When I was 13 years old (I am now 51) I went to the fair and paid 40p in order to throw a dart into some playing cards that were pinned to the back of the stall. The prize for hitting a playing card was to choose one of many different record albums that were displayed around the stall. I played and won three times and so was able to choose three albums. There was only one album there by some one that I had actually heard of, which was Indiscreet by The Sparkes, so I chose that one. The other two I chose purely because I liked the look of the album covers, those being, The Butts Band, and Third Light by Decameron. I gave the Sparkes album away shortly afterwards as it wasn’t really my thing, I occasionally listen to the Butts band album (Robby Kreiger and John Densmore from The Doors), but the Decameron album is something special and is played quite regularly. As a result of me playing it and raving about all those years ago my older brother is also a Decameron fan, he told me that one night when he had had a few drinks while listening to a Johnny Coppin album that he had rang Johnny up and had a conversation with him (he said that the phone number was on the back of the album). I have Third light on CD but unfortunately the sound quality is not up to the standard of the original vinyl, (Journey’s End loses much of its power) so I am now looking for a replacement for the original, because although I still have it, I am afraid that it is not in great condition, shame on me.
