    Reminds me of a large GoPro, DP Merrill Series or a Red Box Camera. The packaging is the same as from the DP Merrill series. They include the same minimum accessories, except with DP Merrill's you'd get two batteries included VS the one in that box. I think Sigma should come out with a pre-Quattro Foveon Version of this camera, but that would probably be hard to do due to the 3 layered sensor and the fact you can't shoot high ISO and dismal battery use. I hated, hated the Quattro series. LOVED the DP Merrill series.

      Never had the chance to shoot the Merrill but heard good things about them in the day. I actually really enjoy the sd Quattro H, but that's just me. Can't wait for the full frame Foveon, hopefully soon!!

    I have never seen that quattro before but man, that screen / menu looked pretty cool ! On the fence w/ the Sigma FP right now, just researching more and more about it.. Heard a new firmware is coming soon, which is supposedly gonna help the camera out a lot..

      You are welcome. Yes, this is something we need to test. I think a large part of the market for this camera is going to be users of manual lenses.

      @@johnteichman1478 something like leica m to L mount will be popular, small manual lenses with precision and high image quality.

    Thanks for the in-depth video. If you're doing autofocus next please test the video continuous autofocus as well. Last time I checked it wasn't that good. Thank you!

      I'm finally getting some time to play with it. Hopefully I will have a video uploaded in the next couple of days. Looks like focusing is going to be a challenge but I really want to test it well first before my final conclusion. It's going to be interesting mounted on my AK4500 :-)

    I was surprised to see that lens just fell out of the cardboard packaging, and it wasn't even in a little pouch or anything. Please keep us updated about the battery life you experience. Thanks also for showing us how much delay there seems to be, when shooting stills. The auto-focus seemed to work pretty quick. There's a lot to say, and I won't say it all. I'll leave it at that for now. Thank you! BTW, here is a link to a battery kit from Wasabi (I have some Wasabi batteries for my Nikon D810, and they're great!). You'll see that they're identical to the ones you will find if you search for "Wasabi batteries DP Quattro" (but they're $4 less for some reason: www.amazon.com/Wasabi-Power-Pansonic-DMW-BLC12-BP-DC12-U/dp/B07644F535/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=wasabi+batteries+FZ1000&qid=1573394433&sr=8-5

      Good point Scott. It's interesting because if you've ever purchased a Sigma lens they come in these really padding containers, actually some of the best packaging I've seen. With this kit they definitely cut back. I'm assuming to save on the packing size.

    Very nice video, the lag between shot to shot is that slow though?

    • @johnteichman1478
      @johnteichman1478  Před 4 lety

      That was straight "out-of-the-box". By default it has single shot with a 2 second preview. You can turn off the preview and put the drive mode in high speed. That will get you between 12 and 24 continuous shots.

      No problem. I've been busy the last couple of days but finally getting around to the focus testing (which looks like it might be a challenge! ). Hopefully I'll have an upload in the next day or two.

    Think that they have priced this wrong, $2000.
    Would you take this over, say over a Sony A7iii which is approx $1700?
    If they could have brought this in at around the $1000 mark they would sell bucket loads.

    • @johnteichman1478
      @johnteichman1478  Před 4 lety +2

      At a $1,000 it would be an insanely good value! :-) Comparing it to the Sony A7iii, I think Sigma is pushing the formats (bit depth/rate, raw DNG, etc), the modular design (for example in a drone as well as a rig), and native L mount lenses from the three companies. Also, some are making the claim that the image quality of the stills is better than the Sony. I don't have a Sony so there is no way for me to confirm that. When it comes to AF, no question Sony kills it. As for the quality of the output, we will see as more people review it.

    That was my dream camera but the 1/30 x-sync is a real problem for a studio photographer...

    • @johnteichman1478
      @johnteichman1478  Před 4 lety

      I agree. I'm going to make a follow-up video about why I got this camera but that one feature is a big limitation. It would fit my work so much better if it had a standard sync speed.

    • @cucumberworks
      @cucumberworks Před 4 lety

      @Chris The low iso is a neat feature but it combines multiple shots to mimic the effect of low iso, so a tripod is necessary for that. I also got banding from artificial lights. If your shutter speed doesn't work with the flashing frequency of your artificial light source(like a fluorescent lamp). But otherwise if you know your needs and its limitations it is a really good camera. I enjoy adapting manual lenses to it.

    • @scottelly2
      @scottelly2 Před 4 lety

      I don't think the 1/30 sync. is such a problem. When you're in the studio, you have control over your lighting well enough that you don't need to have your ambient lights turned way up, and if you're shooting with strobes, that's what's going to freeze your subject anyway. I can see if you're trying to shoot an event with an on-camera flash, and you want to get the background scene in by using a high ISO, like ISO 800 OR 1600, and you don't want as much motion blur of moving background subjects, then it would be a problem, but if you're trying to get the background to be bright, in order to make the scene look realistic, rather than just having a really dark background, I'd think you'd be shooting at low shutter speeds like 1/30 and 1/15 anyway, most of the time. That's what I do now, and I don't have an fp. I use the slower shutter speed, becuase I prefer to use the lowest ISO setting I can get away with, because I hate the noise produced by higher ISO settings.

    Is the battery the same one used in the DP Merrill or Quattro cameras? What is the # on it?

    • @johnteichman1478
      @johnteichman1478  Před 4 lety

      It uses the 51 battery, same as the DP Quattros. Not the same as the Merrill or SD H cameras.
