Because some who are asked for help are arrogant, know-it-all and condescending. Especially religious people. And they usually combine their help with proselytizing.
Yeah I hear you but when your own family wants to harm you every way imaginable we’ll then there’s no coming back from that- for example if all siblings want to send mom and dad to nursing home just because they want the house and money- that’s not cool- tell me how do you forgive something like that? And that’s not even counting the lack of trust

Yes, and I would suggest by following Peterson’s example. - He gives heavy emphasis on the Encouragement of mankind to act for themselves in his lectures, and I respect him for that.

JP is referring to Matthew 7:7. Amazingly, this was my verse of the day, today and it applies to what's happening in my life at the moment. I don't think it's coincidental that I stumbled across this short, either. Especially from a person I respect as much as JP. I feel like the Lord is telling me something. God isn't going to shower you with gifts just because you are you, and asked for them. If you truly want something from the heart, he'll set you on the path to getting it, if you ask. Nothing comes for free, however. You have to walk that path and not veer off into the woods. That's the hard part. The devil is always lurking in the woodline and he sets traps for you to fall into. The good news is, God will walk the journey with you, from start to finish. He'll guide you, as long as you keep your eyes on him. If you stay with him through thick and thin, the reward at the end will be far greater than what you asked for.

Isaiah 55:10, 11 was my favourite when I was a child. Mostly because I loved the beautiful language. "Just as the snow descends," etc. And further in that chapter(?) "The trees will clap for you" 🥲🥹🥹💟

Regardless of your personal beliefs, Jesus of Nazareth was an extremely well documented historical figure by many many sources, not just the ones included in the Bible. Trying to deny that Jesus existed is like saying that George Washington or Thomas Jefferson or Julius Cesar or Cleopatra or Marcus Aurelius or Alexander Graham Bell or Nikola Tesla or any other historical figure was fictional, only worse.
I did not have adult figures to guide me in the so many ways as you do through your work. I am sure glad to have you doing this for others and myself and all you do… as you do it, with the truth, bluntly. As now a Christ follower, this message has a more expanded meaning. I thank you Dr. Jordan, I truly appreciate you.
I didn't have an adult to guide me either. So when I was twenty I consciously decided to be my own adult to intentionally guide myself. I decided to take a number of strategic risks in my life after planning with contingency plans. I asked adults unrelated to me for advice throughout my life. I think I was successful with my plans.
Sometimes I feel like Jordan is speaking directly to me. That he uses the wisdom of the bible makes it even more profound.
Jordan really has helped me to be better. Thank you Dr. Peterson

The problem is that we don't always know what we're seeking, or what to ask for.

That's one of my most favourite bible teachings, and it was my mum, who taught me it.
And soooo challenging to initiate in my own country Jordan.
(As to ask for something here is nearly seen as being high maintenance).
And I can also say, that the gospel piece which confused that piece of scripture for me, is/was : one day at a time.
Because the one day at a time sweet Jesus message, lended itself to me mistakingly believing that it is preferable,
not to plan anything . For one is only meant to live one day at a time.

The advantage of having a good plan.
And decent planning is such an advantage. But just letting you know which passage it was that contradicted and confused that knowledge, was.
Or how it justified my former laziness, in not planning anything.

I love listening to Jordan but I just love how he talks about the Bible. It’s like he has maintained an unbiased view when reading it. I don’t think he fully believes in what the gospels preach BUT, every time he thinks about something that the Bible says he can’t see it as folk tale but instead actual truth. So he is left fighting with the final truth but only due to its intensity. It scares him, as it should but still. I pray that he does accept Christ because even though I say I believe yet my actions don’t prove it, in the back of my head I just have the deepest feeling of that being the truth. Every time I learn more about the world I end up realizing that the Bible keeps getting truer.
It really is that way I got what I asked for years ago I asked for a caring and sweet partner and months later I found that person sweet caring for 15 years now
Ask God to help you with your relationship and you will receive the answer in whatever he seems fit, either strengthening it or ending it

Too many people are too prideful to knock, seek, and ask for help.
Plans and goals are so good for the human brain.
I tell people this all the time. Have a goal in mind and you do things to work toward it.
I remember telling my dad that I cannot find a job. No one wanted to hire an inexperienced worker. His response was "How many applications and job interviews did you do?" I told him and he said , "Not enough, keep trying." It is a numbers game.
The next week I got my first job. Life is a numbers game.

This passage is about seeking God and righteousness.

Humankind are spiritual creators, we were given that gift, our thought and energy has power, unlike the fallen angels who can only mimic and corrupt. The devil couldn't recreate the stars in heaven but he's tried here on earth and now we have Hollywood.

I'm 24 and this year I've really understood vision. I lived such short-termist plans for years and if I could go back I wish I would put my youth into something more productive. But I'm grateful everyday that I turned my mind around at 24 not 34. Every time JP says something it's like a perfectly articulated snap of an idea I could never articulate myself. He's wonderful.
The power of positive thinking.
Not quite. He is trying to tell us to make a damn plan, because how can we ever expect to get anywhere in life if we don’t even have a plan on where we want to be and how we’re going to get there.
I think he is trying to inspire the lost and hopeless by teaching them the tools to make themselves a better future. I think.

@@themanufan8 nah…. My granny believed in that philosophy too. Why would I ever do anything with thinking like that. I’ll just keep a positive attitude that god will provide, I won’t contribute a damn thing other than that, and I’ll just sign back and wait for god to do all the work because I’m positive.
Or, I’ll be so positive that I’ll try out frontage NBA and be confused on why I didn’t make it. Or, every single job Above my current skill level that I apply for I’ll do nothing more than keep a positive attitude d expect them to hire me.
Or, I’ll just keep a positive attitude that you’ll understand what I’m saying… and wamo blamo you’ll understand.
Keeping a positive attitude mentality seems to be a consequence of being a a follower of religious dogma. ie. when you ask god for something, and it’s not provided, just sit back, keep a positive attitude and wait until god decides it’s time for you to have it.
In 1978 I was a janitor in an iron ore mine. I was frustrated and knew that I could do better for myself and my young family. I was determined and started working to get ahead. Eight years later, after a lot of hard work, I was working as a computer scientist at Bell Labs. I had a vision of where I wanted to go in life early on, and worked to fulfill that vision. The goals that I still work to achieve guide my daily life, and always will. It has worked for me, so I'm not about to do something different now.
You have and continue to open so many eyes... Thank you sir, and keep up the good fight!!!!

The truth “Ask and ye shall receive, knock and it will be opened unto you” has been a prominent aspect of my immediate personal growth. I was pleased but not surprised to see this clip. There are paradoxical patterns and synchronicities everywhere; if one does not search for them, one finds them.

Jordan is right. Not making a plan is, in itself, a plan. It is like making a "plan" to be in a default setting. Or to drift with the tide. As for the verse, so many fail to knock. They fail to seek or to ask. Interestingly, there is that other verse, " Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me." Rev. 2:20. So not only are we to be seekers; we are also being sought.
Ask, and it shall be given unto you, seek, and you shall find, knock, and the door will be opened unto you.
That’s why we die to self first. You wouldn’t believe how much that affects your plans.
Without dreams and visions people perish
This concept comes from the “Sermon on the Mount“
At the end of the Beatitudes
(Be- Attitudes)!
The correct order given to His followers is (using the acronym)(a.s.k)
A) ask and it will be given to you.
S) seek and you will find.
K) knock and it will be opened to you

When I think about that verse, I think about searching for someone in a town. To help me remember the concept.
I start asking
Then seeking in the dark or difficult places to see

Knocking from door to door to find who I am looking for. 😉

I would also say that that's a very narrow minded view and a very basic view. What hes doing is hes relating The Bible, To everybody.
The thing people don't want to accept is that most countries in the West were created by christians, The very basic fundamentals of our society can stem back to The Bible And not a lot of peopaul read The Bible anymore more people are atheist or agnostic than Christian in the West.
It's really hard to have a cohesive society when nobody believes the core fundamentals anymore.

When I was little, I wished for a trampoline. Around 13 I started praying for a bf instead. I've received neither.

Attaches to other scriptures like
- God is a rewarded of those that seek him.
- asking is about pursuit of Gods wisdom and counsel. Getting His perspective.
- Seeking is about looking with intention putting effort and time into looking.
- Knocking on the “door” of heaven brings revelation.
The scripture uses doors as a metaphor for revelation. The revealing of a thing that was hidden being made manifest and brought to your sight and understanding. ❤

I have PTSD with lots of trauma. I'm on veterans disability income. The most I can plan is what time my therapy appointments are this week.
But I do have thoughts about things I'd like to do:
- to lose 50 lbs in 6 months (it may take me a year).
- to plan to see a movie or show once a month.
- to volunteer at a few local places.
- to maybe take a course at the community college.

as well as supplementary plans. before I minimalyze or re plan my previous planning and re knock since I forgot the door was unlocked.
Faith in God and doing His will would be the answer.

This is especially rewarding when you SEEK God, ASK for a revealing of the truth.
Knocking implies; " that one is aware that they're at a door.
The opposite of planning is spontaneity.
Even bad planning, short term planning is a form of planning.
People who notice that no amount of planning will come to fruition, as unforseen circumstances such as, flash flooding, earthquakes ... impedes the best of plans; will eventually adopt spontaneity as their daily preference of motivation.
The SEAK principle is so important but most people just ask, yet do not know what their hearts wants and or fail to act
Seek means look into your heart and discover what really makes you happy. This is a journey of a process and changes offer
Ask means recognize that the Creator made you and this was a blessing, knowing he will give you more. You must trust - yet while knowing it’s already done for you.
Knock - go get it knowing it’s yours.

Out course, this verse from "a Gospel" is taken out of context (it's about access to God the Father, the creator of matter), but there's a psychological effect that any human being can experience. Very good!
You must make a mind movie with as many details u can muster,to make it real. Then u think about this movie( of your goal plan,desire etc) even for few seconds daily and believe it with feelings of gratitude & excitement but don't worry the universe believes if u do so it shall be. Ive Found this to be true. It works!
