Child falls through subway grate at park in Brooklyn

- Police are on the scene after a child fell through a subway grate in Brooklyn on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident was reported just after 5 p.m. at Rudd playground at Bushwick Avenue and Aberdeen Street.
The FDNY says one patient was taken to Kings County Hospital.

And this is why I avoid walking on the subway grates, you never know what could happen.
Same with cellar doors for businesses in NYC. You never know..

Prayers for the kid and all but yall gotta stop blaming the MTA for this. You can clearly see that the ventilation grate shafts were gated off, which should be even MORE of a warning not to mess with the grate. And he winded up falling through, unfortunately. However, they could have screwed the grate shut wayyy more. Additionally for the babies complaining about a 2.75 Subway, no one cares, lol, if you can buy gucci, watches, fast food and possibly any other unneeded items, then I'm sure that if you can pay 20 or hundreds worth of that, then you can pay a simple 2.75, WITH Free transfers.

Glad the child is recovering though doesn't appear to be an easy case for those hinting to sue as the subway grates were blocked off, only access was the door being tampered with.
bro I feel so bad cause I was there his mom was crying and me needed to pull her back she was crying and someone had Bust the gate I was there when they did all that I had tears I had hugged his mom aunt and Cousins
And we needed that thank you.
He was running and he saw whole and he tried to grab on to the fence but he tripped from the tip of his shoe and then he fell in the whole he is ok now hes doing much better and ppl say it bad parenting and saying “wheres the parent” she was right there but she didn’t have time to tell him stop..
Just sad hopefully he will be ok.

She said “possibly” because it could gave been the mother’s brother or a male friend who was able to take her to the playground/hospital. Stop being so sensitive. The statistics tell us that many black mothers and children do not have a man in the household. If you are so concerned just make sure you are present in the lives of all your children and don’t leave them to fend for themselves! Smh 🙄🙄

So it sounds like this happened because parents weren’t paying attention. A well confined subway grate doesn’t just open up without a child not being watched properly.

NYC Parks Department? MTA? The grates were sealed off by the gates. When was the gated door inspected last? Secured last? It's not open-shut case as the grates were still blocked off from the children who opted not to go past the door.

The door wasn't open. The kids climbed through a hole In the fence that was made sometime this past weekend. Not saying there isn't any negligence as the playground has had several days to address the hole.

It'll be like 10 yrs before they get that money. It's very hard to get money from MTA due to them being self insured.
