This was a great video topic, surely of interest to many of your viewers. I like Eveline, clearly an independent and go get lady. 50000E is just over £42000. Seems good value to me as the house is liveable with a couple of good stone outbuildings and there is enough land to produce a good amount of home grown food. When you look at all the work and money that has gone into some of the Portugal off-grid buildings, seems like a good option, a lovely location and perhaps near enough to amenities? I am guessing if Eveline is going to convert to two units then she could let one as air b&b and draw an income.

Often times Portugal coverage consists mainly of the two big cities, so I'm glad you're showing us other parts of the beautiful country. While on my Google quest, I read that purslane while high in nutrition for humans, it is toxic for cats, just in case, I wanted to pass it along to Eveline as she has cats at home. Her new home looks wonderful: the views and the new adventure with the renovations. Cheers =)
I admire people like Evelyn who put it into their mind to make a move such as hers. I was born in Portugal and left as a child. I want to return at some point but I'm held back because of family in 🇨🇦. I hope to at least spend half a year at a time in Portugal in the not so distant future. 🙏 Time will tell. Wow, what a brave woman. Do you know who is going to do the renovations? A part of me would love to live a similar lifestyle with lots of fruit trees, have some chickens and a vegetable garden. On the other hand, I am what one would labeled as high maintenance🤣 I am afraid of most creepy crawlers and mosquitoes would eat me to my death. I had a hard time finding a builder, but I found now a local builder who going to do it. Slight different plan though. I will have an indoor staircase, bathroom upstairs and the shed next door will have another bathroom and kitchen and dining room. The problem was the water supply and waste.

Portugal's Dirty Little Secret: I am sitting at a cafe in Tavira overhearing a conversation between two young women. One just came to Portugal to take care of her grandmother who was assaulted and robbed by the small Tavira Real Estate Agency she was renting her apartment from. I am hearing more and more of these attacks on retirees coming to Portugal during the last year. I no longer go near any small real estate agency in Portugal. I have heard of similar incidents where retirees have been attacked east of Albufeira in areas like Quarteria and Olhao. I only use the large reputable companies. I guess that should be the case with most businesses today. I hope this practice doesn't spread to other parts of Portugal.

I´m an older adult, now a widower, with a Schengen passport, plans for Coimbra & Madeira, & tempted by the low prices of the Castelo Branco surroundings throug the very nice CZcams videos of "Luís Baptista - Agente Imobiliáro". I even had a house & a BMW car in a very good neighborhood in Hamburg, which I sold in 1985, after marrying in Argentina. Why Portugal? It´s an "allied" neutral country... Greetings. 🙂

I have a question though you mentioned tax numbers I got mine through our solicitor as I am in the UK and was in the process of buying a property could you explain why that was a problem and what I should be awere of. Thanks a now slightly concerned martin.
Trying to change your address was a nightmare (Vlog #12). Just make sure you get registered on the financas portal now while you are still at your UK address. That's where they will send your password. There is also a very easy way to do it (how I did it in the end)...but for some reason they like to keep that a secret and pretend like it's not an option!
Loving your journeys! We are building a house from total scratch after buying a small plot of land in the Serra de Aire e Candeeiros in a small village. It seems to be totally different to most others who were renovating. We decided it was less of a risk to a tight budget and gave us the chance to design a house that fit us. We have a really good friend who is the architect and construction lead and speaks perfect English. It was a win-win for us. It’s taken a while to get here where the plans have been submitted and approved, and hopefully it will get underway when we return home from the U.K. next month. It’s going to be an interesting journey for us and we hope to record it all for posterity! Keep the great work up, and I hope you find your dream house too xx

We get back in a couple of weeks and I will probably do one about how we started off and how we used a geo-portal on our municipalities web site to check the feasibility of getting planning for our house. It has surprisingly been relatively quick, but perhaps it is because we want to showcase how a super insulated modern house built using sustainable materials and heated and powered economically, and yet blends in to the environment IS possible. We were lucky knowing an architect that understands our needs and helped us on our journey. But if we can do it…
UK nif is ok if you live with someone and you trust them to open your mail while you're in Portugal. I could use my parents place, and that's probably what I'll do, eventually.

Lovely plot of land and ditto house. Also curious how did she end up in Scotland. What did she do that she can retire so early. I want to do this too! Wouldn't be alone alone but my boyfriend is disabled so would have to do everything alone.
I emigrated to Scotland in 2005, working in the NHS as a respiratory physiologist. (technician) In 2010 I started working as a locum all over the UK and saved up. I used my savings to retire early and being able to buy this property.
Puslane is an EXCELLENT food for people and animals, and the fact it grows so well there is a bonus. It grows as a weed in SoCal, (our weather is very similar to Central Portugal). That is amazing to have a field of purslane!!!

Hi love ur real life down to earth videos...I have always wanted to live in spain or Portugal but by the time i have come around to do it BRIXIT happened so we have been stock n cant move out of the uk as yet dou to heath reason my husband is a long term diabetic n has heart problems thats why we wanted live somewhere out of the uk.. But we're still thinking of moving to portugal..How can i get nif number when I'm still here in the uk please..any help or advice from someone that has already done this will be much welcome. You can still travel and move to Portugal. It may not be as easy but it is still possible. I suggest going onto the expats site for info on the niff (the link is in the description) you’ll get plenty advice and help there. Or just use a search engine and you will find lots if info on that. It's never nice to hear of people getting ripped-off. I think people confuse Portugal with the fact that it has low crime not no crime.

Trying to change your address was a nightmare (Vlog #12). Just make sure you get registered on the financas portal now while you are still at your UK address. That's where they will send your password. There is also a very easy way to do it (how I did it in the end)...but for some reason they like to keep that a secret and pretend like it's not an option!
Loving your journeys! We are building a house from total scratch after buying a small plot of land in the Serra de Aire e Candeeiros in a small village. It seems to be totally different to most others who were renovating. We decided it was less of a risk to a tight budget and gave us the chance to design a house that fit us. We have a really good friend who is the architect and construction lead and speaks perfect English. It was a win-win for us. It’s taken a while to get here where the plans have been submitted and approved, and hopefully it will get underway when we return home from the U.K. next month. It’s going to be an interesting journey for us and we hope to record it all for posterity! Keep the great work up, and I hope you find your dream house too xx

@@Solo50plus we certainly want to show it. Not much on CZcams when you search for new builds in Portugal. We get back in a couple of weeks and I will probably do one about how we started off and how we used a geo-portal on our municipalities web site to check the feasibility of getting planning for our house. It has surprisingly been relatively quick, but perhaps it is because we want to showcase how a super insulated modern house built using sustainable materials and heated and powered economically, and yet blends in to the environment IS possible. We were lucky knowing an architect that understands our needs and helped us on our journey. But if we can do it…

UK nif is ok if you live with someone and you trust them to open your mail while you're in Portugal. I could use my parents place, and that's probably what I'll do, eventually.
Problem is UK address on your NIF is no good when you need to do deal with the bureaucracy in Portugal. It has to match your Portuguese address.

For sure they have builders and contractors here in Portugal! You would need planning though if it's more than a like-for-like renovation.

Lovely plot of land and ditto house. Also curious how did she end up in Scotland. What did she do that she can retire so early. I want to do this too! Wouldn't be alone alone but my boyfriend is disabled so would have to do everything alone.
I emigrated to Scotland in 2005, working in the NHS as a respiratory physiologist. (technician) In 2010 I started working as a locum all over the UK and saved up. I used my savings to retire early and being able to buy this property.
Like many of lots of forward planing, hard work, saving and sacrifice 😊

Puslane is an EXCELLENT food for people and animals, and the fact it grows so well there is a bonus. It grows as a weed in SoCal, (our weather is very similar to Central Portugal). That is amazing to have a field of purslane!!!

Hi love ur real life down to earth videos...I have always wanted to live in spain or Portugal but by the time i have come around to do it BRIXIT happened so we have been stock n cant move out of the uk as yet dou to heath reason my husband is a long term diabetic n has heart problems thats why we wanted live somewhere out of the uk.. You can still travel and move to Portugal. It may not be as easy but it is still possible.
I suggest going onto the expats site for info on the niff (the link is in the description) you’ll get plenty advice and help there. Or just use a search engine and you will find lots if info on that.
