Ktm 200's and kdx200's are my favourite bikes. 200cc two strokes are filth in the bush. I wish they still made them.
Yeah people swear by those KDX 200's. I never owned one but I've had 2 200 SX's. Great engine but terrible handling. I bought a 2015 150 SX and put the 200 SX engine in it. That's the way to go. Handling and power
6 months ago I got a 2003 Ktm 200 exc off of my uncle. Awesome bike! And I still have the original plastics for it
I have a 2004 KTM125sx, I have been toying with the idea of piecing together a 200sx motor. DREAM BIKE!
It's a 199cc in a SX125 frame - it runs a 38mm carb. 214lb dry. Ripping fast- it beats the 250's because the 250's share the larger 300 frame (240lb dry), I've got one of the rare 200's myself, in incredible condition 🇺🇸
That is a SEXY bike!!! Plus I love the cc's. 125s can be a little underpowered and 250s can be a little too much woods riding.
Agree I bought a 250 and its crazy how big of difference it is from a 125.
Too much is better than not enough!! my 95 cr250 can lug up technical trails in 1st easily! Never had a 125 that could do that without my undivided attention.

Always loved these KTMs they looked so cool for the time. Heard back in the day guys claiming they ran cheater motors in the 125 class lol.
Most likely Kawasaki riders did the same with the KDX 200 engines in the mid to late 80’s I think. As the KDX 175 & 200 were based on the KX 125 the engines would probably just fit right in. I have a 94 KDX 200 and when I first got it like 20 years ago man I’m getting old 😂 I gave a guy I knew who owned a KX 250 at the time around a 2000 model i think a go on my bike and when he got off he was so surprised at how quick it was grinning ear to ear he said wow that’s literally just like my bike only with longer gears 😳😍😂 he said his bike was broken so didn’t get to race unfortunately not that i thought I would win would’ve been a good laugh either his bike was thrashed or my little 200 is faster than i thought lol.
That is a sweet piece! Raced one of those 200's in the Glen Helen 6hr race and it was a blast.
I could never get mine too handle in turns. It always wanted to stand up. I had a2003 and a 2004. The 04 engine is in a 2015 150 SX frame now.
I went to one of Watts Dirtwise schools many years ago. That guy was soooo fast, and super cool ...

Ken in 2003 i bought a brand new out of the crate (as you call it) KTM SX50cc auto for my daughter boy that thing was fast but it was that bike in miniature!

A 200? Wow that is my new favorite.
Not sure who said Shane Watts rode these, but he was a off-road rider who rode typically 200EXC & XC-W bikes, not the SX. I watched him dominate a WORCS race at Washougal on a bone stock 200EXC rolled off the local dealer showroom floor, fitted with a set of Fastway pegs and a FMF pipe and silencer (his sponsors). I think I have a picture somewhere on a old hardrive.
Brock Sellards is the guy KTM made the 200SX for in 2001 Supercross. Production started in 03. I believe Mike Alessi raced them a bit too, although I haven’t seen anything online to validate that other than a good friend’s testimony where he claims Mike holeshotted a premier class national on one.
Pipe and silencer on this 200SX are bone stock and the rear shock kind of looks stock with a straight rate spring. Vforce 3 is stock and so is the 39mm Keihin PWK carb. Levers & pegs are stock (Watts used Fastway). The Powerparts Acerbis airbox cover is cool, expensive and not very common. Get rid of that Chinese sprocket and o-ring chain.
Very cool bikes. I own one. They rip. They use a single ring piston like the 125 for quicker revs and the pipe design is like a 125 but a fatter expansion chamber. You can also run the 200EXC/XC pipe with a 250 style design for more low and mid at the sacrifice of the top.

so if you should race one of these, what class does the 200 mix into ?
You would probably have to race against 250 2 strokes and 450 4 strikes. I've had 2 of them and I put a 200 SX engine in a 150 SX frame withe the linkage rear shock. I don't race so I'm not 100% sure about what class you would have to race in but I'm 49 do I would be in the Vet class where CC's don't matter.
Where can I find a red, white, and blue helmet? My current helmet matches my old kawasaki, and I wanna get a new one to match my honda suit.

I'm a big fan of the 200 SX engine but not the handling of the bike. I really wanted to fabricate my 04 KXF 250 to fit that engine. The Kawi haned great. I ended up putting the engine in a 2015 159 SX frame.
If I had that bike I would change the sticker from 200SX to 165SX then go to local MX track and try too wax the newer 250fs Tell every one its just a 125 with 165 cylinder ! Maybe they would let me race in the 250f class Haaahaaa I also forgot the pipe on that older bike looks like a 125 pipe but fat as hell
