love the pond setup beyound top end set up. i think its funny that you said the frist thing people want to do is go get fish, my ponds been going for 4 months no fish yet , im still gathering plants, ive had countless tanks and ponds i even had a 300 gallon reef pond 180 gallo reef tank. ect which brings me to my question why dont you have plants in the water ? you know plants make fish healthier and happier ? make note im prolly not doing koi. but you should consider growing alot of yard plants, my 2 ponds that i just setup in green house water fall into each other and are only 200 gallon but main purpose is watering the green house plants i want fish because fish make poo. plants eat poo, i do water changes dayly becuase the water feeds the green house so the water is ultra pure, kinda like aquaponics but thats stupid. but besides the plants ..
if i was a koi id want to be your pet.
i repeat get some water plants :)

I have kept koi for over 35 years and haven't gone anywhere as near to a system as you have. I have to say fair play, it must have cost a reasonable amount to setup such a system I only hope people thinking of starting a koi pond are not put off by such a complex setup.

no doubte . you can get away with a 100 gallon feed and water tank. 100$ usa lol can build a filter for about 60$ lol he used all those bio balls. check shortly ago they cost 50$ usa for 4 gallons cheapest. or you can get 5 gallons of lava rock for 7$ and i can and will argue that lava rock is beter but yeah 5 gallon bucket holes in bottom 7$ lava rock and a pump hang at least a foot above water so it water falls down boom done, id also get a 25$ sponge box that kinda filters. did i just build a kio pond for under 200$ usa? lol

The hobby doesn't seem that big here in the US. Have you ever had problems with your plumbing? I'm having the debate on rather I should keep as much of the plumbing as I can in concrete or exposed. And if there's problems with the pipework having to bust open the concrete to get to it

I am a bad koi keeper. My water stays green. Two 55 gallon barrels filters and two air stones. I feed them Purina Game Fish food $30 for 50 lbs. plus assorted fruit mainly grapefruit in the winter. My only fish losses came after some fish I bought 4 years ago. The rest were Jumpers and one storm. I don’t own a microscope. My favorite koi I paid less than $10 for and she’s about 28 inches and 15+ years old.

Yo James, I've subscribed to your channel. I have a question. I've been slowing preparing to build my pond and I want to know what size bottom drain I should use? I've researched a lot and I'm stuck from choosing a 3 or 4 inch bottom drain. My pond is going to be 12 feet by 9 feet by almost 5 feet deep. I understand 3 inch will give me faster flow and 4 inch will be slower. I'm designing my pond like yours, rectangle with a viewing window. 27 inches below ground and 27 inches above ground level. The bottom drain will be aerated. So 3 or 4inches? It will be gravity fed. I want the first filter to be a sieve filter and then into a 3-barrel filter, and in the future I will convert to a drum filter like yours. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

I was a bit upset to think others were less than kind with their words on here, anyway . I'm in the process of getting myself a soakaway so I can have trickle in at a cheaper cost. What was your method watch the videos of the drama pond a few times but worried with my soak away. My soil is quite clay bound and doesn't seem to drain away to quick what the parameters from the water company sorry to ask just hit a wall. Currently I'm 1m deep plus 1m square. Is that enough only to trickilng about 1000 litres aweek which is 10%

Find your videos give the most honest no b*llocks information on the hobby. I am 6 months into this hobby and soon realised my pond is not big enough for the 6 koi I have and I’m cleaning my filter which is supposedly good enough to do double what the pond size is weekly. Out of curiosity what dimensions is your pond because I’m looking at a space I have available in my garden near to the existing pond I have. I have worked out I would get a pond 3700 x 1400 mm and roughly want to go 1200 deep. I’ve got a tempest filter coming from Santa 😂 and I’m looking into building my own Bakki shower but also thinking of adding an eazy pod. What’s your honest thoughts James? Every koi shop is giving me different opinions and I feel they tend to all push a certain brand which suits them obviously

Discount off your water bill #1
Hi all I am new and not sure what topic to start so I think I would let people know who have a pond and a water meter. You can get a discount off your water bill as they cannot charge you sewage on the water for topping up and the water that you used to fill your pond. It works out about 13% and you need to ask your water board for the form. Most folks prob already know this but for those who don't a bit of a saving
