you feel hot, change to a different material. I have one that is part material with cut outs with mesh like material on it to allow air flow. I know you don’t tackle humidity but it also keeps the sweat from running into my eyes. Keep at it! You’ll get used to it and you’ll also find one you like! Btw- LOVE, LOVE the boxwood placement. 🤌🏼🤌🏼
Perfection! 😊♥️
Love this! Also, I love Laura wearing a hat now ❤ and taking a moment to smell her beautiful roses 🌹
I appreciate how you are willing to hold off planting until you are sure you have them where you want them! Great job with everything you did! May your tree survive!
So glad you are getting used to a hat….your skin is so important and you are exposed to relentless sun in this garden!! And!! Those tall boxwood you set out behind the glass house are AMAZING!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
So happy to see you in a hat. Your future self will thank you .❤
Adding my voice to the chorus who are so happy to see you protecting your eyes and face from the sun more proactively. Don’t stop! The hat is adorable.
Laura I am really pleased to see you wearing a hat. I wear one when I am out in the garden even though I hate them and don't think I look in them. They do keep the harsh sun off your face and that is really important.
My jaw dropped when I saw the pond. It looks fantastic! Can't wait for the dream stream!
I love your hat and happy you are wearing it so you can protect your skin. The roses look so happy now. The area around the pond is so beautiful and peaceful, just love it. Your tall boxwoods make the area around the Hartley look so different. Have a blessed day everyone.
Laura the roses look better, and I love that you're wearing a hat. My friend has scalp cancer. Take care.
Love the placement of the boxwoods! It 100% makes the space feel more like a room. Yes to the hat, you will thank yourself years from now.
Yes, miniature Italian Cypress, that's exactly what I was thinking and I love it.
Awwwww. I love the new tree by the pond. And the boxwoods…. Whaaaat!! Oh my gosh I love them in their locations. Stunning.. you always know what where how to do it all. Goodness. You are amazing.. call me crazy, but you are the garden whisperer.. you just got it.. thank you for sharing yet again, another fantastic video…💜💜🐝🦋🦋
For a girl that said she is planting the South Garden "willy-nilly", You have created a beautiful garden; and did it in two years (?) or so. Would take anyone else many many years. Seeing this area in your videos just creates a peacful feeling in me. You have a 'knack'!
Nice to see you take time to stop, and smell the roses.
Those boxwoods 100% need to go there by the benches! They look so good there!
The pond is looking amazing!😀🌱
Hello this is tuscan kurtrina I enjoy watching your gardening video. You are doing a great job.
So glad to see you wearing a hat. When you are young you don't see the sun damage, but when you get older you won't be able to hide the sun damage. Now at 76 years old, I'm hat, mask and gloves gardener. I love all your videos and you have taught me so much.
I am there at 53. I use moisturizer with sunscreen in it, my daughter pushed me a few years ago.
Glorious shots of the pond. I loved seeing the fish, who seemed so happy. The rose deadheading inspired me to get to work on my own chores, ha.
A real gardener, taking care of her roses as well as herself. Love the hat; good merch!😊❤❤❤❤. The pond looks like it’s been there for years.
Good morning all have a safe and blessed day ❤️
Good morning 🌹
Costco has some great SPF 50 hats that are light and comfortable. Thank you for the reminder to wear mine! 👩🏻🌾
Oh, need to check them out!
I'm so glad to see you using the hat. The sun is fierce. We need to protect our skin now. You will be glad you did later.
Everything is looking awesome and good job on wearing a hat! 👍🏼
It’s definitely important for our skin. 😃🤠
Yes, those boxwoods look really good there!!!❤
Laura you mentioned you know wearing a hat is good for your skin and the top of your head but the one you have is hot, please don’t give up looking for the right one Amazon has tons of styles and materials to choose from and the prices are very reasonable. The one I finally found has a built in sunblock and a mesh top, it also has a draw string on it that bugs the heck out of me so I tie it to the top of the hat I don’t want to cut it off because there are some windy days here in Michigan and it comes in handy (especially since don’t like chasing it down the road when a good wind tries to take it from me😂😂). Don’t give up👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻The rose garden looks fabulous 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🥰🥰🥰🍸🍸🍸
Laura, I wear a light weight canvas mesh Safari hat by Scala. The mesh sidewall helps keep me cool. I’ve had it for years now and find that I can’t garden without it! I hand wash it occasionally too. Crushproof too! I would highly recommend it. Kids need to wear hats too, with a wide brim that shades the top of their ears. From a big fan that loves your gardening family and videos!
Nice to see you wearing a hat Laura. Keeps the top of one's head from frying in the sun. Not to mention the sun damage to your hair, face and neck.
I've used sun block for years. But it took wearing a hat to help with the tremendous damage from the sun that my poor hair endured. The sun bleaches it and causes hair to become brittle and break. My hairbrush would just be full of broken hair. It takes a very long time and many treatments to somewhat restore it after years of abuse.
To me, getting use to wearing a hat was just as difficult as getting use to wearing gardening gloves. But definitely worth it!!
I really like pine you replaced and the boxwood lined up looks very stately and elegant.
Absolutely a hat covers your ears, face, eyes and scalp. I worked with plastic surgeons in clinic removing skin cancers all over these areas. Golfers, boaters, outdoor workers like landscaping, roofers etc we see all the time. At least it will prevent age spots in later years so sunscreen and a hat folks!😊
Like so much in your life you are making a beautiful statement by wearing the hat. Stylish and practical, realize that many of your followers emulate you. Protecting yourself from over exposure to sun is a precaution everyone should take seriously. You are rocking the hat and it needs to be on your store! Monetize it Aaron!!!
Nice video. So very good to see you with a hat on, good for you. Nothing like having children to make us more responsible for their mother. 😊
I agree glad to see your using a hat.my daughter had cancer removed from her crown as she never wore a hat😊
T❤
The sun hat in the rose garden was the best
Laura, bunnies ate my two new ferns in our shade garden. I was heartsick! I love the one you planted. I agree about the tall boxwoods where they meet the existing flower bed…they work there! It’s going to look beautiful! I really appreciate how you held off, though, until you could see the partere garden from your windows upstairs. I’m betting you’ll love it!
Finding the right hat will be important, when you do, buy 10 of them!😂 I love a straw hat, but they do get warm. A nylon hat with vents might work well for you. You wouldn't use a garden tool that makes your gardening more difficult... so skip a hat that isn't right for you.❤
Glad you’re protecting yourself. My Hubs died last year from melanoma at only 59 yo. 💔 I hope you do some smaller size flower arrangements soon.
So sorry for hubs...
59 is so young to die deom skin cancer. I know it can be very aggressive. I regret all my early beachy days of no protection.
Pond looks great. Hope the new pine tree survives. ❤
Kudos on wearing the sun blocking hat👍👍👍
🌟Love the rose garden interlude - beautiful music. Bonus points for the hat - your skin (and hair) will thank you!
Hello! First time commentor, We live in Southern Rhode Island in a forest, sometimes like a real life terrarium. White pines are EVERWHERE and when they look like yours does, it's the Turpentine Beetle. Maybe this helps. You might need to add a bandanna/hat band to your hat regime. I should take my own advice.😊 Now off to shop your store!
Lovin that pond...looking terrific. Those tall boxwoods are in the perfect spot.🐸🌾🌱
I struggle wearing a hat or baseball cap because I perspire so much. However, I realized I’ve got a dryer scalp since I retired and am gardening more - I think it’s the sun. So I got a lighter weight hat with a larger brim and it has vents…seems to be a little better. Just have to find the perfect hat.
What beautiful roses. Please carry that hat in your shop, I love it! So glad to see your covering your face from the sun!🌞💖
The Rose Garden is coming along beautifully. ❤
The wispyness of that white rose would look better tucked into the landscape. Perhaps at the base of a statue or large planter? Idk, but I'm sure you will find the perfect place for it.
Great video. I always love the reminder of how to keep roses looking good.
Thank you for the detail instructions for pruning the roses. Was familiar with 5 leaves but didn't know about the direction of the leaves dictating the direction of the next growth.
I have found that a Visor works as a transition to a solid hat. …..just a thought! Please protect your beautiful face and skin!
Laura, that hat looks adorable on you! Thank you for showing the alcohol cleaning on the Felco’s between roses. I sometimes forget to do this. Your rose garden makes me smile. 🌹💐🥀
Laura, it's so good to see you protecting yourself with a hat. But, I know what you mean about it being hot. I have several gardening hats that, for lack of a better description, are like roll-up brims. In other words, there is no middle. These types of hats are cooler and customizable to your head size. They also can roll up for compact storage.
Yes, hats do make one hotter, IMO, but I believe years down the road, you will be glad you wore them. The gardens look fabulous!!!
So beautiful great idea on the benches and hydrangeas
Everything is beautiful and so well maintained. Great job. The hat is a good idea since the sun is treacherous these days. I don't know how you keep bugs and stuff off with your hair always down but I guess everyone has there own way of staying comfortable! Take care!
Camomile are a beautiful aphid magnet. Save a couple for your vegetable garden.
Love 💕 the evergreens around the benches picture perfect ❣️
A SHAM-MOM-OLAY sighting !!!! YESSSSSS! 🤣😂💗
(I can no longer say that word correctly 🤪)
Same
I have always enjoyed other people’s roses, and yours are the best I’ve seen in a long time! The tower boxwoods look great where you put them! And the pond looks so good! You’ve gout baby fish???!!!🙏💚
❤ the hat! Great job Laura 👏
Big yes for the boxwoods. They look lovely! And a bigger yes for your hat from someone who was diagnosed with skin cancer two years ago. It's a terrifying thing to hear but luckily was sorted out immediately but has made me very aware of the dangers. Long time gardener who never bothered about the sun. Lesson learned. Thanks again for the amazing videos that you share with us all around the world. They are such an inspiration and a daily joy in my life. ❤💐🌸🌳🌲🌹🌺
I do love love love the hat on you!
Love the hat, Laura!! ❤❤
💜🎶 Good Morning Garden Answer .. You look BEAUTIFUL in a hat .. and a true gardner's look .. Thanks for the tip on trimming the roses .. Have a wonderful day 💜🎶🇨🇦
You need a BREATHABLE hat with SPF and a brim. Check out Coolibar or Tilley. Much more comfortable than a straw hat.
Good Morning! 👒 I am so glad I am not the only one that goes crazy at my garden center! Roses are my top favorite! I wear a cap when I am out working in my gardens! 🧢🤪🌹🌿❤️
Smart move to wear the hat! Looks good.💐
Happy to see you wearing a hat ! I can't go out without a hat and sun glasses. Every time I see you in the sun, I want to loan you my hat and sunglasses😊
Always enjoy in each video not only do we get to see your beautiful gardens but we also get tips and tutorials like today deadheading roses. Thank you!
That was a great plus! I never knew about following the leaves. So good to know!
Love where you placed the boxwoods and also the hat! I have seen hats with the head part removed and just the rim that protects your face from the sun!
But you can get burned on your scalp too.
Yay!!!! A hat!!!!! Bravo!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Glad to see you wearing a hat to protect your beautiful face. Keep wearing it and you will get used to it. You will find that you won't go out without it. Like the placement of the box woods. Your garden always look so full and lush. Mine, not so much.
❤the roses look amazing. How I would love to stroll through your beautiful gardens.❤
🙌 Yes to the boxwoods ! I love it ! It’s nice to see roses that aren’t decimated by Japanese Beetles! They are the bane of my life right now !
I am with you. I swear the beetles are more plentiful and stay longer every year. It almost makes some plants not worth it.
@@amysgardenstead2879 I think I’m going to try treating my area with milky spore , I’ve seen people have had good results. I need to research on how though .
Laura looking so pretty in your lovely 👒 hat 👒 and the rose garden looks amazing 👏
Good morning love the aftermath deadheading of roses 🌹 they look wonderful Can we please get a garden answers hat ❤I be roasting in that sun🥵sure I can buy one in stores but would love to have a hat from you / garden answers! take care momma Laura see you in the next one 😀
👒pruning roses, while wearing a hat ,gives such a vibe 🌹💕
Love the placements of those trees beside the bench.
I learn more, or again, every time I watch you work with the roses! The partierre garden is the perfect place for those bushes.
Good morning! The rose garden is so pretty with all that color. With the deadheading it looks so much better. I don’t like wearing hats for the same reason you don’t, it’s hot. It is better for your skin.
Laura. You did. A. Wonderful job. Everything looks absolutely amazing 😊
