John Meadows is an American professional bodybuilder and entrepreneur with an intriguing story. While John now boasts a successful career as an IFBB Pro bodybuilder and fitness company owner, his journey towards the top was extremely difficult.
Growing up, John never met his father, and his mother died at an extremely young age. This meant John only had his grandmother to take care of him. When his grandmother tragically passed away in 1999, John was left alone without his family to support him.
As the years went by, John continued to face new adversities in his life. During his early days in bodybuilding, John suffered from a rare colon disease. After fighting the disease for several months, his colon burst - almost resulting in his death. Luckily, John was quickly rushed to an emergency room where his life was saved. After several months of recovery, John was finally back on his feet.
Coming back into bodybuilding, John used the very obstacles that almost cost him his life as ‘fuel’ to grow stronger. Ever since he recovered from the colon surgery, John has gone on to become a successful bodybuilder, entrepreneur, and inspiration for many people all over the world.

Protect your shoulders guys!!! I'm 33 (183lbs). I did weightlifting in High school, College and for football for both. And my shoulders are killing me now after all that lifting, all those years without being shown a better or smarter way like John is talking about. I did shoulders and back this morning and my shoulders aren't in constant pain anymore because I learned and watched how to work them without causing injury.

It's crazy how people all over the entire globe loved him and were so positive about him, no one hated John. Big, big loss to the fitness industry, can't have enough mountaindogs during these times. Been training with weights for over 40 years. I feel like just now I am finally figuring it out! As an older but committed lifter, I am finding that higher reps, TUT, cluster sets, isos and negatives, hitting each body part several times a week is my focus. Once per week do a heavy compound movement for each body part to maintain strength. Thanks for your education John!

Thanks for the tips. I'll have to try the inclined dumb bell raises on my next shoulder work out. I've been doing a single dumb bell raise with the dumb bell pointing towards the floor while standing. I position it between my thumbs and the top of hands with my palms parallel to the floor while standing in front of my face. I hold the dumb bell where I'm looking over the top of it and then raising it up so I'm looking under the bottom of the dumb bell. I like to do at least 10 reps. This prevents any swinging.

I'm really glad to hear you say that stopping a few inches from your chest is ok. I had rotator cuff surgery back in Dec 2019 and while I've recovered pretty well, I don't want to risk re-injuring myself. So I have been stopping above my chest a bit instead of bringing it all the way down and putting too much of a stretch on my shoulder. Also, I do pull my elbows in somewhat to protect that insertion point, so glad to hear you're good with that. I really like what the incline does for me and if the way I'm able to do it now is good, I'll keep doing it that way :)

Hi John, just wanted to stop by and let you know I appreciate your information bud. Like many people interested in lifting and nutrition, I follow a lot of different people here on CZcams to try to get the best information possible. What I really like about you John is that, whereas there’s plenty of good information out there (and tons of bad) most of these other CZcams fitness people honestly ooze with egotism and have no humility whatsoever it seems. My bet (I’m not a betting man) is that if you put all of these guys in the same room including yourself, you would be probably the only dude smiling and listening to these other mouths just talk. You’re humility and down to earth personality really shine through John and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that. I feel like you’re someone who truly just wants to help other people learn from your experience. Don’t ever change you’re the best John thanks!

John!! Master tip for all levels; work through the burn and when form breaks that is the point the set is over. 👍 so many people train to a specific number of reps and stop. The body always wants to do the least amount of work so the mind has to be strong and tell the body to work past the burn! Always using the proper amount of weight for this type of technique no need to get hurt the weight will be there when your ready! Thanks John!

thank you for the knowledge and the inspiration sir . I am a 65 y.o Army vet battling stage 4 metastatic cancer since 2011,and after a number of surgeries and radiation and back on chemo again( 2 years straight on,week in week out mostly)I need inspiration to keep motivated in the gym.I am not saying all this for pat on the back but to tell you that what you give positivity affects people far and wide and to thank you and encourage you to continue.

Hi John, I’m 71 years old and listen to your advice on all body parts. I’m still growing even at my age!
