The hard rule of merging is to be going at least the posted speed limit. It's important with students to get the vehicle going faster. Too many drivers are going too slow when they merge onto a highway or freeway.
Good luck on your road test.

Merging is the nightmare of new drivers.
@brooklyyn Some people have no courtesy whatsoever. It is like they are on the road for some kind of rivalry or to cause problems. Stay safe bro.
True but not for me my first time driving on the main road was this past Sunday 😂after only practicing 3 times in parking lots the 3rd time in that same night my father had me merg on to the main road for the first time and drive back home I thought I was gonna fold but I didn’t it was actually cool fr

It’s my favorite part the 50 to 100 mph acceleration the most fun
I'm literally finna be 16 and my dad made me drive to the expressway to my school for practice, I was kinda scared at first but it was alright for me, but I'm safe!
As an American. Hearing this driving instructor say "put your foot into it! 90! 90!" made me think they were about to pull 90mph on the freeway with a student driver and was kinda hyped

In iowa driver's ed they used to have 14 year olds bring the car up to 100mph and then back down to 75 just to get a feel for things

I was like wtf 😂😂😂

No. Apparently im not supposed to merge at 90 mph anymore. At least that's what the sheriff keeps saying.
Normal in Germany xD
foot down 90!
Thought it was going to be 90mph
My instructor actually told me to break the speed limit to make a pass, but the driving school's ford was a pos and the transmission wouldn't kick down, so there I am in the left lane slowly giving it more and more gas(pedal is halfway down btw) waiting for the car to kick down and it just refused to.
Where I frequent, 90 miles per hour isn't that crazy a speed. It's still pretty high, but it's not considered "batshit"

@@goldysgarage189 Yeah, I know what kilometers are. In fact despite living in the US, I always measure temperture in Celsius, and try to think of distance in metric to make myself more suitable for conversations with non-americans. But I was just interjecting saying that on some American roads, 90 mph is still considered only slightly above average. Don't tell me to open my damn mind when it was already so

Great lesson & advice. Let's not die. In order to merge you have to be at the same rate of speed as the traffic you're moving into.

Isn't it 80 kmh on highway ? And for the signs on highway if it says 80 ur supposed to b at 80 or few km under ? Like if it doesn't say 90u still go 90?
@VB-yc7cn where are you in the world? Cheers Rick
@smartdrivetest hi Rick I'm from surrey bc . I'm sure that most of our signs are max limits... I'm doing my test In guildford In a few days. Dont know if ill be going on highway but anyway .. I also wanted to ask is it OK when reversing to have one hand on the wheel and one behind passenger ? Also questionn # 2) what about for the portion of the parallel park when ur reversing ? Can I also have this set up.. I was thinking for reverse yes but two hands for parallel park.. unless u say different!! Thanks Rick
Bro had me thinking he meant 90MPH like damn brah if you gonna merge at 90 at least have Free Bird playing in the background lol

I frequently see drivers merge at only 45 mph onto 70 mph highways then hesitate a few seconds before accelerating. Accelerate to the speed limit before you merge not after you merge.
they'll accelerate anyway... after getting rear-ended
Not always possible to accelerate to speed limit. Sometimes there are queue ahead or short slip road
@@astyaworld2858 Not always possible but drivers such as you do not even try to accelerate to the highway speed limit before merging and still enter the travel lane at only 45 mph then hesitate a few seconds while in the travel lane before accelerating over 45 mph. It rarely is not possible to accelerate to the high speed limit before merging. Two-tenths / mile is plenty of distance for cars to accelerate to the highway speed limit. Car manufacturers do not boast about the slow accelerate rates in advertisements of their cars. They boast about high acceleration rates.

Then they hesitate for a few seconds before finally accelerating.
@@oscargrouch7962 I think they hesitate for safety. Maybe it is okay to drive your way on Sesame Street. Pun intended. I have an idea. When approaching an in ramp why not change lanes if safe to do so ?.
@@carolkenyon5063 Oh, Carol, dummy, I missed the part in my comment above in which I typed I do not move over a lane to allow merging traffic to merge BECAUSE I NEVER TYPED I DO NOT MOVE OVER A LANE TO ALLOW MERGING TRAFFIC TO MERGE.
Hesitate in traffic after merging for a few seconds for safety before finally accelerating? What? The safest speed to merge into traffic is the speed the traffic is already moving. Neither merging faster and slower than traffic is safer than merging at the speed of traffic.
As in the video that you obviously did not have the attention span to listen to, only drivers of merging can accelerate their own vehicle to match the speed of traffic BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE CAN ACCELERATE THEIR VEHICLES FOR THEM. Surprise! The driving instructor urged the student driver to accelerate to merge with traffic because the instructor could not accelerate the car for her.
How long have you been merging incorrectly? I suggest you need to schedule some driving instruction to learn how to merge with traffic correctly.
Hint: That right pedal in your car is the accelerator. Press it with your right foot to accelerate. USE IT THE NEXT TIME BEFORE YOU MERGE WITH TRAFFIC NOT AFTER YOU MERGE WITH TRAFFIC
@@oscargrouch7962 You certainly are grouchy. You act like driving is an ego trip lol. Pass this one , pass that one. Speed. Speed. This is not the way to go. Be safe. Let me educate you. The sign on most ramps is
" Yield. " That means you let traffic near you pass. I know this sounds scary to you , but this is safe. My idea of safely changing lanes when safe for ramp traffic is good. They can use the right most lane. I use the middle lane. This GREATLY reduces the risk of an accident. I am well aware of placement of pedals in the car. I know what to use them for. I went to driving school. My attention span is very long. I have a four year college degree. Do you ? Remind me not to drive when you and that driving " instructor " are on the road. He is more like a driving destructor.
@@carolkenyon5063 Oh, Carol, you have proven AGAIN with your second comment that you are not bright. Do you know what 'yield' means? 'Yield' means 'to give way to'. Now you know.
The "YIELD" signs are for the merging traffic to give way to traffic already in the travel lane because the traffic in the travel lane has right-of-way over merging traffic. That is why "YIELD" signs are along highway entrance ramps not along the travel lanes. It is the responsibility of the merging drives to yield to drivers already in the traveling lane.
What if there is no middle lane? Do you panic if traffic tries to merge?
Yes, I do have a Bachelor Degree. FYI, I also have a Master Degree. Your punctuation, grammar, and vocabulary are atrocious for someone who claims to have a four-year college degree. Anyone else old enough to have a four-year college degree knows the "YIELD" signs are for the merging traffic.
Nah if I was driving and he said step on it I would drive that to redline lmao

Get that thing going were all tired of waiting and getting on the freeway too slowly is absolutely dangerous.
Anything , racing to get to on the highway or anywhere is very dangerous.
But I mean what if there's traffic? Sometimes you have to be cautious because the cars next to your lane may try to pass you.
@@aero-fw9oswell if there is traffic then you dont have to drive as fast when merging. Its situational but for the most part you should be at maybe 65-75 when merging onto highway
@@carolkenyon5063its even more dangerous if youre merging while going too slow and/or braking
Pick up speed on the accel ramp and eye down a spot to merge to while also checking driver side mirror/rearview and shoulder checking your blindspots while you're in the acceleration lane. You have to be fast because people are speeding and slowly merging into highway traffic can cause a deadly accident

He is NOT teaching merging. He is forcing students to barge their way into traffic. Not safe. He needs to take driving lessons instead.of pressuring people.into driving unsafely. You are NOT obligated to go the speed limit.
@carolkenyon5063 but you are obligated to merge safley on a highway, that is your responsibility and yours solely, if you hit someone merging into the highway because you were not going fast enough it's your fault, and if you cause a roadblock on the merge lane that slows down the flow of traffic that's also impeding traffic. I'm also a truck driver and I see this stupid shit all the time, people legitimately rolling so slow into it they abort halfway through as you pass them and cause 5 to 6 cars behind them to come to a dead stop on the damn highway.

At the end of the day, you are the one behind the wheel and the final result will be on you. (Technically, it is probably safer to use your better judgement and decide that you cannot safely and successfully attempt that maneuver at that speed and find a safe out [because there could, in theory, be a wall of cars and nowhere to merge in, in which case you would have to stop instead of forcing your way into a wall of cars anyway or there could be a situation where you're not sure if your car would fit in the gaps that there are, and so you'd have to do the same thing] than to drive at a rate of speed where you cannot fully control the car and when you are not sure if you have a safe spot to merge in with... I understand that sometimes we need someone to nudge us to know that it's OK, and that you need to have some speed if you are going to merge out in front of cars that are already traveling quickly, but at the end of the day, when you're the driver you have to keep Your ability (not someone else's) in mind and use your better judgement.
