    I keep a large unbreakable glass at the laundry sink to mix a half scoop of oxy into hot water. I swirl it until dissolved and add to the wash. At first I just put dry oxy into my wash and was unimpressed. Once I took a moment to liquify it I got great results.

      Yeah and adding Clorox in the normal cleaning is not going to hurt the fabric. Before I used to soak my towels with Clorox for up to 8 hours and my towel become more easily torn.

      As someone who has repaired many washing machines, let me say that I am not a fan of the HEI machines at all. Give me the old school washer with an agitator! Much cheaper to repair and they are much more reliable. I avoid anything with electronic controls and stick to the ones with mechanical timers. Next, I NEVER use the automatic bleach and fabric softener dispensers ever! The bleach is so corrosive that it eats up any metal parts it comes in contact with. Fabric softener leaves a gummy residue in its dispenser. I set my water level to the lowest setting and add my detergent, Oxy, and bleach to the water then let it agitate for several seconds until everything is dissolved. Then I add my clothes and increase my water level if necessary. I’ve seen bleach dispensers ruin machines.

    Love Oxiclean for whites. "Fabric softener - vinegar is great" -- But just in case there may be a few out there who do not know this already, don't add bleach if you added vinegar as fabric softener.

    This is great for urban homes I’m sure- but for the farm, not so much. I have 5 boys and 4 girls and we have really orangey mud- lots of iron in it! Oxyclean doesn’t break down mud. I use something that lathers really well, like dawn or Zote soap, and use a wide scrub brush to get the dirt out. Believe me it won’t even come out of your skin! I also buy large gallon size bottles of 32% (or 28%) peroxide from the pool supply. I use it to sanitize a ton of things and it’s cheaper than oxyclean alone! That oxyclean has brighteners added, but you can buy optical brighteners from art supply stores as well as other products commercial outfits use to get out yellows and iron. OUT has these chemicals in them to help get out iron and yellowing but you can really make your own for cheaper!

    With light colors like pinks, teals & yellows I do the same (use oxiclean whitening) but I also add a bit of bleach & water in with the bleach to dilute it so fabrics don't bleed or get bleach marks. I don't do this to brand new clothes, only after they've been washed a couple times. They are bright & look new! I wash all reds together (NOTHING ELSE) & add a bit of diluted bleach (3 tlbs bleach & 1 1/2 cup water) keeps them bright as well. I've never had any problems. With troubled stains I wet & scrub stain with a bar of lye soap (from cracker barrel) works amazing! My youngest son got into a mustard fight outside at Church in his brand new white shorts, came home 4 hrs later. That lye soap took every bit out, everyone said I should just throw them away but I'm not going to throw away $50 without trying something, I was amazed & have been using ever since!! Hope this helps

    I use 99% pure sodium carbonate which is the active ingredient in OxiClean. You have to dissolve it in hot water first and then I use it the same way you do. I also use it to clean my coffee maker. If I have a really dirty pan with baked-on crud, I boil water in the pan, put a teaspoon or two in (depending on size), and let it sit overnight. The crud basically wipes out with no scrubbing. I wouldn't use it on cast iron though. If you make a paste of it and put it on shower scum and let it sit overnight, the scum just wipes away with no scrubbing. This stuff doesn't work fast, but it works oh so good. I have also used it on my great-grandmother's handmade lace placemats. It's that gentle. It's basically dry hydrogen peroxide so it won't hurt fabrics the way bleach can.

      How do you use coke for the rust spray o come out??

    • @pqsk
      @pqsk Před 2 lety +4

      @@AnitasLoveify you can just use a can of coke or a cup of coke (if you have the big bottle) and just pour it on the area that has the rust and then put soap on it and then wash it with hot water. If the rust is real bad and has been there for a while it may benefit to let it soak for some time. I've never done that, but that's worth a try if it's that bad.

    I have a request. I wear white every day as a professional painter/business owner. I have tried every trick in the book to make and keep my whites white. The scope of my work requires me to be rugged, get dirty while working on the floor, roof tops, ladders etc.. My clothes used to be whiter when using an old school washing machine. The only way to keep them white now is to buy new ones. Can you go around the neighborhood and find a professional painter and ask him/her to wash a load of their whites? Please post a before and after video. We must be clean and look clean when we paint houses. I am not expecting the paint to come off. I want to see if the the dirt stains come out using your method. Thanks in advance. I notice more and more trades are using darker colored uniforms. This dirt is still there regardless of the color in my opinion. White is so much cooler in the sun. Many thanks for this video. I will follow your instructions to see if I get better results.

    I don’t like the new washer/dryer’s. At my office where I work we have a stackable washer/dryer and u can’t leave the lid open on the washer and soak anything. And the dryer has a automatic dry sensor that when it “THINKS” the items are dry it turns off automatically. Well what if u want to turn it back on to get wrinkles out ??? U can’t if their dry. It won’t stay on and unless they are really wet it won’t stay on very long so it doesn’t help us with refreshing and getting wrinkles out . Only works if it’s wet !!!! I hate that .

      Hi Phil! Yes, you can. It really is a wonder product, useful for so many things beyond baking. My mom swore by this use doing her laundry.
      For soaking stains: Depending on the size of the load, use approximately one half cup of baking soda (Hint: even if the expiration date is passed, that just affects its baking properties; you can still use it for cleaning and other applications) and a gallon of water. Mix well and soak the stained clothing for about 15-30 minutes. (Make sure to check beforehand for color fastness. There should not be an issue in most cases but better to be safe.)
      After the time has passed, wring out as much water as possible and just throw the clothing in with the regular laundry detergent (you can also add another 1/4 cup of Baking Soda directly into the tub.)
      Baking Soda acts to soften your clothes too so it makes a great softener without adding any fragrance which is helpful for those with skin or scent sensitivities. If you use Baking Soda, don't add any additional softener to your laundry or dryer.
      I know some people do like a lovely scent on their cothing; you might be able to add the scent beads to accomplish that however, I don't know if there would be any issues with mixing the beads and Baking Soda, so youre on your own there.
      Hope this helps! Good luck!
