If “punch the nun,” WAS a euphemism, I think it would be used when you have to do something that is seen as wrong without the right context. Like when you gotta defend yourself but end up hurting someone in the process, “sometimes, you gotta punch the nun.”

I really appreciate how honest Mat is. Like when he says he's not a good friend, and when he explains his conflict with the "would you destroy the world" button, he’s so vulnerable about it.

That is such a HARD question to answer. We all want to think that we are and it's honestly kinda shocking that Matpat was able to answer "No" so fast.
I think it's really hard to answer yes to that question when you think of the times when you hurt others in the past. Sure you may be good to others but you still hurt the other people. Idk, I would have also answered no. I don't spend time with that many people and I feel like if I had a lot more friends, I don't think I could rlly be there for them.
The question is, what do YOU consider to be a good friend. What things would somebody have to do in order to be considered a good friend in your eyes, and then see if you check all those boxes when you talk to your friends. some can say yes, some cannot.

@@cory_and_co Anyone can change. if you don't think you'll ever be a good friend, then either consider lowering your standards of what "good friend" means, or don;t worry about it. Sometimes you don't need good friends, just friends.

When I saw the "are you afraid of spiders" question I immediately thought of the gummy food vs real food challenge. I love that Matt brought it up! 😂
I think it would be interesting for some of those questions to be answered by other people because we often see ourselves in a more negative light than others see us.

I love how both Mark's and Matt's first thought regarding the "Would you be ok alone forever?" was them talking about Amy and Stephanie ❤️
Actually, it specifically asked about *living* alone forever. I thought that meant never sharing a home with another person, which doesn't sound as punishing as being alone forever. So, I figured they can still be with their significant other, just not living in the same house.
I worked on personality profiling assessments for a few years and would, at every possible opportunity, push for the possibilities of gaming. Whether through gamification of systems or putting the systems into games. After all, a game that knew your deepest fears and motivations would have the potential to truly engage a player. I actually made a game in RPG maker as a proof of concept - but it definitely didn’t focus on the question as much as it did your actions and conversations. And it engaged with you as a character, not a person taking a test - the theory was that you might have a “game mask” - the character you want to portray - your true self would manifest in more subconscious ways.

i would love to try a game like this that assessed my “gaming persona” to see if it could figure out my unconscious reasoning for those choices. i wonder how often it would conclude that those choices come down to insecurity or lack of control in the person’s real life.

@@ellespoonies Exactly! The way we choose to portray ourselves in a game speaks volumes about our personalities, but there are things that we can't help do which betray us more. Does the detail oriented person who's playing the role of a fierce warrior still meticulously check every barrel, chest and drawer in case they miss something, for example?
@@D-S-9 If you have the time and resources, you should! It sounds like a great game, I’d definitely pay for it. I mostly play combat + occasional simulator/comfy farm games, but these “test” games are starting to make me want to try it out.

I'd just like to say that the thing that makes a good friend is not the amount of time you spend with them, but weather or not you are there for them when they need you.
To me the difference between "friend" and "acquaintance" is that you need to spend time with an acquaintance to maintain the relationship, whereas a friend you can go years without seeing or talking to, but when you do it is as if no time has passed and you have the same relationship.

31:54 As it happens, this exact issue (what is a “good friend” amount of time to be spending with someone) has come up recently in my life, similarly due in part to the lack of friendships, particularly in earlier life
I wouldn't say not spending a lot of time with someone makes you a bad friend. Like this week we lost water in my town and I was sick so I needed more water than usual. I texted my best friend, who lived outside of town, just to complain about it but she texted me back and said I could come over to her house if I needed to because she still had water. The water was actually back on the next day so I didn't have to but just the fact that she offered meant more to me than I could have imagined. I guess my point is what I feel like makes a good friend is just being their when your friends need you, even if it's just someone they can text to complain about their day.
I had the same issue multiple times bc a friend i got when i was a small child (little but not little little) is now my pen pal and I would take forever to respond. I also never text or call my friends. The only time I see anyone really is at school

As it happens, my problem has less been “what is too little time,” and more “what is the appropriate amount of time.” I made a new friend recently, who I quite like hanging out with, but at the same time, I don’t want to ask to hang out to frequently, as that might be too much, or weird, but I also don’t want to ask so infrequently as for them to think I’m disinterested in maintaining a friendship. So rather than whether it’s too little time, it’s what’s the appropriate amount of time, be that too little or too much
I love that Mat has similar ideas of what "magic" and believing in it is. Whenever I talk about it, I always worry that people are going to think I'm a loon, when my ideas are pretty tame. So it's nice to see someone respectable and on the scientific end of humanity, sharing similar ideas.

@@thatmykahguy For the upcoming ones maybe. I got into it pretty late when they made the 2nd part to the Test Series. There is now 3 and they have _tons_ of side projects. They also have another 3 part series for The Horrorscope which is just as good.

I had a similar thing with waking dreams at night as a young child.
There was a boy in a striped shirt (no nothing like the boy in the striped pyjamas, I hadn't even heard of that at the time, it was just a shirt I had), who would just walk toward me very slowly making no noise (bloody terrifying). If I waved my hand in front of me he would stumble back as if thrown by a force much greater than a simple waft should cause.
So one night I punched him, and he flew backward into the wardrobe. I didn't stop seeing him *at that moment,* he just recovered and started walking again, but I'm pretty sure that was the last time he showed up.
Think I saw him standing with a family in the corner of my room once, too.

it’s good to see matpat taking inspiration from mark but moving past the point where he constantly compared TGT to his channel. matpat has definitely gotten more confident and more sure of his abilities

I genuinely expected this game to be an “I’m in your house and this test is a distraction” type game but that was pretty cool
I played all 3 games after I saw Mark play it and I gotta say it really helped me. This may just be a personality test with extra steps but somethings you need somebody else to tell you who you are from their perspective, for me it got me spot on, I have been struggling with so much and had been down a deep hole of self hatred. My word was Order, then I got Reveal on the second test, and Blessed on the third.
Sure most personality tests are absolute trash that somebody made in a single afternoon with very little thought, but these games are great, they had so much work and heart put into them that its ridiculous, they really shouldn't be this good, but they are. I can't wait till their next big project comes out, its supposed to include parts where you put in your code words from the 3 test games and it will change the story based on the words you put in, to make it a personalized experience.
Hearing Matt be so open about faith and Lent made me so happy 🥲 not something you really see on the internet given the state of it. Bless him

@@audge-audge Yeah, but in my opinion, if it was actually supposed to be scary, it didn't expand enough on that to actually work very well. I was expecting something like "The Watson-Scott Test" with no jumpscares, rather than a weird series of questions with a few slightly creepy ones mixed in.

So... um....Matt, I'm sure you remember this since I'm referencing you're own video on Kanye Quest 3000 but this entire game reeks of being a cult recruitment game.
It's a cheaply made rpg maker game that mined information about you and depending on how you answered gave you a word that could be assigned to you, those that answered the questions in ways that might have picked them out as vulnerable to recruitment were probably given a specific word and then when you place it in the comments the cult would reach out and maybe give other tests to weed out who would be a good recruit. I was waiting for you to make that connection the whole video. From your own words this game came out around the time those were popping up all over the place sooooo
Matpat and or mirror Matt if either one of you sees this, or anyone on the team for that matter, I would love to see a replay of this game with Stephanie answering the questions just so Matt can look for The hidden messages. I don't know what is so hectic about her schedule at the moment that makes her not able to appear but maybe the next time she could that would be an option. Plus we all just miss Steph we love her!

I’d argue that the there is something that we “do” that lasts longer than life.
I would say that if you have kids, and you raise them and teach them to be good, wise adults… hopefully even after you die, they will still be learning from you.
They will remember you, carry on your advice and lessons, and maybe even pass it down to their own kids.
Our legacy and our effect on this world lasts as long as people remember our name.

You've got to play the next two games! The Test: Hypothesis Rising and The Test: Final Revelation, they're even better than this one.
I loved watching people play this game, and playing along with them to do some introspection. It's a really great concept with a very heartwarming finish.

I really like this episode. Hearing what Matpat has to say for these questions made me think a lot about myself. I feel surprisingly similar to him in a lot of ways, but there are some key differences that I feel like, paradoxically, made me understand my and Matpat’s responses to the questions more.
Being that Mirror Matt is always hidden...I feel like maybe he would be a Ravenclaw with the hidden door by the staircase in the house.....a magickal entity that is hidden......
And today, MatPat confirms my suspicions that he is far too analytical to believe in ghosts. "have you seen ghosts?" -tells stories that would be fairly stronger evidence for ghosts- "nope"
Is having seen shadows strong evidence of ghosts?
@@RasmusVJS Unexplained moving shadow people? As well as the blue orb, the tooth fairie. I mean, you can argue not ghosts, but just, how quickly he said they were waking dreams... Idk, I think it's interesting, because yes, a lot of people would say that both of those occurrences are arguably evidence of possible ghosts. My point is that he DID see ghosts, but things that most people would then say, I might have seen ghosts, but he is so analytical, that it's just not a fathomable possibility. Also, I didn't realize it crossed part of that out. I'm not used to websites coding like that tbh. so, that's just supposed to read as an action... not... whatever being crossed out would imply, lol.
