The catastrophic eruption of subglacial volcano Katla turns a nearby community’s world upside down as mysteries begin to emerge from the ice. - Zábava
You got to love that Netflix is a company that uses the whole world for its shows. Not like watching network tv and seeing something else shot in LA or NYC. I almost know how to navigate the city based on all the shows and movies I have seen shot from there (not really but you get the meaning).
I like hearing different languages, and not North Americans and Brits butchering them, or them speaking English in a weird accent. I've never understood why people who supposedly speak the same language would speak bad English with a thick accent to each other. Just hire people who are fluent in the language, and put subtitles. Most people can read.
Yes! Black Spot is another great example.
it was cheap for US shows, now we don't need that, there's a lot of excelent productions everywhere. And yes, it's true, i confirmed the NYC navigation by movie memory when i was there after 30 years of watching those movies :D
Yeah, I love that I can see TV-series and movies all around world. Especially from Asia. I think that our western perspective is very limited and people should know that outside of west there are lost of good stories to watch.
I live in Massachusetts andthat never bothered me. Now what bothers me is when a show or movie uses some town, city, or place and say it's such in such but it looks nothing like the actual place they are saying it is.
The landscape scenes in Iceland are breathtaking! I love how there's a volcanic eruption in the middle of a tundra. I'll be watching.
Katla is one of the largest volcanoes in Iceland. She is commonly referred to as "the Witch." Her eruptions are devastating and typically occur every 75 to 100 years. She is long overdue.

honestly this was one of the best shows I've watched in a long time. the beautiful scenery of iceland, the emotional nuance of the story, the mystery and spookiness that keeps you guessing and then the beautiful ending. this is one of those netflix originals that just totally gets it right.
Opinions, I think it started of good but I feel like I wasted time watching it. In a bad way. It’s one of those “how would people react in situation” and then showing literally how no one would react
Don't tell me the first word your mind came up with is DARK.
We went to Iceland a couple years back. The place really looked exactly like in the series. At times the weather gets gloomy as if you lived in a cinematic film in real life. The terrain was vast and majestic. The blizzard scene was so real! It felt as if it was the loneliest yet peaceful place on earth.
The mysterious plot and Icelandic setting made this series a 10/10 for me. Loved it! :D

The series is mind-blowing. On the whole of Netflix, there are only two series that you can call unique and creative. These series are Dark and Katla. They both are totally different and hard to explain to somebody who has not seen them. But both of them lure you in on the powerful human nature of curiosity. With each episode, my curiosity gets higher and higher. The most important message was when the old man said "Everything in the universe is repetitive, The sun and moon goes down and comes back, Human dies and another gets born, Who am I to question nature.
the OA is super awesome and unique too🙃

Brillant, mysterious and captivating! The breathtaking nature of Iceland is the perfect set to unfold the plot.
This series couldn't have been shot anywhere else. Nature contributes to create both literal and symbolic meanings in the story. The characters are all linked by a common trait, that comes in their lives with different shapes and has different nuances , depending on the personal story of the characters.

Answer to the question: "Who am I to question the nature of things?" is "Scientist."

@@syafster That's an extremely broad statement. Depends on the question.
@@Cygnus888
Not really. We can only think in concepts of form, of apparently fixed things that we label to apparently know them. But the labels are meaningless and they point to form where no actual fixed form really exists.
You don’t have the impression that you emerged from the womb thinking, “Oh there’s Mom and there’s the doctor and I’ve just been born and I can hardly wait to get a cookie.” We all know that it takes years to learn the various labels for existence and eventually string them together into a storyline.
But words have no intrinsic meaning. They’re just sounds, or symbols, that point to the many portions of life’s happening. One portion is called a chair, another a body, and another, consciousness.
In different countries, with different languages, they’re different sounds. If we all agreed, the sounds could just as easily be “blix,” “floot,” and “wozzle.”
If I speak to you of chairs, bodies, and consciousness you have the feeling of understanding existence, but if I speak to you of blix, floot, and wozzle, it’s gibberish; it has no meaning. The point is this: words like chair, body, and consciousness are also gibberish; they have no basic meaning.
It’s also obvious that life has no form. Everything is changing. Whether it’s a body, a thought, a mood, a situation, a relationship, a career, and so on, everything is changing. Atoms, chairs, planets, galaxies - it doesn’t matter what it is - it has an apparent beginning, ageing, and ending. Even the sense of existing disappears every night. All forms that appear to exist are moving on to some other appearance. What is has no form.
Ask a newborn baby to describe existence, or to explain why she’s doing what she’s doing, and you’ll get no answer. There is no storyline. No one is doing the happening. It’s a formless, buzzing, pulsing and tingling - a streaming, flowing event. That’s all there is.
No matter how much you think you’ve created this basic happening, you haven’t. It doesn’t matter how many meaningless sounds get attached to illusions of form, all of this is formless and beyond any possible explanation. You can call it the universe or whatever you feel you have to; words really aren’t that important.
Without forms and labels what is there to question? Where is there any you to describe? There is only an inexplicable, formless dance presenting itself.
@@andyreacts So was that philosophical text about 'why' questions or that you don't think scientists actually question the nature of things?

I always like watching foreign series. Most of the time they are great & this one is no different.
Right from the start, I was hooked! The scenery is amazing. Even though the whole world around Katla is covered with volcano ashes, it was breathtaking to me. Kind of apocalyptic.
The story is great & captivating. The mystery keeps building & building. It reminded me of FORTITUDE a little, which was a great UK series.
About that story, it is delivered slowly, which I didn't mind at all. Each character has their little interesting story, that unfolds & interconnects at some point, between each other to piece up the main puzzle.
I watched KATLA in dubbed English & it was pretty accurate in all forms. The acting is pretty good even though I wasn't able to get the real emotions of the original language which is Icelandic, not to be confused with Danish, Norwegian, Swedish & Faroese, which are very closely related to Icelandic though.
Btw, there is some dialogue in English in this series. Yes, the main one is in Icelandic, but there is a fair share of English speaking also. So all is not necessarily lost.
One of the main actresses, Guðrún Ýr Eyfjörð ( Grima ), I find looks a lo like Elliot Page ( Formely Ellen Page ). Also, she is a talented singer. You can check her out under '' GDRN '' on CZcams.
Fact: Katla is a real, active volcano in Iceland. However, its last major eruption was in 1918. Since, only a couple small ones not breaking the ice cover, have been recorded.
The last episode (#8) is pretty emotional. I was not expecting an easy, mellow ending like that.
Will there be a season #2? There are multiple reasons to be hopeful for another season. Let's wait & see.
So, my verdict: Two big thumbs up from me for this great series!

This show is so unusual that it took me a while to fall in love with the actors/actresses and their roles. Yes, I'll be looking for the next episodes. I can't wait to see where the plot goes after this. How many new people can you bring in and have them end up dying? The section of the plot with a former wife returning is so sad. Then, the two sisters are heart wrenching. It held my attention, but strange in some ways. If you like strange, this is for you. You'll love it.
