    I can confirm it's fabulous in VR. I think you had the perfect word for it, freedom. The flight model, sound and visibility make it a great VR experience.

    What an utterly beautiful old classic, one of the true greats in my opinion. They’ve done a great job modelling her, couple of dodgy bits on the textures though but for a tenner I think that’s ok. Great video and an interesting choice of fields to test an old bi plane!

    One of these gave rides at the airport I flew at. In person, bigger than you'd expect. In FS, I like the low-and-slow types, and she's a sweetie pie. Very easy landing, despite the tail dragger design.

      I met them with my family a few weeks ago. Lovely people, very friendly. Their Stearmans are fantastic, with 450 hp P&W Wasp Junior engines - the sound they make is awesome! The team are now called AeroSuperBatics and are the world's only formation aerobatic wingwalking display team. The things they do, both flying and wingwalking, are truly amazing!

    Tempted to give it a go, was convinced i wouldnt need another bi-plane but you definitely had some selling points on the visibility - the Waco is quite limited and I was really hoping for it to be a better sightseer in VR. A little put off by the lack of co-pilot head, but I'm sure that'll be addressed in an update soon enough! Loving these reviews, very informative - you helped me make a wise decision in getting that Islander! 👍

      Thanks G Flo, I try to give information that isn’t in the dev blurb... other reviewers tend to just read the blurb which tbh... is on the websites. I’d honestly say this is a little gem and for a great price! Reviewing these things certainly isn’t cheap!

    This looks great, especially for the price! I've been waiting for a biplane that's not as twitchy as the Pitts and not as modernized as the Waco. Also if you'd like a grass field closer to home, there's EGCB in Manchester.

    To bad these aren't made anymore. Imagine a carbon-fiber modern version. I guarantee that it would sell. Some people removed the front seat and put sprayers so the Stearman was commonly used as a crop-duster and of course there are people who would want to own their own Stearman but can't afford to buy an antique airplane.

    Sorry, but I much prefer the version from Golden Age Simulations. It can have the front seat occupied if you want, and the occupant can be clothed as a military trainee or a civilian passenger, and can be either male or female. It comes in multiple variants, so you can fly the Stearman PT-13 (Navy N2S-3). or Boeing PT-17 (N2S-5). There are also a variety of civilian liveries available. The luggage compartment is represented as well. It also also has the complete start sequence, including the hand-crank. The only downside is that the GS version is older and only for FSX and Prepar3d. To me all the goodies far outweigh that one negative. Until Golden Age makes one for MSFS, I'll stick with P3D for my Stearman, thanks.

  • @BGLENN-dp4tx
    @BGLENN-dp4tx Před rokem

    There is an unacceptable flaw in the instrument indications. Specifically, the “needle and ball”. Any experienced pilot knows the importance of this instrument and it’s proper use to maintain balanced flight especially in marginal visibilities and in the slow speed, high AOA regimes. This is an important indicator of P-factor and torque and it’s impact on balanced flight. The preflight instrument indications when the Stearman ( or any aircraft is sitting level on the ground ) is “ball and needle centered”. In this software, it is NOT. And, in flight, attempting to use this indicator results in out-of-balance aerodynamics in a way that confirms the out-of-limits ground indications. In real life, a mech would simply rotate the instrument slightly to bring the “ball” to center. It is purely driven by gravity on the ground and by dynamic flight forces airborne. The net results of this instrument’s error is unavoidable flying around in unbalanced flight. The only solution (until patching the software) is to fly around with the “ball” left of center and the needle in the same position as when the plane’s parked.
