(To the angry black men that were mad at her for marrying interracially)"......where were you to step in and make me an offer I couldn't refuse?" WHHEEEW CHIIIIILE' PREACH!!!!!
they are gonna hate her for that ending!!
@Bold & Beautiful You're absolutely right!!! It just frustrates me how black women get played soooo easily 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ but thanks to the internet a lot of black women, young and old, are finally waking up and putting themselves first.
@@brwnhilarybanks9953 They'd hate her either way, so at least she valued her own happiness over the approval of strangers that have nothing to offer her 🤷🏾♀️
Whitley you president of the bedwench foundation?
@@hebrewthought9976 President of the broke dustys association? The people that have the least offer always have the most to say 😒😒😒
Look how Happy, Vibrant, Feminine, Sophisticated and BEAUTIFUL she is. You can see she has PEACE in her life and EVERYTHING is working for her.
Ever Gorgeous you sound stupid, I'm married to a beautiful, intelligent loving black man.
@Ever Gorgeous : Their chickens came home to roost. Look at the white women calling cops on black guys for no valid reasons.
Ever Gorgeous you are bitter my dear. sounding like an old wrench....ouch!!!
Ever Gorgeous go and take your medication, you are sick. My beautiful burnt BLACK GOLD MAN ABSOLUTELY ADORES ME. We are very happy. My Mother and Father has been married for over 30 yrs, stop with your ignorance all men are not the same. check back when u and your so called white man has been together that long. so go and run along.
@Ever Gorgeous Couldn't agree more, but you can't tell wives like her nothing. I tell wives like her they're not with their hasbeens all day everyday, so she REALLY don't know what he's doing. Most black husband's ACT single at WORK; take other people (not necessarily women) to lunch, flirting at the gym - girl please. I wouldn't trust a black man to give me the time of day. Most black wives have attitudes and short tempers because they're mad on the inside dealing with their hasbeens mess.
She did a great job playing Ms. Josephine Baker too!
She was phenomenal!
Yes, just spectacular!
Lee Sto fetish

Why do Black Women have to justify dating or marrying outside their race, but Black Men don't.

Now this is the question!! As a non-American i've been trying to wrap my head around this. Because all i see in media, especially wealthy bmen, is them with other non black women.
So nice to hear from our veterans in the industry. She’s a phenomenal actor.

Amen. Marry who you want to marry as long as you love one another.
To black women do you find your happiness. Enjoy life and forget the haters just saying.
How did she find her happiness when the white husband made her a single mom?

OK Lynn. Keeping it very, very real sis. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Miss Klassy, Of course, you liars know the perfect time to show up with your stereotypes and generalization of BM. If you’re so happy why does it matter what BM do? Since when is interracial dating one-upping each other? You people have the wrong mentality.
I, enjoyed that interview as well!
She is still so gorgeous...
@Oral Powell Anita Baker, Jill Scott, Nancy Wilson, Melba Moore, Patti LaBelle, Vanessa L. Williams, Yolanda Adams were married to black men. Beyonce, Shanice Wilson, Latanya Richardson, Viola Davis, Monique are married to black men. I am trying to understand the point that you are trying to make.

We as Black women better do what makes us happy....periodt!
Marrying ugly white men who leave you with a baby is making you happy? Lmaoo
+N.W.A. Would it have been better if she was with a black man who leaves her as a single mother? And let's be honest, that happens much more with black men.
Mary Allen, I agree 100%. I'm a black woman that is educated, loving and attractive, but I have to admit; I have more white men that are paying attention to me than the black men. I love black men, but as to black women, we are not being loved like we deserve to be nor even being paid attention to....so, what's a woman to do? Wait?...I definitely believe in love no matter the color. Forget the backlash and be happy.
@@katelinparks9536false
Don't come back to black men later... 👎👎👎👎
I think people assume that when black folks marry outside their race that they prefer somebody white and not black. That's usually not the case. Most of the time that person just happened to meet somebody they like and have a lot in common with.
I agree...
Thanks, been saying that forever!!!
not when their dating history says different it means they have a type (if I see a black man and he has only dated "other" to me that means he is not interested in black women)
The only sensible comment here.
THANK YOU!!!
Lynn is totally charming. She truly brought her "A" game in "Nappily..."
She is fabulous. Who she loves is her business.

I love Lynn Whitfield. She is so beautiful, talented and graceful. Both of my sisters married white men and when black men give them the side eye for marrying outside of their race, they say exactly the same thing “Where were you to make an offer that I couldn’t refuse?”🤨 I have been divorced for 5 years now, I have yet to meet a black man who is mature, and ready for a serious relationship. I am now dating an Asian man. I am not going to hope or wait on a black man. 🤷🏽♀️
Y’all are pathetic
I've been loving her since a "Thin Line Between Love and Hate"! She is one of my all time favorite actress! You go girl!
I married interracially. I married a white man. This is not a reflection of self hatred, it’s a reflection of the love I have for another human being. In 2018, why is this still a thing?
You have self hate. Just like Serena Williams. Admit it.
It is a things because people choose to be ignorant.
Funny how y'all never give Black Men that pass lol it's all hypocrisy
Closed minded people ALWAYS find 'a thing' to be angry about... just sayin
N.W.A. Bitch shut the fuck up
This interview is so much more than about her marrying outside her race. Love it!
OOoh ESSENCE ! Thats a cover that REALLY needs to exist!!!!!!
Not really. It's always funny how our community owes people shit....while they owe us nothing. GTFOH.
Josephine Baker's story isn't one that up holds our story ....anyway. maybe some France mag should give her that cover...how about that
@Lee Sto by sleeping with white man
T R now I wouldn’t be surprised if they contacted her for one since she put them on blast which I am beyond shocked. Didn’t know that🤷🏾♀️ 🤦🏾♀️
@@nakrwa I definetly understand your viewpoint, as well as everyone elses. I would think that it's harder for black men to succeed for hundreds of reasons. But at the end of the video when she says "Where were you?" directed at black men, I think it's unfair to expect black men to be able to break barriers as effectively as black women, because women are seen as weaker and therefore more easily connect to everyone including white dominated social groups, industries, etc.
Edit: What do you think?
I think this is the first interview I have watched of her. I have been mezmorized by her since I watched Josephine Baker. She has a regal air about her. I had never seen someone so perfected in character. She made you think she was the real Josephine Baker. And you can't forget Thin Line.. Man she's so fire! 🔥🔥
AK Gordari, that's the right word, "regal." She has a sophisticated flair and ambience to herself that is effortless.

I love Lynn. I had the pleasure of meeting her after a play years ago. She embodies positive energy.
She's so beautiful & sophisticated
As a black woman I could care less what anyone thinks about me seeing men of different races. No one is born with a tag attached saying: You must only be with someone who looks just like you. Black people especially need to wake up and enjoy life, and be open to being loved by someone other than someone black. There are too many beautiful men in the world.
v t As the product of an interracial couple, let me just say that it’s no one’s business!
Word
Have at it
v t the correct term is couldn't care less
And to be frank----BLACK women need to wake up and find love in other colors. It doesn't always have to look like you. So many black beautiful women are alone because "we are looking for a "brother" to complete us. Well sometimes it not going to be a "brother" it's going to look like John with the blue eyes.
Ms Whitfield is right about relationships. She looks amazing and her outfit is everything.
I am a black man and I have no problems with anyone dating outside their race. This is a free country. You can date/marry whoever you want. Ms. Whitfield needs to ignore those who have criticized her for dating White men. If those who are criticizing you are not feeding you, housing you, taking care of you, then why should have care about what they have to say?
She is absolutely beautiful
I dont have anything against any other race, I'm just a black woman whose prefence is the black man. To each his own
Wickedly Jaded : The irony of your statement. Are non-blk men competing to get with black women, the way black women are competing to get with them? When have u seen non-blk men building Interracial platforms the way y'all do? Lol, I can't with yall messiness.
@@plantiron totally agree
@Wickedly Jaded maybe I'm a little closed minded, but I have never met a white man that I'm attracted to. I just love darker skin. Just my choice. However your insight is appreciated. Ty
@Wickedly Jaded I understand that, but I've not yet had that connection, and I'm not pursuing anyone, no matter what race, but again, thank you for the insight.
I am not knocking any race, ppl can date whomever they want to, whether black white or other. I'm just not a basher of the black man...no matter what, not saying that you are. Other races don't bash thier men. Also there has to be some type of attraction, be it, spiritual, physical or otherwise and I'm not going to let statistics drive me crazy. There're lot of statistics about black ppl period, and I don't pay attention to those either, or I won't let myself live. I'll just wait for my connection. Maybe I'll be alone maybe not, but either way I'll be a happy person. A man does not define me.
This is one beautiful Louisiana woman. Love her, pure class!
she has sharp african features , her daughter looks so much like her.
I just LOVE Ms Lynn! Her and Ms Bassett have been my favs since childhood! I’m so happy she did this interview. Her personality makes me love her more!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
So sad that this representation of black womanhood is not as honored today. That to strive to be like her could be seen as "respectability politics" at play...I'm a black woman from a Southern background. Proudly "uppity", open minded, and I still sit with my legs crossed at the ankle!😏
Love me some Lynn Whitfield! She's talented and real, true to who she is!!!
Beverly LaGrant yeah she true to who she is just like the rest of the black women self hate their own hair so they run behind white men to try to get babies with so-called good hair because she started out talking about her hair remember
Lynn is such a pleasure to listen to. never think i've seen an interview of her before.
I’m glad she spoke on not getting the Essence cover. Give Lynn her just due!!
I hope to age with such youthfulness, beauty, wit and charm.
omg, you were named after 2 aunties, Sharon and Veronica. that's hella cute.
Thank you Ms. Lynn! Yes, you should have been on the cover of Essence! Maybe they'll do a tribute for the anniversary of that performance *wink* And yes, I loathe when people, a lot of black men especially, get upset that black women stop waiting around for a black man to want, honor, be committed to, and marry her. They don't make themselves visible until AFTER the women marry someone else. (Look at Serena... All we ever heard black men talk about was her body, but who spoke on and let it be known that he even wanted to be a supportive, faithful husband to have his only children with her?!)
Black women are so delusional...by the way black men love serena...lets talk about the artist that saw her as a beast..but of course yall ignore that from the white male artist(thats his true colors showing)..we as men are not mad at your dating preference..we just wish yall would just go with white zaddy and stop trying to diss the brothers at the same time.if you jumped the fence its really no reason to talk about the brothers anymore..lol...theres plenty more sisters for us..i just dont understand how people could date or marry their oppressor..black women (not all) just blindly ignore history..have a good day sis..just my opinion
Jessie C Love that's bullshyt. Serena ghetto ass just didn't want to share her life with a black man. Her and her sister straight from the hood. Yet they run after white men. Notice none of her other sisters are with white men.
Jessie C Love its always a bullshyt answer. These sistas know brothas try and date them. They lusy after white men just like black men do with white females
@@tommyforte7157 Curse yourself not me. Serena is all you can try to come back with? You sound big mad; especially with the need to use profanity. My only question is, who did Serena date before she got married? Did you see her with a load of European decent men?
@@LOGICAL-JAY Funny. Black women have stood on the front line for ya'll so thick! A lot of our men are the first to disrespect us on wax, call us THOT based on what the KKK use to call us, and promote us as sex toys in videos, yet talk about the oppressor? I guess the same way that a lot of black men marry the white woman; a possible symbol of who suppressed, beat, mocked, and had the black woman breast feed her children. A lot of our black men want to play house for years and have the black woman playing a wife... Far too many of our black men have children with several women, yet point a finger? You knew upon sight if you would wife her or play with her... Talking about it's not normal for men to be with one...Nevertheless, I'm so glad that you are married to the mother of your child(ren) and are faithful to the home you share with her. We need that to build wealth in the black community... Go reach back and teach our young men how to do that too. I LOVE HOW SHE SUBLIMINALLY BLAMED HER MOM FOR NEVER LIKING OR SEEING HER NATURAL HAIR. BLACK MOMS ARE TO BLAME AND I DON'T CARE WHO DOESN'T LIKE THE TRUTH! PERIOD! LOVE THE HAIR THAT GROWS OUT OF YOUR SCALP! STOP WALKING OUTSIDE WITH A BONNET, SCARF, OR HAT ON BECAUSE YOU ARE ASHAMED OF YOUR HAIR. OR BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE YOUR HAIR "DONE". I REMEMBER MY MOM COMBING MY HAIR AS A CHILD SAYING "WHEW, GIRL YOU HAVE SOME BAD HAIR". YOU KNOW WHAT THAT COULD DO TO A CHILD? THEN STARTING RELAXING (PERMING) MY HAIR AT ABOUT AGE 6 AND BURNED A BALD SPOT IN THE BACK OF MY HEAD. I ALWAYS SAW PEOPLE THAT LOOKED LIKE ME WEARING WEAVES AND WIGS ON THEIR HEAD SO FOR MANY YEARS, I THOUGHT THAT WAS WHAT WE WERE SUPPOSE TO DO....THEN I WOKE UP!
I so relate I fell in love with my natural hair feeling the waves and curl of my own hair

Do You Boo, Do You!!!!
Ms Whitfield I met you in passing on the french quarter some years ago the 90's you are just as beautiful now as then bless you
This is my life here. Relaxer at 6 years old and I couldn’t tell you what my hair looks like. It was my daughter who inspires me. Still relaxed but thinking long and hard about doing away with it.
here's my thing, like I like how she approached the topic in the sense that she didn't go the defensive route.. and she didn't say something like "well I prefer white men and that's all to it" period, however, I will say, I feel like it's a cop out when black men or women say "well I chose a white partner because where were are all the good black men or women when I was looking?" because you're basically saying there are no good black men or women out there who are interested in approaching you or who are up to your standards, which to me is a cop out, if you as a black woman or black man feel you are enough and posses all the things someone would want, why then do you have a perception that there aren't other equally successful, amazing, classy, intelligent, well established black men or women out there who are looking for the same?, I mean if you really wanted a black man or woman in particular, then you know dam well how to go out and find what you're looking for until you find it, is the type of black man or woman you're looking for just supposed to fall in your lap?, I mean, you're a beautiful, successful, intelligent, classy black woman and obviously there are equally beautiful, successful, intelligent, classy black men or women who are looking for the same.. so if you really wanted a black man or woman, you could have had or have one..I can respect you more if you just said, "you know, race wasn't and isn't important to me, whoever I fall for is who I fall for"..I can respect that more than blaming the whole race of black men or women and saying "where were you?", alluding to black men or women being inadequate and unavailable because that's a flat out lie... my question is if you were really looking for a black man or woman, "how hard were you looking for him or her if you really wanted him or her?"
It is not BW's job to go and search, the men are hunters.
Thinking you are classy and being classy are two different things
Saying "where were you" does not in anyway allude to the race being inadequate, it means they literally were not around simply as that.
YOU and I never went to the same school and have never been coworkers, so I never had the good fortune of meeting YOU. That's a simple factual truth.
I went to a school where majority of the Black men liked mixed girls, period. When mixed wasn't enough they went all the way outside.
The 1 Black guy in our grade happy to date a dark skin girl DID
And she wasn't me.
Where were the others?
If there was another one nobody knew because he didn't approach US. Simply our misfortune.
Meanwhile the Hispanic boys loved their own AND Black girls. Dark black girls.
Eventually I dated a Spanish boy meanwhile all my Black girlfriends stayed single and lovesick over guys who treated them as invisible because they weren't exotic with silky hair. Or they had a crush on dome Chris brown looking boy who was dating his equivalent .
Race was important to them, they didn't feel comfortable with non-blacks.
But I wasn't like that.
Black men were my PREFERENCE but not my "goal". I like who likes me. When random Black dudes started asking me why I was with who I was with it was extremely hypocritical. Guys that never asked me to a dance never gave me valentines lol. Then they got out of line telling me I should have waited for a Black guy. Um, no. I will not shut down good Ppl I know exist for a hypothetical nobody based on race. Naturally friendships develop into relationships, I'm friends with all races and I can see myself romantically with any race and I'm comfortable with that VS as a child I thought races had to stick to each other and shied away until one too many Spanish boys kept asking me on dates and crushing on me while my Black male friends only saw me as a friend. That has nothing to do with inadequacy that's just life.
And just like I didn't like EVERY boy that has ever liked me you haven't had chemistry with every person that has crushed on you. Regardless of race or finances.
That "perfect" black counterpart is not in everyone's experience. Should those Spanish men not have found me equal to or BETTER than their women? Its life
Black Women Have NO FRIENDS it’s not the black womans job to do anything apparently but to have abortions, have kids out of wedlock, and take take take lmao.
@@blackwomenhavenofriends8319 sorry that's bs, if you want something you go out and get it, nothing is going to fall in your lap... this is 2018, what are you Joan of the Ark, Princess Nefetti? like it's 2018, if you're waiting for the "perfect" black man or the the black man who you think is worthy of you to approach you, then he could have very well just passed you, go for what you want... this is why so many black ppl are without partners waiting for knight in shinning armor to fall in their laps, it don't work that way, go for what you want it's 2018, forget that old fashion crap
you be waiting forever for a decent black guy if you want one
Malcolm M,I am a Melanin woman and you are absolutely correct.
Everyone has choices on who they want to date or marry now you hear some say they don't want someone whose not established, if a man or woman whatever race they are is not good enough for you when their struggling, they're not good enough for you when they're established.
@@The1baddman l
The1baddman ..those seeking established partners must be as such
Malcolm M these bitches never wanted a black man they always wanted a white person dont let the talk fool you.
She’s so epic & Iconic. Like wine she’s so elegant & transparent♥️
Love this QUEEN!!!!
Such a great part in Greenleaf, Cant wait to start Nappily Ever After !!!!!!
Before I date outside my race, I'd rather be alone for the rest of my life. Knowing the history, I just couldn't do it. The only thing a white woman can do for me is get the hell outta my way. Just saying....
Blaq By Design agreed! However, to each their own.....if it’s really true love-love sees no color. I just hate when people do things for the wrong reasons. For me personally, as a black woman, I’d rather have a black man.
To each their own
Lol. That's hilarious 😂
yeah that ain't gonna get sistas knockin on your door for saying that, bruh
@@EraCane20 I'm not trying to. I'm just stating facts here. Not opinion. 🤷🏾♂️
I’m not wearing wigs to dinner anymore after watching this!
don't wear them, period
Rock your wig if you want to Sis.
T T I do🤣! But she made a good point about at dinner.
Lechiffresix six I wouldn’t but I’d like to stay married 🤫😍.
She is one of my favorite actors. A real Queen! So classy and beautiful. I love her!
Oh Ms. Whitfield I remember seeing you at Anna's when you brought your daughter to get her hair done. Such a humble sweet lady.
I'm A Huge Fan... I Loved Her In The Women Of Brewster's And The Josephine Baker Story... Her Daughter Is Beautiful... She Doesn't Look Like Her Mother However... She Has Her Mom's Head/Chin... 😘✌
Let's be honest. Her daughter is NOT beautiful. People act like everyone with light skin is gorgeous n it's simply not true.
Derrick Barnett ... Hey... That's Not True Bruh... She's Definitely Not Ugly... Im Brown Skinned... I Can Give A Compliment When It's Due... Doesn't Matter... Black White Gay Or Straight... Im Pretty Confident In My Self... Peace And Love...😘✌
I'm genuinely confused. WHY DO PEOPLE GET UPSET over who someone else - a stranger - marries? SHE'S NOT MARRYING YOU, so why do you let it bother you? It's more ridiculous that she has to explain her choice of partner in response to the backlash.
You're my inspiration Mrs Lynn. I love all your movies. thank you.
She's so pure
Thank you for sharing ... She is Beautiful in and out !! God bless her!!!❤
Gorgeous... She could play SADE
Aaaaaaaaw :-( I'm sorry to hear that you went through that dear. Ofcourse we are a society affected very much by racism and interracial couples still pay that price to this day. I am a big fan, and the Josephine Baker story is definitely in my collection. I remember when it premiered on HBO. Greenleaf is a very powerful show. A thin line between love and hate, you were absolutely perfect! thank you Miss Lynn Whitfeild.
Eartha Kitt was interviewed and this is what she was asked.
M:"Do you think you faced a lot of resentment just because you were married to a white man."
E: "Oh yes, that caused the resentment. I was married to Bill McDonald in 1960. People would say ‘Why didn’t you marry a Black man?’ I would reply “because the white girls had them!” The men I wanted to be with, Sidney Poitier, Harry Belafonte, dated predominatly white women. I’m talking about the 50s. When Harry Belfonte picks me out of his bed in Philadelphia and said: ‘I don’t want you to take me seriously because no Black woman can do anything for me’. I could not help him to progress into where he was going to go. “A black woman would hold a black man back’, that’s what he told me. If I wanted to marry a black man there wasn’t one because the white girls had them."
