It's too bad that Barry Berkus died. Nevertheless he left behind a legacy to all mankind, to profit from it. He was a great architect!
He gives me Bob Ross vibe but w architecture
I could watch these videos forever, there is so much intelligence in those drawings
@jasondrepin: Many of you have been asking what kind of pens I am using. I am using Chartpak and Copic markers, which you should be able to find at your local art store.
I can listen him all the time. What he shows to us is very inspiring , and how he descripe it gives a big understanding to new architects
Walking with the eye is a very interesting idea. When I looked up to that massive void in a cathedral, its like you inhabit that massive space with your eyes and imagination instead of with your body. Like how your brain simulates how you could move through a space or perch on a ledge, and architecture can guide your eyes to journeys beyond your own bodily limit... unless you do parkour of course
2 minute videos that i can learn so much from, i wish he was still alive to bless us with more videos like this one :(
that was inspiring. I wanna be an architect and i feel that i can always relate to your videos. Thanks Barry! :)
u can be a designer....at list by learning the materials and good structures can be a good start
Rest in peace king, came to know you this year. Great work walking with a third eye my lecturer used to tell me that
I love how he doesnt fill the whole paper with the blue of the sky. Because what matters is the relationship between the blue colour and the outline of the drawing, thats all you need to make out that there is a blue sky behind it.
You could mold the concrete slumped into a canvas tarp. Curved on the bottom, flat on top. Cantilevered to a central trunk.
you sir, are amazing... giving my that second wind that pushes me into finishing this degree!
DJ B Did you finish?
Sometimes it gets hard for me to design, because all the ideas i have cramps up. Your explaination just opened my thoughts. Thank you so much :)
I am going to practice these exercises. And buy some of those markers and paper. Thanks!
What a brilliant flow of ideas. He truly has an architecturally wired mind.
love his work ... its so creative and inspirational :D
I enjoy exploring nature, keep it onward!
RIP Barry.
this man has great creativity…8
I truly love it .. Thanks for sharing ...
My teacher always tell us "your form is very evident"
like when it looks like you copied the shape of something without making a notorious changes.
@BarryBerkus Thank you so much, i a a 12 yearold boy who realy wants to become a architect and u realy want to use markers that would help me.
ummm... in the computer you could use photoshop and overlay stuff because you can work in layers but all in all good stuff.
I was so engrossed in what he's drawing that I had to replay to listen again.
It's amazing picture you drew
It is interesting that most of old people recommend drawing hand free more than on the computer, I have old teachers who say that very often, and I just wonder if they are actually right or they just went like this all their life so now is more natural for them to be able to design this way.
Drawing by hand allows for non-linear thinking, in a nutshell provides far more scope to think outside the box and develop your design more creatively and naturally than using a computer which is far quicker - but also far more logical and results in a usually far less interesting and effective design. That said I find computers a great way to test ideas when there is no time or resources for hand modelling, and also for creating workbooks, layouts and computer rendered images when the project is nearing completion.
I think it depends on how you master the art of representing what is in your mind flow, because as fast and fluid your ideas and imagination develops and "pops out " in your head, the more is needed to have a practical and prompted art skill.
Most of Old people professionals masters other type of tools than new ones. There´s no better tool in absolute, its just a kind of having the right practice with it.
***** What if I draw in paint on a computer with touchscreen? I find it to be the exact same but better because you don't make any mess when you erase, you have access to all different colors without spending money on markers, and you don't waste paper but my teacher said it wasn't the same.
***** To be fair digital art programs offer a far more similar experience - I was referring mainly to digital design programs ie. sketch up , revit etc- Sketching is a far more free and natural experience allowing less straightforward thinking - have also had many ideas arise from overlapping sketches on a page by accident or from overlapping trace
***** as long as youre sketching on something it's all good
thanks for creating such wonderful content
this is magnific the form arquicteture beautiful
You should have more videos!
You should not stop making videos!
The blue just distroyed it
This guy is an architect GURU
The problem is that the international style is so prominent. Most skyscrapers and other buildings are just boxes. Try to compare Shanghai with Tokio, New York City with Chicago, and you'll find out that the skyline of all the cities is identic.
thanks for sharing
grz from belgium
those are awesome pens
wonderful to watch an expert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see you made the change 8 months ago. So you are prolly well aware of all the stress and pain and exhaustion that comes with architecture studies.
Hang in there, bro. Hang in there.
can anyone help me find more such lecture by barry berkus
.there should be more videos somewhere
he has more videos on his channel if you haven't seen all of them, though you probably have found them as a year has now passed by since you commented the question.
Chartpak all the way! Love it
I can smell those Chartpak markers through the screen!
May I assume that the paper medium is similar to that of, if not, a tracing paper?
THAT'S JUST THE SWEET PART....
Thank you very much!
I am not an architect, but I play minecraft and in minecraft build buildings
and stuff and you can always look at the last thing you have built and make it better. The only limmit there is that you use blocks to build is it, or nooo
RIP Barry🙏🏼
A good example of how nature and see in person q imagine for what I require and I think as architects eh charm
Where can I get your book? "Walking with the eye" is named I think? Please I want to learn!
Oh my gosh. I can see real potential! What pens are you using? They're beautiful!

This made me think of Frank Lloyd Wright's 1947 proposal for The Huntington Hartford Sports Club and Play Resort.
What’s the difference between an architect and an engineer?
Architects design structures, engineers tell you where and how big the beams need to be to hold it up.
who is the author of the book that you mention??
