    There were real rivalries in the past bec the NBA rules back then allowed players to play fiercely and physical on both ends of the floor. More than allowing handchecking and tolerating hard fouls, the rules back then gave offensive and defensive players equal opportunity to do what they had to within the rules of the game. On offense, players could dip the shoulders and use an off-arm to protect the ball as long as you don't extend your off-arm. Example, watch clips of Shaq-Mutombo in the Finals or Shaq-Zo or Shaq-Rodman games. Players were allowed to set solid picks as long as they didn't move. On defense, players were given the chance to defend their spot and use their arms and legs as long as you didn't grab, hold or trip your opponent. A bit like meshing soccer rules with basketball.

    This was the era of basketball I grew up with. I remember enjoying it and I like watching these videos but .... maybe fans of the game today have a point. This stuff was brutal. The outside shooting was terrible. The inside game was violent as hell.

      I agree. The older generation enjoyed it but if you wanna watch fights you could just watch fighting sports. People watch you play and especially kids and I don't want them to think that you can fight your opponents in a bball game. But it's just me

    • @trainerrob1622
      @trainerrob1622 Před 2 lety +12

      Outside shooting was terrible because the offensive player didn`t have every advantage on the defensive player in terms of how the rules were tilted and its the same thing today just in reverse. There`s zero post or low block game also because of the way the rules have changed and given such a big advantage to perimeter players. Entire skill sets have been lost and the game has gotten easier to play as a perimeter player. If a bit sad watching today`s game and seeing entire phase of the game just not being played.

    • @trainerrob1622

      @Insane Ioe I actually played the game professionally for 11 seasons. The problem here is that you watch basketball but you don`t fully understand what you are watching. Dribble, pass, shoot. That`s all you see and that`s all you understand...
